Didn't see anything in a search result. So... I figured I should chime in a tad. I am not too sure where to start, what to say, why I'm doing this... Bla bla.

Oh yeah, it's for you! I forgot for a second, the reader, the shopper... The POTENTIAL VICTIM!

I have had the flu for two weeks, I thought nothing better than to drive out of the Valley and do some Trout fishing in Payson... We stopped at Carl's Jr. for lunch and I noticed the exotic animal shop across the street...

Upon entering, my fiancé let out an "ugh" sound... Luckily I still had sinus congestion, lol, so I didn't notice that part. What I did notice though... Was unfortunate, to say the least and not right for these animals.

I saw numerous animals in deplorable conditions, and the photo below is just a snapshot of the one that offended me the most. A species I hold in high regards here in Arizona... I actually tapped on the side of the cage and was shocked that it shivered with life left...

The rest is history: dry water dishes, delapidated animals, sunk in eyes, keeled scales, sheds left behind from lack of maintenance, stuck sheds, feces piled up, urates times 3 in each enviro, improper housing per species quals, algae buildup in some enviros that was scientific in proportions... Etc etc.

You can bother them with a link to this thread and try to educate... I am busy making other phone calls. Upwards of 30 animals needed direct attention immediately. I had to smh and run for the door! My day was shot, and I will be sick another 2 weeks I guess.

So that's it... Sorry to waste space and time, but here is some potential info for an Az Exotics 'shopper.' Ty.

That picture makes me sad, I hope you get the place shut down. You are terrific, even with the flu, you are making calls and putting the critters first.

First off YOU DID NOT WASTE TIME AND SPACE! I was a paycheck away from giving those guys a call! I can't even begin to comprehend what I just saw. I live in Loveland Colorado and when we go on trips to Grand Junction one of the first things I want to do is go to the Colorado ntl monument to take pictures of COLLARED LIZARDS! I am mostly a snake owner but I hold those beautiful lil lizards very high. They just have this beauty about them and seeing them out n about and getting pics it burns me up to see one of the most beautiful lizards in this region in such a hopeless sad state. And thank you for takin the time to try and get these animals the help they need and for bringing this to light I really hope that some innocent lives can be saved.
These guys rely on us and put their lives in our hands trust us to give them the life they deserve and meet their needs. I can't stand to see ppl throw them in whatever is open and try to get a buck before they die and don't care what the animal is going thru. It makes it so hard to buy OR sell to someone over the internet cuz there's these kinda sub human monsters out there and I only want the best for what I'm bringing to the world it would destroy me to find out one of my babies ended up in a dumpster that's advertised as a pet store! I hope those animals get the help they need and I'm VERY interested in hearing how this plays out. Thanks for posting this

I was gonna buy some black kings from them, i could drive there from Cottonwood AZ. i sent a message that i was interested in a pair & got no reply. What a shame, the proprietor should be jailed.

The second biggest offense I saw was... employees standing around the/a cash register that, wasn't ringing anything up, when animals were in dire need of care!

I really wish I could go back and have felt better... and just started telling people what to do and running the show till the cops showed up. Who's your buddy now!

Thank you Tom! It's good to know that there are people who will stand up when this stuff is noticed. My heart goes out to those animals. To everyone reading this if you ever walk into a situation like this please do what's right and make that phone call! It broke my heart to see one of the most beautiful lizards the way he was. I would love to be in a world where we don't need the humane society and rescues but I know better so until then if we can even get one animal out of a situation like this and they can live the good life that's something so please take action. Tom, you are a good man thank you again for standing up to something like this and thanks for letting us know what you ran into.

It breaks my heart to see animals treated this way.
Unfortunately there are a lot of small pet shops that operate at horribly substandard levels.
There are still a few small pet shops that are good but they seem to be slowly closing their doors. I worked at one of the best shops in the bay area when I was young. In the past 10+ years half of the good shops closed their doors due to retirement (along with several bad shops... some forced closed).
By reporting the bad shops and shutting them down, the good good shops will remain prosperous. My boss at the time would not hesitate to report any bad shops that customers told him about; he did not care about picking up their business, he did it because it was the right thing to do. He even went out to see for himself a couple times what the conditions were.

Reporting a bad shop is never a waste of space or time.

I'm so glad I don't see these shops anywheres near us. I'd be in jail for abusing them as they did the pets. This is why I think people suck as a race. Way more bad than good.

The boi is loaded with people who need a lesson or two. But it's unfortunate that people usually just turn their backs on things just like this. Or just write a complaint. I'm for sure getting real tired of lame people. Blind eyes and deaf ears. What a world we now live in.

How many of you actually do things for your neighbors?? Not many I'm sure. Don't everyone write and say they do. I know the real deal. Most people are for themselves.

What a shame. You should have kicked some butt . Flipped out or something to let them know just how awful it was. Yolk up one of those lazy creeps by the neck collar. It's only a misdemeanor and would be a fine at the end.

I hope that hole gets closed and someone tries to help those poor critters.

I got a message from a friend who has a friend, that is an acquaintance of theirs... Said that they had gotten word and cleaned up the shop. I'm waiting on pics for proof.

There is slim to no chance of saving this Collard, but we will see, I will update here in the end. My calls are in, and they will do DAMAGE! I know this! And, I personally will go back in that shop within the month. That's a promise from me that can be Banked with...

I'll probably just bring the Cops with me... I have a tendency to get real sideways in situations like this when I'm running at full capacity.

I hear ya Tom. All the time I feel like I am losing my faith in any good being left in the world. Then although few and far between someone like you comes thru and I applaud your efforts! If all that matters to a person is money then live animals aren't for those kinds of people. I understand that those of us that are breeding money is definitely a part of it but its not number one. Or shouldn't be. Every egg I hatch is a life brought into this world and should be treated as such! I don't care if someone offers me a million if I sense that my baby gunna be mistreated NO DEAL! It hurts so bad to see that ppl can abuse and neglect their animals that way and why more ppl just don't care enough to help out! I really want to know what happens from here Tom and thank you for being YOU man! This world is a better place with ppl like you in it.
