In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Gastro 3003 (PLEASE BUYERS BEWARE) !!!

Adam, you may risk Paypal thinking this is a partial payment which they don't cover if you say something about the amount. My feeling is that you are possibly being set up.
If this person was going to pay tuition in another day, wait, he should have the $ tomorrow unless he was fibbing. He can still send the balance. Paypal is not the only way to pay.
If he wants to play games, just wait for Paypal to work through it. Don't be pushed or bullied into doing something that might block your refund (like his multiple entreaties that you drop the claim).

Their is no" set up"

HE told them I owe him 927 instead of the real amount

I have said my piece

He is no victim

Good night all

The way that's worded it sounds like the first person to send the money to my PayPal get the animal. You may want to be more careful in the future about how you word things in your ads. I can see where he thought that sending the funds right away was what you wanted hI'm to do. Imo it's really not fair to put all the blame on him. Should he have contacted you first? Probably, but that doesn't take away from the fact that you worded your ad in such a way that it sounded like anyone who wanted the animal should immediately send the funds to insure they are the first to pay other wise they lose out. Have you called paypal and verified that he is claiming you owe the whole amount? Have you submitted proof to PayPal of the partial refund? The screen shot you posted doesn't show any details just what the original transaction amount was. I've disputed transactions and asked for partial refunds before and it didn't show up in that view but when I clicked on the transaction to see the details it showed I was only seeking a small portion of the original amount.

Since you ignored me the first time I'll post it again. Read the part in bold. Click on the transaction and take a screen shot of the dispute notes, I'd like to see what they say.

I disagree, Lucille.
I believe this was an honest miscommunication.

Let me say this, to help clear some of the tuition and funding confusion.

I have my car insurance set to automatically pay from my paypal.
Let's say it comes out on the 15th, but I don't have the funds in my PP to cover it, it then draws from my bank account. However, I don't get paid till the 17th … I won't bounce the payment because it takes 2 days for the payment to hit my bank account, so buy the time PP sends the request to my bank, my paycheck has been deposited.

When issuing refunds, I believe the amount needs to be in your PayPal account. It takes a minimum of 2 days for a transfer to hit your PP account.

-----
As a buyer (Adam), I would not stop the claim; but y'all have to stop telling the seller (Bob) to hit refund. If he does so as it stands, Adam will have $927 & $500 … how is that fair? If I was Bob, I would not do that.
All that can be done at this point is to wait for PP to resolve the claim.

If I refund now he will get an extra 500!!!!

All he had to do was wait a day or so for the balance

Again
As with everything in my life as a physician for 20 years I learned a lot from this experience. And believe it or not I do appreciate everybody everyone's input!

Refund
Clearly stated

Actually I would have to disagree with your statement of " their is the refund"

You sent Adam a payment of 475 and it was not even with "real" money!
It clearly states the funding method was paypal smartconnect which is their credit line!
So basically you blew the WHOLE 927 somewhere!!

That's exactly correct. As I have said the money was withdrawn for tuition automatically. I had to use what was left on my credit card and my PayPal credit card to pay him the most I was able to!

Anyway good night to all and thank you

Couple of problems my mind has with episode is coincidence....and I really do not like coincidence.

An issue I also see is that since paypal divorced from ebay last year their banking practices have sped up tremendously.
If I transfer from my paypal balance to my bank, instead of the 3 to 4 days it used to take it is now near instant and always is there next day.
I would assume their withdrawal from your banking account has also undergone the same transformation. I have to assume this as I have my paypal account set up to take advantage of paypal generously giving me a 14 day interest free loan on my purchase with the "pay after delivery" system.

If we look at what we know ( and we are missing a fair bit of info as we do not know what your paypal balance was before the 927 was added or indeed just exactly how much the tuition fees were) then it looks like there was only 25 left from adams 927 payment, you then "borrowed" another 475 from paypal credit to make it to 500 returned to adam.
I really wonder what would have truly happened if adam had not "loaned" you 927?
I just dont buy into the "carefull planning" of 2 days after the paypal tuition payment is scheduled you would have funds available
sorry but it just rings too many alarm bells here.

Kevin, the bank transfer times must be different for each bank.
I recently, within the last 2 months, transferred money into my PayPal account & it took 4 days.

Your coincidence theory doesn't pan out, because there was no dialog before the funds were sent. The OP sent the money before he knew if the tortoise was still available. Your theory would hold merit IF Bob had known before hand that Adam was sending money. I don't believe that is the case.

Kevin, reread my response on comment #64.

I have employed this method of "floating" money before.

IMO, neither party is the bad guy here, just a miscommunication that hit a snag when attempting to refund the money.

AND FOR THE PUBLIC RECORD..I DO APOLOGIZE TO ADAM FOR MY PART IN THIS ...

I'M SURE WE BOTH WISH WE COULD REDO THIS

IT IS IN PAYPALS HANDS ..BUT I'M SURE IT WILL BE RESOLVED

QUICKLY ..I HOPE...:)....SINCE HE FROZE MY ACCOUNT

I got this image from Google but this is the screen I want to see. This is where it will show if he is asking for the whole amount back or just the remaining balance. It should show the comments he submitted with the claim when he filed it. The last time I had to file a claim it was only for a partial refund because one of the 2 items I purchased was broken. I only wanted the money for the broken item back. On the statement screen it showed the whole dollar amount for the purchase but once the the screen with the claim details was opened it showed a breakdown of what I was asking for.

While I agree he may not have known that adam was sending money, his ad was worded in such a way to suggest that whoever wanted the tort NEEDED to send by paypal asap and from that you could possibly construe that he hoped that SOMEBODY may send the 927 that may have been required to pay the tuition. A lot of ifs and maybes I agree but not inconceiveable, especially for somebody who admits to regularly paying the "floating money" game...a particularly dangerous game in my opinion at best.

And no need to reread your post #64, I read it perfectly clearly the first time....lol, just not a game I would ever wish to participate in although it seems more and more do nowadays.

I always try to have ACTUAL cash in Paypal

With 5 kids ..can be hard

Either way I gave Adam back whatever I had available immediately

BECAUSE U HAVE 927 of mine and my whole PayPal account locked up

At least let them know that they have the wrong amount

Anyway

Back to work

I think my position is clear

Now it's up to PayPal

This could have been so easy

Thanks for everyone's input

Best

Bob

You need to calm your rear-end down first of all. You're acting like you did nothing wrong and that it's not your problem. So, calm down and learn to read and comprehend what people are typing.

Second, HE does not have $927 of YOUR money. PAYPAL has the account locked up and the money on hold. HE does not have ANY of the money that is on lock right now. PAYPAL put the whole amount on lock because it was a SINGLE transaction that took place, which was in the amount of $927. It does not matter if you "refunded" part of it back, (when in reality you paid him back using paypal's money service instead of any balance that was originally paid to you.) So it doesn't matter what he says to Paypal about the amount that is due; they will keep the entire amount on lock until things are decided and resolved in their case.

Once you understand that, then maybe you'll understand that YOU screwed up by not having the amount in your account to refund someone. Your "customer" has every right to open a claim on you after you say that you don't have what you advertised, and when you asked them to "wait" on a refund. If you can't handle that, then maybe you shouldn't have in your ads that the first one who sends money gets dibs.

As for your comment of "This could have been so easy..." You're right; it could have been. Had you not acted like a self-righteous person to the "customer" and to everyone on this forum...It could have been SOOOO much easier.

Dr. Robert Brunner recently purchased a high end animal off me this past week and he paid me instantly on that transaction.

I have personally spoken with him over the phone a few times and he seemed like a reasonable guy.

I've been in contact with him since than and he has purchased another animal off me that I will be shipping out tomorrow.

I haven't had any issues with him so far, but I will keep everyone posted after this second deal is done.
