Some buyers do not know how to sex animals and it could be dangerous to the animal if they try. If a seller is going to sell animals as sexed animals, they need to ensure they sexed them properly.

We are sorry for the late response to the BOI. This is the first time we have had an issue like this and there are many issues that we went over that caused us to end with the $100 offer. The main issue is that our guarantee does not extend up to 9 months (as most sellers would not).

You should not sell sexed animals if you are not going to stand behind them. With out conditions in your terms of service, this turns into mess.

Mr. Calhoun is still making a fuss because we did not yet send him $100. No body has access to the PayPal account except for the owner who has not been in the offer since he sent out the email to Mr. Calhoun. We are more than willing to send the $100.

How about the owner actually come here and talk to Mr. Calhoun?


This seems to be a little problem that could be handled between two people. Except the person that gets to say yes or no is hiding in the backroom pretending to not be in the office.

I am a little short tempered right now, but honestly. This "ok, but we have to run it trough the boss, used car dealership ideology is making your company look very suspicious."

Three ends to this problem.

1.) Refund the full amount + shipping label, Mr. Calhoun returns all of them.
2.) Refund the 150 + shipping label, Mr. Calhoun returns just the male.
3.) Refund the 100, Mr. Calhoun keeps the male to to teach it how to play poker. (Or sell it, either way, options are good)

Male #1

This male has an incomplete back just behind the head that makes a very unique box shape. Unfortunately the pre shipping pictures taken by them show it but not as clearly. The pictures being held are theirs. The top down is from me yesterday.

This male has a very clear clean middle stripe on the head with no other markings. Their pictures are the ones on paper towels. Again mine is the more obvious top down picture.

There is a show in Cincinnati with many well reputed breeders. Alternatively I can provide pictures or video. It is very easily proven.

Since the seller has now gone on record that it was a pair, I agree with the OP - get a 3rd party to verify the sexing, or video the procedure.

Seller - I hear the points you are making, and in fact I understand your hesitation (as I mentioned in my initial post). On the other hand, you do not seem to have a novice buyer here. I think you need to consider that he knows as much as you do and might be correct about this. Would you agree to have the sex verified, and what is your solution if/when the "female" proves out a male?

This situation isn't the same as a sick snake, where time does matter. I've known sellers to make good on mis-sexed snakes a year or more later, either by refunding the money, providing a female of the same year and size, or some other mutually agreed upon resolution.

When I've mis-sexed a snake, I offered to replace the snake with the correct sex.

Actually, seeing as how both are males, I would expect the seller to refund the price of a female, $200 (stated by them) and provide a shipping label.

I understand that but the fact that he waited 9 months to verify then when he did tell them it seems like he barely gave them a chance before getting upset. I agree that if he didn't get what he paid for they should make it right but to get impatient when you didn't bother to check that you received what you bought for 9 months can throw up a red flag to a seller

Looking at the pictures I do not see a bait and switch I see the same 2 animals in Justin possession that he was provided pictures of while in the sellers possession. If proof is provided as to the sex of both animals being male, personally I would be bending over backwards to make things right with Justin had I been the seller.

If I were to buy a het albino hognose female hatchling, it may take two-three years to prove her out. If she doesn't prove out I would expect the seller to make good on the deal 2-3 years down the road.

Unfortunately, I took someone's word on sexing before and it was wrong. Hognose snakes for the most part, are visual sexable. Several months later when I popped a female (because she wasn't looking female), it was indeed a male. I only bought two and one was free, so I didn't go back to the seller. Had it been a sexed pair, I would've expected the seller to fix it.

Honest mistakes happen, our character truly shows through the way we react to our mistakes.

I have known Grady and Justin for years and both are exceptionally knowledgeable about their animals. I have an extremely hard time believing that they mis-sexed these animals as I have seen them do it correctly a good number of times. Although waiting the 9 months to verify was in my opinion a mistake (one which they appear to be in agreement with via this thread), it doesn't matter. The animals were sold with the wrong genders and therefore should be either refunded or replaced.

As stated before time doesn't change the sex of the animal in question.

I'm not understanding some of this. When did it become common to expect to be reimbursed for shipping, or expected to pay the shipping charge back? He paid 350 for them. Not 400. We accept shipping as a cost that we have to eat. Now with returning an animal, we've seen it here before. Buyer refuses to pay shipping on something they're not satisfied with and the problem sits unresolved. When buying animals, again we eat shipping as a known expense. And when we have an issue, in most cases, we pay shipping for the return. I know for a fact if you bought them at lll or ug or whoever, you'd be paying shipping for the return.
I agree with what's been stated before. A third party with no affiliation should sex them. This should be recorded. It will provide undeniable truths.
Now to the 9 months. If I were breeding and selling animals and happened to sex an animal improperly and you contacted me 9 months later, odds are I do not have any animals of the same age as yours left. As it is, they're a retail store. Odds are they're not breeding these. Why did you choose to wait so long? What made you think to do it now? Irrevalant to the problem, but with living things, so much can change in 9 months. Last thought, if you were to have sexed it improperly, however unlikely, what if the animals gets back to them and proceeds to die due to internal injury? Do you refund the refund? Or is that now their problem?
Get them sexed by a third party. Proceeded from there.

It is one thing to buy an animal and decide that it didn't really work me, I would not expect the seller to pay shipping for me to return it. However if I sold you an eastern indigo snake and when you received it, it was a common black racer with an attitude of Satan, who pays return shipping??

Here are the vent pictures with heads in the image to show its the same animal. You can see how wide the tail base is just caudal to the vent and how it continues for an extended length as is commonly seen in males. Females have a narrower tail and quicker taper.
