No, I did not wish to be bound. Even though Chris said I may know the guy, I didn't see the sense in meeting with him unless I was given proof that Ian had my snakes. Why waste anyone else's time?

Justin, I'm on your side here. I didn't--and still don't--want the KHS involved. I tried to handle this personal matter privately. There was no need for the KHS to be involved at all. Ian decided otherwise. He was the one that brought other members into this and expressed his desire for it to be dealt with at the KHS holiday party.

Ian has been threatening legal involvement from the day I demanded my snakes back. I've seen no evidence of a lawyer, even when I asked for his/her info. Lawyers are not law men, they are paid to represent their clients in the best light possible. I have access to amazing lawyers, but I have been trying to go about this like an adult. I don't feel a lawyer needs to speak for me or my situation, here. I think I am capable enough of standing my own ground and demanding a response from Ian.

Tonight Chris informed me that Ian wanted to talk and settle this and asked if I would please give Ian a call. (This was minutely frustrating, as Ian has my number, could unblock me on FB and tell me himself, or just as easily get my Email.). I tried calling him, no answer. I left a voicemail. Perhaps I'll hear from him tomorrow.

For your own protection if you do call him, agree to have the call recorded beforehand and actually record the agreement on phone. Or have a non-related person witness the discussion on speaker phone.

How typical to not answer a phone call. I would stop letting other folks be a go around and force him to deal directly with you. How childish is it that he cant pick up the phone and call you himself? Or Message you directly on facebook? He certainly has the time to post on the KHS page...

I would guess this has been the case from the start for them.

But Justin, he's not just a member, he's an officer. Which means that in fact it DOES reflect poorly on the KHS.

I mean, people on here that have NO affiliation with the KHS is saying the same thing!

If you REALLY believe that Ian has an attorney and this will all come out, then you surely have blinders on.

I truly believe Ian does NOT have an attorney. If he does, ask him the name of his attorney. I can't since someone has apparently made it so that I can't post/comment on the KHS Facebook page. He should readily supply the name of his attorney.

If this is a club/society you wish to keep as your favorite, then I would think that you would be all over Ian's butt to resolve this.




Ask yourself, why has Ian supposedly retained an attorney? Usually only the guilty "lawyer up" as they say.

This is the downfall of the KHS, I truly believe. And I think the membership should be duly informed of the actions of one of their officers. I'll be there at the January meeting to do this.

After reading all the posts, I agree with John. Ian is blowing smoke. He doesn't have an attorney, if he did, he would state who he/she is. This only makes the herp society look HORRIBLE.

Sarah, perhaps you could furnish your email address to Chris to send to Ian and consider telling him that you want to settle all this via email. That way, Ian would realize that some transparency is involved, and that any sort of settlement he might propose will be on record.

I find it highly disturbing that Ian has blatantly ignored any requests for pictures/proof that the snakes are even still in his possession. Considering snapping a few quick pictures would do nothing but help him in this situation, something is clearly not right. In my opinion, either the snakes are deceased or he has sold them. And if he has sold them, it is even more sickening to think that whoever has them is probably aware of all of this drama and has not stepped forward. I think more is being covered up here than we realize.

I'm sure his "attorney" wiil strongly advise against that.

I think that is a good way to work the issues out. And since you are creating a transparent method to forge your agreement, a first step to consider might be to insist on dated pictures of the snakes in question, because any sort of agreement is not worthwhile unless you know that the snakes are not dead or sold off.

I think that any arbitration might take away your freedom to decide and may not be in your best interests, especially in light of what we have seen posted here.

It seems to me Sarah as if you are fully capable on your own of deciding what you want out of an agreement, and that you are reasonable and only want what is yours in the first place, and that you are not going to allow yourself to be bullied out of what is yours by either persons or organizations, in public or in private.

I have to say that i am, at the very least, annoyed by KHS's seeming complacency on this matter. One would think they would have a code of conduct under which a board member being accused of something along these lines would be suspended until the issue was resolved. As a herp society, it is not their place to police their member's actions. It is, however, their responsibility to make sure that their board members represent the best in our hobby, not the worst. I have new and recent developments to report. As I mentioned previously, last Wednesday night I was contacted by Chris Barmore, who informed me that Ian wished to talk to me and could I please call him. He then listed his number.

(This was a bit irritating, as Ian has had my number for some time now, via texts I have sent him, and the message I sent him in November asking him to call me. He could also unblock me on FB and contact me himself that way. Lastly, my art business is no secret and it is easy to locate my email through my website.)

That same night I'd also been contacted by Greg Ammon, who stated his good intentions of offering to mediate this whole thing. He said that Ian had contacted him earlier that evening and seemed quite upset about things. My response to Greg's efforts was an offer of full cooperation should he be able to arrange for Ian and I to meet in a public place and talk this out. (Greg and I have been friends through the KHS for many years, he was some one I trusted to be involved in something like this.) When we ended our conversation, Greg was going to call Ian back and try to arrange something.

I still decided to call Ian like he wished. No answer. So, I left a voicemail.

The next morning I received a text message from Ian, explaining that he had been pepper sprayed, and that he would call me later than evening. I responded with what I'd be willing to discuss with him that evening, and later suggested that our future correspondence be done via Email so we do not get caught in this 'He-Said-She-Said' mess again. (As I explained to Chris, I had no recording device, and my phone's speakerphone options are frustratingly difficult to hear, so having some one listen in was going to be difficult.)

I did not hear from that night, or Friday night, or all day Saturday. Mt patience ran out. So I made my position clear.

First, I will list here the conversations I had with Chris on Weds and Thursday. What will then follow was the text messages I had with Ian, which as you can see pick up right after my last attempts in August to contact him. All the convenient FB and text time stamps are available to compare.
