In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Amanda & Mike Webb of The Pet Gecko

Yep, been doing business for over 15 years, some pissy little whore in kansas
That could not follow through on having the gecko seen in a reasonable time and had necropsy
Results that were negative and inconclusive isnt going to slow me down one bit.. so have fun wasting your time, stick the $60.00 up your ass since you want to be a cunt about things. I could give a shit less about the opinions of a bunch of people sitting on a forum with nothing better to do, I have healthy animals and have no problem selling them. Anybody is more than welcome to see them in person at
Any show we are attending.

YIKES, This was enough for me... no matter how the situation is this is uncalled for. I will have to say i will not be doing business with you and you will not be welcome at the Indiana Reptile Breeders Expo. This is exactly what we do not need in the reptile world.

Do roaches carry parasites?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I truly don't know if they can carry Crypto, but I know crickets can carry pinworms, and the necropsy showed a pinworm oocyte, which is what made me wonder. Googling finds:

http://www.pestworld.org/news-and-v...posts/the-truth-about-cockroaches-and-health/
"Cockroaches can also passively transport microbes on their body surfaces including pathogens that are potentially dangerous to humans. Cockroaches have been implicated in the spread 33 kinds of bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella species, six parasitic worms and more than seven other types of human pathogens.

E. coli and Salmonella are classic causes of food poisoning, or gastroenteritis. Common symptoms include belly pain, severe stomach cramps and tenderness, diarrhea which can sometimes be bloody, nausea and vomiting. Some people can experience severe diarrhea, which will cause dehydration and may require hospitalization. In rare cases, the bacteria can spread to the blood stream and cause life threatening infections."

But that doesn't address pet health when used as feeders, per se.

Anyone else know?

In any case, it doesn't excuse the behavior/language of the sellers here.

I was just curious. Sorry for going off-topic.

Janece Curtis, I'm far too exhausted at this point to go drag up the relevant info, but if no one more professionally experienced has chimed in by tomorrow when I'm able to post, I'll put up what I can.

My last order of red runner roaches from Aaron Pauling arrived somewhere around Thanksgiving last year. All but a couple of my geckos have been eating these roaches, some of them as a significant portion of their diet (the babies, especially) since then. None of those animals' results were positive.

wow really -- I know I will not buy from these people ever now

It is obvious that the little gecko purchased from Mike and Amanda Webb was sick. I am so very glad that Angela practiced meticulous quarantine protocol to protect her existing collection! Acid Fast Stain tests will only show positive for crypto when the parasites are in their reproductive state and oocysts are present, thus giving a large percentage of false negative results. The newest PCR tests are almost 100% accurate, so the chance of a false positive test is near impossible. Years ago, the only accurate diagnosis for crypto was from a full post-mortem of the intestines. In this case due to inclement weather conditions, a full post was delayed and therefore inconclusive. Surely no fault of anyone but Mother Nature.

As a breeder for over 18 years, I would WANT to know if I had something as devastating as Cryptoporidiosis in my gecko colonies, and Angela notified the 'breeder' of acquiring an infected gecko from them. The ethical and responsible response IMO would be to 1.) refund the cost of the gecko, 2.) pay for the PCR test, and 3.) pay for the cost of the necropsy since it was demanded. The next, and possibly the most important, thing would be to temporarily suspend ALL sales of animals for a minimum of 90 days to provide enough time to have the animals tested and see if any become symptomatic. I'm talking about a facility-wide shut down until this tragic situation can be brought under control it that's even possible.

NO ONE is immune to parasitic infections in their colonies. As hard as it may be to be presented with definitive evidence that there is an infection at large in one's colonies, and as defensive as it may make us, the priority should be given to the eradication of this devastating and highly contagious disease in the breeder's colony so that it does not become epidemic. It seems the 'breeder' is more concerned with their reputation than the health and well-being of their animals and customers. Sorry, but that's how I see this.

An additional side note... people need to 'bone-up' on parasitic infections in reptiles. A simple Google search will tell you that crypto is a host-specific parasite, and the strain that infects geckos is NOT transmitted by feeder insect, nor is it a zoonose. (You can Google that word, too.)

Thank you, Mean Old Gecko Lady :)

Perfectly summarized, both scientifically, re: crypto and ethically, re: breeder's/seller's unprofessional, text-book response.

Genuinely speaking, I had Amanda on my personal facebook, and my hobby facebook. I have since removed her and The Pet Gecko. The verbiage from Mike is uncalled for, and unprofessional. I am twenty-two years of age and I can never imagine myself being so insensitive and outright rude. Angela did what she had to out of pocket because she knew it was right. I agree that the Webbs should have paid for it out of respect for the animal, nevermind the expense. There have become too many hobbyists that do not respect the animals they work with.

A question I do have is that was the animal showing any signs of illness at the show? Were you already interested in the gecko before seeing it, via their FB or was this the first time you've seen the animal. I think it would be significantly worse if they brought a sick animal to the show.

I'm an admin of a review group on Facebook and (screenshot attached with profanity removed) Amanda seems to think everything presented is opinions and nothing from this transaction will truly affect them going forward. Have a hard time believing that...

Amanda and Mike, trust me, we do care. The gecko community is a tight group even with all its issues. How many of us have already unliked your page and unfriended you. You may be able to sell to small time people who don't know better, but you are already ruined by your behavior with most of the more well known breeders already. And this has just started. Had you done the right thing and kept a cool head, you would not be in this situation.

There is no arguing. The test was positive. Period. And even if it wasn't, that gecko was obviously sick. You should have refunded the tiny amount of money and sent tests in to Avian for your animals like many of us are doing as a precaution. Not all geckos with crypto will show symptoms, but this one did. It did not get it at the show and start showing symptoms 2-3 days later.
