In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Petco Rescue: Could Not Say No To This Little One.

If you're on FB there's a post now about a BP at the Bravo Ft Wayne, IN Petco in similar shape - dehydrated, thin, stuck shed, RI, and mouth rot. OP didn't buy it, but Petco corporate will have a lot of emails from PO'ed people from around the country tomorrow morning.

I understand the sentiment of wanting to get an animal out of a bad situation like that, but the seller shouldn't be rewarded. Either get the store nailed for neglect by the authorities, or raise such a stink right there in front of the customers that they just give you the poor thing to make you shut up and go away.

Ha! Iv raised a stink in petsmart before until they just gave me a veiled chameleon. It was dehydrated and all they had for it was leaf decorations, a shallow water bowl, and a bowl full of those dried mealworms in the bottom of the cage :/ I was pissed because literally 30 seconds on google will tell you a chameleon will never touch either of those. No idea what they were thinking. Its eyes were all sunken and it was soooo thin. I think they knew it was on the brink of death so felt no loss in giving it to me.

It didn't live that long after I got it. Never could get it to eat well. At least petsmart didn't get my damn money!!!

Its funny how much they vary in quality though. The petco across town has a wonderful reptile section as far as the care goes. The selection isn't great but nothing is ever sick or mis-fed. Their fish section is WONDERFUL which says a lot... fish get shittons of diseases easily.

I feel any animal taken out of a pet store is a rescue, especially reptiles. Whether you pay for it or its given to you. All you can do is try to educate people a lil more & hope it benefits the animals. Good luck with your new pet.

What you feel doesn't change fact. There are plenty of reputable exotic animal stores and private breeders selling healthy critters. These sellers that deserve you patronage. By paying full retail price for a sick, mite-infested animal because you feel sorry for it, whether the seller is a big box store or a private shop, you encourage the seller to continue with improper husbandry practices. The seller has no reason to change unless and until failing to improve causes reduced revenue.

Am I the only one who's not seeing an animal that looks particularly dehydrated or remotely mite-infested? I guess the mites are camera shy, so they're hiding out in the dark areas so they can blend in? I have to assume that this was simply an impulse buy - a deal that was too good to pass up - that'll be unceremoniously flipped at some indeterminate later date. I'll also take her catnip comment as an oblique reference to already having flipped out her last cat. :yesnod:

My comment was in response to the "any animal purchased from a pet store is a rescue" statement.

As for the OP - mites may show up on camera, or not. A cell phone pic may not capture them unless the snake is an albino or BEL, but a pro using decent equipment could get them to show up. The pics also don't show the most common areas for mites to hide, such as the bottom of the eyes, the heat pits, under the chin, or the vent.

he quite literally just ignored my concern

Are you sure he heard and understood what you were saying?
The Petco in my area is well run and immaculate. The reptiles are well kept. The staff is terrific. Not all of them can answer any question but I have never been ignored, and if they don't know something they go find out.

I feel that if you make up your own meanings for words (i.e. 'rescue') you can say just about anything, and if others disagree simply insert your newly minted definition.

No, you are not, Dan. Look at those two pics she posted ... first one looks like the snake is right out of the Petco box and then the second one on a towel. I already posted that snake looks pretty healthy for a "rescue", lol.

See how dehydrated, thin, sickly and mite-infested that snake looks? Those pics are nice and close and not blurry.

OP got a nice healthy normal BP at a good price. Enjoy it and treat it well.
