In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Beth Butterworth (Scammer/bad for business) !!

Robert Lee, quit your tantrum.
She spent two hours packing the thing, got it to the UPS place, was overwhelmed by the cost, refunded your money.

Don't be calling people names.

I did not repost the rack because I haven't had time. I got to ups later than expected because I had a Drs appt after work because it is my ONLY afternoon off and it was important. I spent a lot of care and time packaging and took longer than expected. I am only human and tried to make it right, but didn't even get the chance.

Robert I feel your frustration. But this should not be a bad guy/scammer thread. A scammer is someone that goes out if there way to rip you off and it's more than obvious that Beth did not go out of her way to scam you. You did recieve a full refund and I believe you recieved it before this thread was created. I'm a firm believer when you make a deal it should be set in stone the moment you send money BUT this is a unique case in my opinion. And if I were in your position I would be extremely forgiving of Beth. She made a mistake calculating shipping. Nobody is perfect. I'm a firm believer in showing forgiveness so when it's my turn I hope someone would show me forgiveness if I were ever to make a mistake.
I know you had your heart set on this deal but there's plenty more deals where that one came from. I think you should let up on her and move forward. She make a mistake. She is not a bad person.

And to give you all an idea of how large the boxes were, this is them in front of my 6 ft long reef tank and as you can imagine, weren't cheap to ship. image.jpg

Mistakes happen, have you never made a mistake robert? Not everyone selling on fauna is a seasoned professional and had years of experience shipping. Beth did make the mistake of assuming it wouldn't cost as much for shipping as it actually did but I honestly dont believe there was any malicious intentions on beths part. When you make a mistake in the future won't you want them to be at least a little forgiving?

I see no attempt to scam here. In fact, if the OP had been patient and given the seller time to explore other shipping options he would probably have received the racks. We've shipped oversize packages before and most go FedEx Freight. Taking them to the UPS Store means you get killed on shipping.

For the seller: shipping costs are why most ads for racks and enclosures are local pick-up for a reason.

Thank you all for being understanding. I have definitely learned a huge lesson here and if I ever decide to sell it will be local.

In researching rates from FedEx (and everybody knows FedEx is more expensive then UPS) these are the rates that I was given by one of their representatives from Virginia to California:
1st box (the unit itself)
a 60 lb box at 36"x 36" x 12" sent FedEx Ground would be scheduled to arrive in (4) business days to a residence, signature required
Along with
A second box (tubes included)
I am guessing 10 lbs box at 36" x 36" x 12" sent FedEx Ground, signature required was quoted to me by FedEx to be $135.00. Beth was told I would like to receive the unit hopefully within two weeks time. Overnight or second day shipping was not requested. I made that very clear. As long as I had the unit in no longer than two weeks time that was fine with me. And remember these are FedEx rates so how she came up with $300.00 for shipping is beyond me.
Robert

I did not come up with it, UPS did and you didn't even give me the chance to check with any other shipment companies. You already had it in your mind that I was screwing you over and lying. They administrators have made their decision so I don't see any reason in continuing this thread. I am young and not experienced with shipping such large items. You gave me no chance to make things right and I would rather keep the thing and use it for storage than ever risk going through this again.

I'm sure she could get a written quote and post it. UPS store rates are sometimes very high depending on how it was to be shipped and by whom and to where. Shipping rates vary widely.

I am not a bad person and I was in tears after getting off the phone with you. My fiancé was standing by wanting so badly to "go off" on you and I did not let him because I don't like to do that to people. I would have worked with you and I thought the memo explained that, but after the way you spoke to me, that was just not an option.

If you look at her ad that I re-posted on here for your review, you will see that I aimed high on the size and weight of both boxes to be shipped.

Used V70-5 vision rack for sale

In very good condition. Comes with heating cable and plastic tubs. Does not come with thermostat. 34" X 17" X 6" tubs. Rack is 36" tall. $235 shipped

Also why did she refund my money without consulting me on whether or not I was willing to work with her on any extra costs to be incurred? One more thing, the fact the unit is pictured packaged up, proves nothing! It could of been packaged up to ship to anybody. Also the fact she's claiming to keep the unit now, especially if she feels she is in the right, sounds bogus to me.

I don't see any signs of wrongdoing here, either. UPS is notorious for high shipping prices (I prefer either good ole' USPS or FedEX personally rather than having to consider whether or not it's worth selling an arm and a leg to cover shipping).

She refunded your money because she didn't want you to think she was a scammer. Which she is NOT. Going by your estimate on the sizes and weights of the boxes the quote I got from ups was $350 so her $300 quote is completely believeable. Not to be rude but you honestly sound like my 12 year old when she doesn't get what she wants when she wants it. Had you been rational and just talked with Beth I'm positive something could have been worked out. Like I said she sent the money back to let you know she wasn't trying to scam you, and you freaked out for no reason at all. You should have simply talked to her like a rational adult and worked together with her to find a solution. I've bought things a few times and due to an error on the website they weren't in stock and the seller refunded my money right away and messaged me explaining what had happened and told me if I still wanted it when they had it in stock I could send the payment again but they didn't want to keep my money in case I didn't want to wait.

Holey moley, Bobby Leigh. You got your money back. Why in the world is this even an issue? Go to the Vision website and find another rack. Life is too short to complain about something this easy to fix.

If you had a doctors appointment, and you knew Thursday would not be an option for shipping, then why did you promise to ship the unit on Thursday? Also, why didn't you call me before refunding my money back to see whether or not I would have been interested in working with you on any extra costs? Once again, the rates given me from FedEx contradict your story. Nothing you have said concerning this situation holds water. I stand by my convictions. Call it what you want, feel sorry for her if you want, but this lady was not honest about any of this.
Robert

I do not feel sorry for her in the least. But you certainly seem to be very unforgiving. Why did you accuse her of scamming? You got your money back, right?

She quotes rates from UPS, you quote rates from Fedex, and because they are different you accuse her of dishonesty?
At this point, YOU are the party I would not do business with.
