In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Buddy Young - Designer Boas - BAD DEAL

Nick and Dave on their posts above have nailed it. Someone who claims 20 years in the biz knows how to raise, feed and ship, after already advertising and getting paid. Period!

Yes, they both got off on the wrong foot, as was pointed out. Yes, they both display some hot-headed crap. However, the seller was NOT up front relative to shipping after being paid, nor was the seller honest in asking for PP "friends and family" payment or requiring the buyer to pay HIS PP expense.

The OP is entitled to a refund. The seller, Buddy, is questionable given his attitude over a measly $250+ refund.

nor was the seller honest in asking for PP "friends and family" payment or requiring the buyer to pay HIS PP expense.

This ALWAYS rubs me the wrong way. I've only ever had one person ask me to do it and I told them it was ridiculous. It's not up to a buyer to cover your business expenses, if you don't want to pay paypal fees as a seller then use something else.

The facts

On June 30, 2016 I received funds and told the buyer that I ship on Mondays and Tuesdays only. Monday was Independance day so my plan was to ship on Tuesday the 5th. I also alluded that I would like to get another meal and shed under the youngsters belt.

I heard nothing from buyer so I assumed he agreed so I fed on the July 1st as planned. It's worth noting that I never said the animal would need weeks before shipping.

Tuesday morning I get up and check the weather for Tuesdays shipping. In Houston. This is what I find:

Houston July Weather 2016 AccuWeather Forecast for TX 77002.jpg

I'm in central Florida here were my high temp on July 5th was 96 with a heat index of 115. No responsible breeder is going to ship a baby boa outside FEDEX shipping guidelines. Please see below from SYR:

Ship Your Reptiles Shipping Standards.png

I hear from Jason on the 6th demanding a refund and casting aspersions on my character. If I would have heard from Jason over that weekend and he had told me nevermind feeding her go ahead and ship her on Tuesday July 5th I would have done so weather permitting.

I stand by my reputation and am happy to say I have never had an unhappy customer. I refuse to have an unhappy customer it doesn't happen. I wouldn't have one now if Jason would communicate with me. Jason using 3 different email addresses and not being willing to call me or take my calls has escalated things.

Any reasonable person should put the health of the animal first. At least in my aged mind. I offered three solutions to resolve Jason's indigestion.

1.) I will ship Monday or Tuesday July 11/12 to weather permitting to whatever location he would like

2.) I will be happy to keep his boa here in our facility until he can receive the animal.

3.) I will give Jason store credit for the amount of his purchase.

Anyone that has been in this industry understands that shipping delays should be expected in the heat of summer and dead of winter. My perception is that jason is trying to hold me up because he has found something cheaper someplace else. I won't be held up.

I don't respond to threats, vulgar language and ultimatums. I am more than willing to work with Jason to resolve this issue. However we don't offer cash refunds and all sales are final.

Buddy,

I looked for your TOS and did not see one, was your buyer aware that you give no refunds?
I think that such a TOS should be in writing and emailed to a prospective buyer prior to the completion of the transaction.
I think if your buyer was not aware and could not be aware because the TOS was not presented to him, you should refund in this circumstance.

I live near Houston and we've been under a heat advisory for a week. The heat index has consistently been from about 106 to 109.
If you are offering to keep the snake for a whole month at no cost, I think that is a generous offer if your buyer wants to accept.

https://www.weather.gov/media/unr/heatindex.pdf

BTW, I believe that a 'friends and family' Paypal payment is unethical to say the least, if friends and family are not involved. It's like stealing from Paypal. I think you should consider not doing that or either asking for a surcharge, if you've been doing that.

Lie #1 - I heard nothing from buyer so I assumed he agreed so I fed on the July 1st as planned.

This is complete BS. Look at the emails on page 1. I emailed him twice but of course he "didnt get it" and because I have different email address (all with my name on them) this is his excuse for not following up.

Lie #2 - I hear from Jason on the 6th demanding a refund and casting aspersions on my character. If I would have heard from Jason over that weekend and he had told me nevermind feeding her go ahead and ship her on Tuesday July 5th I would have done so weather permitting.

Look at the last email and the texts. Things don't get nasty until he calls me a deadbeat and refuses to refund my money.

Lie #3 - I have never had an unhappy customer. I refuse to have an unhappy customer it doesn't happen.

A quick search of the BOI will return a different picture than what he is painting.

Lie #4 - I wouldn't have one now if Jason would communicate with me. Jason using 3 different email addresses and not being willing to call me or take my calls has escalated things.

Wrong. I'm past the point of EVER being able to resolve this problem with you. Even if you refund my money today I would NEVER buy or recommend you.

Listen, Buddy; refund my money and I wont say another word on this thread. Your name is already tarnished and will remain so in perpetuity on the BOI and reptile community. You can choose whether or not I put the words "Buddy willingly refunded my money" on this thread and close it or just let it ride with occasional updates to keep the views coming.

REFUND MY MONEY, BUDDY YOUNG of DESIGNER BOA

Buddy, why would you check on shipping temps for Tuesday if you went ahead and fed on the 1st and never planned to ship that day? It reads like you are trying to sound like you were doing what was best for the boa, but by saying you checked the weather for Tuesday shipping, some might think you still planned to ship then. At what point were you going to tell the buyer that you did not ship? When did you expect to ship? I would still like to know where you got the shipping information, since you told Jason on the 6th (after it should have been shipped) that you did not have his address.

Jason, because nothing was ever actually sent, PayPal should have no problem with refunding. If they do however, you should contact your credit card company or bank. You should get your money either way.

Buddy, I am confused how you have all these other reasons stated but then temps become the issue after the fail in a good business relationship. Why not have said it is too hot from the start?
I am thinking you failed on your end (i.e. could not make it to get a shipping box, had no funds for shipping etc who knows why) and started to make excuses to ship out. The temps happened to be high and that is the best excuse so you are running with it. From your posts, you don't strike me as the type who would care about temps being high, you would have just thrown an ice-pack in... keep the snake alive long enough to pass your TOS. Give the guy his money back, he does not want your business anymore.

Buddy, why would you check on shipping temps

Not that it's any of your business...wE ship every Tuesday, Do you think I ship one animal a week...lol

REFUND MY MONEY, BUDDY YOUNG of DESIGNER BOA

No cash refunds....

I couldn't care less about what you post or about the BOI Jason. I far to busy to worry about little stuff like this.

If PP refunds all your money, good, I'm happy for you. Have a nice day. If not mt offer for settlement stands....or any reasonable solution you may propose...call me anytime.

Yes I'll keep his boa until the cows come home. I'll be feeding and selling baby boas the rest of my life anyway.

I'm glad you recognize I have a novice buyer. If I get out of this world with Jason being unhappy with my product I can live with that.

I'm glad you recognize I have a novice buyer.
I said nothing whatsoever about your buyer being a novice. I did, however, explicitly reference your TOS which I could not find and which you have not now posted, and asked whether the buyer was informed that you gave no refunds. You skipped right over that part of my post, and whether you informed him prior is a crucial bit of information.

No, he did not advise me of any TOS and there are none on his Facebook page (I screen capped just in case he decided to add some after the fact). All contact I have had with him is on page 1 (both email and texts).

No, I don't think that at all. I have admired your boas for years now, and assumed you must sell quite a few. I was just wondering why you would check the weather for Houston if you were not planning on shipping to Houston. I see now.

I couldn't care less about what you post or about the BOI Jason. I far to busy to worry about little stuff like this.
You mean stuff like good customer service? You may notice that you are less busy after people read this thread and see what appears to be you making up a TOS (no refunds) after the fact, and don't want to get shafted by a similar ex post facto TOS declaration when an issue arises.

Many past sellers on the BOI have started a thread pretty much on neutral ground, and have turned opinion against them by virtue of their own posts.

I far to busy to worry about little stuff like this.

Too busy for fair customer service? What else are you too busy for?.. Cleaning your cages, proper quarantine, good linage documentation? I have to wonder now what else you would be too busy for since good customer service is on the top of the list for most breeders. Regardless there are legal process Jason is taking that will get his money back, since you are subject to a reality other than your own made up one.
I hope the busy slows down because we don't need people like you in this hobby helping destroy it's credibility. I was hoping you would come to your senses and refund, but it is obvious you will never do so unless forced to.

Now I also wonder what is wrong with the snake, since you have no intention on selling it to someone else and simply want to dump it on the guy you are calling a liar. Seems it would sell for that price and there would be other buyers, so what is wrong with the snake Buddy?

I am wondering if the snake had ever even eaten? Never seen someone push for a feed and shed on a snake that was ready to go before, but then, I haven't been around as long as Buddy.

Still no movement by Buddy or Paypal...

From the one dispute I've ever filed with Paypal, they give the seller ten days to respond to the dispute. However, they notified me within 24 hours that they received my claim, and had opened an investigation. Has PayPal at least acknowledged receipt of your claim?

With all due respect, even if your TOS (which is apparently impossible to find and questionable as to whether it was disclosed to this buyer before he sent you money or not) includes a no cash refund all sales final policy...surely someone with your experience would want to just send him back his money and completely wash your hands of this situation? Is what you're doing here REALLY worth the headache? I think you both lost your head a bit here. I feel that this is very petty. Give him back his money and sell the snake to the other party that was inquiring about it. It should not be a hard decision.

Hi Kathy,

Yes, paypal told me they received my claim (7/8/16 I believe) and its current status is "under review".
