In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have seen by a previous thread what throwing IBD around can cause. I think it's the devastation it causes that it's always a present paranoia whether it's there or not. Every time I see those letters I get very nervous even though it's rare. Which is why I said diseases, not sure who the first was to say IBD but it's like the worst disease any of us ever want to deal with..

I believe the OP mentioned IBD. But she is the one who observed the behavior and she just mentioned it as one of many possibilities. Nonetheless, I would think it prudent for an autopsy and test. And seller should pay for it. Autopsy may just determine it starved to death. That little boa was dead on arrival, but it just did not know it yet!

Elexis,
Truer words were never spoken! I agree 100%.....

I Kept, raised and bred boa's for 26 years, until 2003 when I decided to sell out.

Make a long story short, I sold several high end boa's in 2004 to a client I had known for a while, and trusted. I trusted him for $2200, on a much larger amount already paid. When I called him out for the balance a few months later, he started telling folks I sold boas with the DREADED Words no one in the Boa community wants to hear, IBD.

Of course he was trying to get out of paying me with those tactics, needless to say I never had boas with IBD, there are breeders today still breeding my bloodlines.

So I see, those dreaded words still strike fear in boa breeders today! Those in the know, know IBD is extremely rare!

I'm not saying in any way shape or form that the OP is doing that, I'm sure she's extremely concerned, and has every right to be, but again IBD, unless results are confirmed, should NEVER be used........

Just my opinion.......

Mikasa, I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss! Best of luck to you!

Oh noo nooo! I wasn't trying to do that, it's just always a concern in the back of my mind, and the corkscrewing brought up that fear! The test must definitely be done before saying anything definitive!

Ouchie, called the closest place that does necropsies and it's $100. I can do it but that's a serious ouch.

Perhaps the seller will agree to pay for the test. I would think he would like to clear his name, even though it is much, much more likely he just sent you a nearly starved boa, as opposed to an IBD infected boa. Likely that poor snake simply starved to death. It was knocking on death's door when you received it. Nice guy to do business with!

Yeah, I've been calling vet clinics and they all say they go through the University of KY Veterinary Diagnostic Lab and that they don't know of any other labs that do necropsies on animals.

University of Florida does a blood test to check for IBD. Your vet can submit a sample and should probably contact them in advance to find out what is needed. There will be another fee for the test, I think $130, plus the shipping cost to send the blood sample.

Trust me I know how that feels, I know I don't even have it lurking (the ball and other pythons would be dead by now since all my animals are in the same area and all went through quarantine. And yes I do handle one after the other etc) but just seeing those letters has me like "what IF" all the time. We all know it's extremely rare but it DOES happen. And those people who don't quarantine, mix animals without quarantine, and have no problem selling sick animals are the ones who spread it to unsuspecting keepers such as us. I HOPE it's not IBD because then anyone who has bought from him is going to have to lock down till its figured out when he got it, if they could potentially be infected, etc. And NO ONE should have to go through that.

From what I've seen that's actually pretty cheap, it may go up the more tests you have run. But I think the ibd test should be done so it can be ruled out if it really didn't kill the boa since that flood door has been opened.

Question, on the off chance it is, what is the protocol for everyone else? How is it verified WHEN it was introduced in his collection? I ask because UKY keeps the specimen. If I need to it back or need further testing of that specific specimen, it would be good to know.

Ok, I see where you can unsubscribe. Just sent him a text just in case. If he tries to call, I'll let him know that I want this all via text just for record's sake. (Though I do prefer text over talking, honestly.)

To summarize, this tool rewards you for sending your hard earned money by sending you a boa that was on death's door, packaging was substandard, and you had to witness it as it corkscrewed and died. Thank god you followed quarantine protocol. Selling snakes is a tough market. It takes one terrible transaction to wipe out a reputation forever. Amazing that someone early in this thread actually defended this guy.
If this boa breeder has any hope of salvaging any sort of business selling snakes, he needs to refund your money and cut you a check for the cost of the autopsy. But the results of the autopsy are likely already known. Death by starvation.
