In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy David Huffman of Virginia(BAD TRADE)

That's your opinion Chris. You not doing buisness with me is your own personal choice. There will be enough people out there that will do buisness with me. Thank you.

Actually, this is why the BOI is here. To inform people of who to work with and not to work with. Seriously, if someone "intentionally" ripped me, then tried to make good on it later....even if I accepted the apology I would never do business with him/her again. Reason being? Whats that saying...it takes a lifetime to build trust and only seconds to destroy it? That should hit home.

Hopefully you seriously learned your lesson and you never do this to anyone again. Regardless, I bet that "my opinion" is also shared by the many others who have read this. Thank you BOI.

Yep. But fact is I still will get others who understand people make mistakes and learn from them and change. Your not doing buisness with me is your choice. And that's fine. Speak for yourself.

I did speak for myself, thanks. I do doubt you'll get others who understand what went down here and STILL buy from you. More likely that you get people who have no idea. I'm just stating what is what here, no need to candy coat it.

I just very much doubt anyone who has read this thread in full would buy from you just because you apologized. If they do, then you must have some pretty rare or sought after animals.

Actually, this is why the BOI is here. To inform people of who to work with and not to work with.

The BOI is here to provide information so that each reader can make his or her own decision about whether to proceed with a transaction.

I personally don't think an apology and saying "I promise" will cut it.

Maybe not. People spend hard earned money on their critters and they have every right to make their own choices, and past performance is often a good indicator of future behavior. Given the track record of this person, people have every right to make decisions that reflect their judgment of his poor record.
(And that is why it is valuable to link threads when a good guy thread pops up for someone who has racked up a bunch of bad guy threads. People should make their choices after reading all the pertinent information.)

But if someone is determined to make a change for the better, they can announce their intentions and allow others to judge based on what transpires.
If someone comes across this thread in a few years and there are a bunch of subsequent good guy posts and no more bad guy posts, they may make their decision based on that information.

If there is another bad guy post, they might very well (and rationally) make another.

First, I do not know David or have any past dealings. Second, I told myself that I wasn't going to post any more in a bad guy Boi if it didn't pertain to me.
That being said, one of his first ads he posted I tagged it with this thread. He explained to me, how he had changed. People can change, he is willing enough to ship before payment. I think that says a good deal on his part. Has he made retribution for his mistakes, I don't know. Has anyone ever bought true forgiveness or trust? No, it has to be earned. Would I ever deal with him, possibly.

David, I hope in the end you have learned a lesson. It sounds like you have, human nature is to keep antagonizing you until you break down. If you truly have changed, keep doing what you're doing. It is not going to be easy as I have told you before. Maybe one day.

Best wishes
Jason

Thank you so much Jason. As I have said, alls I can do is keep being open and honest. I understand there will be people out there who will continue to judge me based on my past. And I understand and accept that. And there will be others who will antagonize me . And that is there choice as well. Through continued smooth and happy dealings , people will see that I can be trusted.

I'm sure that there are a number of people that won't support your efforts due to your past; but there are always people that don't care as long as the price/deal is right. There isn't much risk to anybody as long as you're shipping before payment...but how long are you willing to do that?

Eventually he will be on the opposite end of a bad deal in doing that....

I'll do it for as long as it takes. I have made a friend and had a great transaction here already so far. I'm sure there definetly will be others who see and support my efforts. They realize people make mistakes and go through issues and hard times in there life. I'm to blame for my past. I accept that. But I also know that its up to me to do right and better myself in this reptile commu city and in life in general. And I'm doing that. That something I can be proud of. I went through a lot, made mistakes. But now I'm a better person. How I should be.

I would keep that up for orders under $250, since it would not be a crippling loss if you get burned. Anything over $300 though, in my opinion, is too risky.

I've been breeding and selling reptiles since 1990. Over the last 24 years I've seen a heck of a lot of crooks in this industry, both buyers and sellers. Sure, you screwed up. But, now you're going to trust the entire reptile community and ship animals without payment up front to build trust in people?

You will get burned doing this, a lot...

It's better to just practice a high standard of business. Have a complete set of ground rules that you don't break. Use Paypal or credit cards only for example. This protects the buyer and the seller. If someone tries to rip you off, Paypal goes to bat for you. Same with your bank. Contact your banker and tell them what you're doing. Let them know you will be using a card to purchase animals and ask what your protections are against someone who tries to rip you off after you send payment.

There's been animals I absolutely wanted and had the money for. After contacting the seller though, I knew better than to give them my money. There was a juvie Croc monitor that was gorgeous that Bay Area reptiles was selling last winter. I paid for it and was waiting on shipping. I wanted it to come Delta Dash because it was cold. It would be in transit only 5 hours. I asked for a live arrival and guarantee on health. He said NO, because it's winter. I said, "Ok, as long as the shipment is not delayed the animal will only be in transit 4 or 5 hours tops before it's home with me....and you won't guarantee the health of the animal?" Again, he said NO....and argued. Then he told me that it's as perfect an animal as he's ever seen. Despite that, he couldn't guarantee the animal for even 5 hours. I didn't want a week long guarantee or even a DAY. I just wanted it to arrive healthy and alive and he wouldn't do it.

Needless to say, I forced a refund. He said NO to the refund, so I told him I'd do a charge back with my bank in the morning and there was no need to argue it further. I received the refund after much to-do. He kept saying he was going to report me to the right department...etc. I asked him for that departments info and he ignored the request.

These are things people deal with on a daily basis here in the exotic community. It's up to people to make the wise choice and above all, just be honest.

This is why I don't think it's a good idea for you to just send animals out up front before payment. Even though you want to try and rebuild a reputation for yourself, there are so many people out there who want something for free or willing to swindle someone if it gives them the larger portion of the pie.

I thank u so much for your advice Chris. It means a lot. I just want to build trust and maybe e an some friends along the way. But I know this will take time. And I'm fine with that.

Perhaps I should have emphasized doing such for awhile, doing it permanently is bound to be trouble, but building trust over the next say 5-6 sales I would be willing to take the risk.

PayPal's protections aren't all you seem to think they are, Chris.
Right now, David is doing what he has to do to get sales; as it is unlikely that many people would take the risk of just sending him money. With time, that will likely change.
