    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Long story short: I was contacted about a snake I no longer had, (auto relist) I offered another one. He bought it "knowing" it was a different snake and then 4 days later he has a change of heart and demands a full refund. Normally that wouldn't be a problem except shipping was already paid and I placed a rather large rodent order leaving me short on funds.

This is everything that was said and in the order it was said:

Chris Maynard: Can You do $400 Shipped for him?

ME: Yes I can! want me to send you an invoice? at this time I didn't know I had another ad still up (auto relist)

Chris Maynard: i would also like to get the female het Albino listed for $80 would you Do $450 for both?

ME: I can do this pair for 460 shipped
Ghost male 100% het moonglow
Hypo Female 100% het Albino 66% het moon

Chris Maynard: The female in the pic is fine but I want the Nice Male in the ad I responded to Listed for $500 Can you do the $450 for Both ? If not I will take the Male for $400 you can see he noticed its a different male

You are making this all sound like I sold you one and switched it to another one that did not happen. If you have the room I will add an extra boa to your box,
But you have changed your mind after the sale. I'm sorry but I don't even have the funds to return.

While it isn't necessarily germane to the discussion, how did he get from your lowest offer of $460 shipped, to still doing both for $425? Is there something missing, or was he just still angling for a better price and hoping you wouldn't notice?

Your customer does sound upset. But so far you have told us that the problem started with the ad you were unable to control, and that normally, a customer's change of heart with you then refunding would not be a problem for you, except that you had spent his money. How does this make him a bad guy?

I'm not sure how prepaid labels work, as far as refunds. Can you not get a refund for an unused label?
 
What makes him a bad guy, in my opinion, is the extremely unprofessional way he spoke to the OP when told he would have to wait for the refund. Frankly, if anyone spoke to me that way id also place a BOI to warn others that they coud be spoken to the same way. I will not do any business with anyone that speaks this way to another human being.
 
Kevin, You spent his money even before shipping. If ANYTHING happens after that in the deal then you are unable to refund him immediately. That makes your actions questionable.
 
Buyer obviously came over with a not unrare case of "buyers remorse" and while very annoying does not really warrant a bad guy label especially considering the confusion surrounding the ads and actual snakes being sold.
Yes his attitude sucks for sure and is unprofessional and warns me to never do business with him but still not really bad guy BOI material.
I still find it very disturbing that sellers somehow spend the buyers money BEFORE the animal is even shipped, received and verified there is no issue.
What if animal had been lost or died in transit? You would( should do) have had to refund then until resolved with the shipper.
I know you claim to not have the funds but really? You do not have his $425 to refund and make everybody happy?
I have found in instances like this of an animal being sold different to the original listed that buyer first inquired about it is best to post a fresh for sale ad and direct the buyer to that new ad so EVERYBODY is completely clear as to what they are receiving.
Refund the $425 and call it lesson learned
 
Where are your ads, that you are unable to cancel automatic relistings?
 
Also I wonder if you would have even posted this BOI if the buyer had not threatened to post a BOI about you?
A real shame this could not just have been settled like two adults without resorting to the subsequent bickering I am sure we will now see here.
One thing I know for sure already, I will not be rushing out to do business with either of you.
 
I think the OP did the right thing in posting his side of the story on the BOI before the upset buyer posted his side. Always better to get in front of things and not be bullied by threats of a BOI.
 
The seller's Custom User Title is 'satisfaction guaranteed'. I'm not sure that rushing to call your buyer a bad guy when there are issues with a sale fits that description.
Perhaps a continued lower key approach might have worked better.
I have notified the buyer via email, I would like to hear his side.

I see a whole bunch of missed opportunities.

1.) Mr. DeBusk should have made it 100% clear that the original ad was no longer for sale. He did not do this.

2.) Mr. Maynard should have made it 100% clear what female he wanted. All I see is him agreeing to the female as being "fine".

3.) Mr. DeBusk seems more focused on the price and not on the animal.

5.) Both Mr. DeBusk and Mr. Maynard seem to be pointing at different pictures claiming what they have for sale and what they want for the male. Mr. Maynard clearly gives in.

6.) Then we seem to have Mr. Maynard coming to his senses. He clearly has buyers remorse.

7.) But not to be out done, Mr. DeBusk does something really good, he takes money he does not have and spends it on rats. I get you needed the rats, but honestly, you screw up. Best business practice says, you should not spend anything until you actually get past any return date. Your TOS state when you can release that money to be spent.

8.) So Mr. Maynard has buyers remorse, he demands a refund, rudely, gets it, but it will take up to 2 weeks to process. Yes, that is Mr. DeBusk fault, but honestly, it happens. Mr. Maynard could have sucked it up, could have took the high road and actually been the good guy here. But no, Mr. Maynard snatches defeat out of the jaws of victory and threatens fauna and calling the bank.

9.) Mr. DeBusk, really not having a choice in it, post a bad guy report. You can not let a person bully you.


So, you want my honest opinion? You both screwed up. I mean, really screwed up. Any given event in this could have been a bad guy report. But each time you tried to one up the other person. It is not to late to fix this. But honestly, I see to good people behaving badly.


The fix...

Mr. DeBusk, please refund Mr. Maynards money when you are able. Please post serial numbers with all your post (you may do this already). Make sure that you get confirmation about the serial number from the buyer before you take there money. Honestly. It just makes negotiation easier when you know which specific animal you are taking about. He said moonglow, you said, I don't have that one, I have this one. It would have been easier for both sides if you said I do not have xf323 but I do have xf321.

Mr. Maynard. Please refrain for going nuclear when you don't get your way. Yes, you agreed to the wrong snake. You did not notice until it was too late. I got that. But honestly, you could have fixed this problem by just letting Mr. DeBusk take a little while. He even offered to given you a snake for free.


Both sides completely screwed this one up. I don't think either side is a bad person just made bad choices.

Each side can fix this. Each side can prevent this in the future. The truly bad person will not learn from what has just happened.
 
Never ever spend the money before you have even shipped the snake out! That money is not yours to spend until the customer has received the animal they paid for. Yeah, the buyer comes off as kind of slow-witted since he has so much trouble understanding which snake he is paying for, but it's your job as the seller to make sure there is no question of what animal he is getting, and NOT to spend his money until he has what he expects to get.
 
Transferring the money would have been a shrewd move, but spending it was not.

If you needed to make a supply order, then it was going to need to be made with or without his money being used to finance it.

Focus on or emphasize that he absolutely will get his refund (I recommend in full and trying to handle the label situation on your own) and the timing of it. Try to figure out a way to refund him before the 3rd. That is weeks away. Try to work with him. Then wash your hands of him as he will of you.

Kevin is Full of Lies and Deception. It was not four days till I asked for My money back it was thhe next day after I found out he deceived me about the snake I was getting.

The emails requested would be a good contribution if they differ from the chain provided, so might as well add those here.

I requested 'real' emails not copy-n-paste because they would be dated, there seems to be conflicting answers on when the refund was requested.
But yes if there are more missing emails or they differ from the original please post (edited for profanity as requested).
