    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Reflections on Fauna

I have a " to do business list" and a "not to do business" list, all comprised from the BOI, knowing the sellers/buyers history, and how they handle themselves when a transaction does not go as anticipated, to me, is worth much more than the "contributing member" $ amount. The $ is spent keeping this site alive.

hmm...you might be right. A healthy dose of street smarts might cure that, but whatevever.

Not sure what your point is. You seem to be implying that donors to the site are blindly donating money. When you donate $ to this site, where does it go?
 
So exactly what is your gripe, Bill? Just saying the site is going down hill is pretty vague.

Are there things about Fauna that I dont like or agree with? Sure. Do I agree with every decision or post made by the management? Nope. Do I think The Management and Mods over react to things sometimes? Oh yeah. But I also know that just like me they have bad days. Days when they may not be as tolerant, as affable or are quicker than usual to get irritated. It happens, and most times it aint personal. So dont make it personal. Just cuss them to yourself like I do and get over it.

But I have to ask, if you REALLY dont like it here, why bother even coming? Do you think any of your griping and sniping means anything at all to the management or the members? And I dont just mean you personally, but all of the countless numbers that came before you. We all got gripes. We all wish certain things were different. And no matter what Rich does we still will. So accept the good with the bad or move on to some place where the good does outweigh the bad for you.

Rich takes all the money and exchanges it for McDonalds gift certificates and buys all the paying members a Happy Meal at Daytona every year. Last year they came with Transformer toys!!

It's going towards the custom padded cell I am having built that I need after dealing with all the crap here over the years. Kind of pricey, but it's a NICE one..... :rolleyes:

Could you please post a link to where on the site it explains how to make payment to become a contributor? I have seen the page that explains the contributor levels but there is nothing that I, or my wife, have been able to locate that says how to make payment. Perhaps if how to make payment were more clearly laid out more people would contribute, and perhaps not. All I know for sure is that we both spent a couple of hours trying to find info on making contributor payments and came up empty handed.

Ouch! Sorry, I guess I just figured it would be easy to find. But now that I think of it, I guess it is kind of hidden. You could use that link at the top of the screen that says "Want to help keep the BOI alive? Click here." That would get you to the right page.

IMO the BOI allows people to avoid learing evey lesson the hard way. There is no way of knowing how much money people have saved by learning about shady people before they put their cash on the line. If I were a gambling man I would bet that it would add up to more than the cost of membership here.

Bill you obviously have internet service. Do you wonder where the money you send them goes? You pay for your ISP and when you click on your computer you get to come here or where ever it is that you are going. All of that has to be funded somehow. Rich provides the mechanics of this site and doesn't insist that anyone pay for it. Even if I knew that he was getting a financial gain from this (and I really hope he does) I would not complain about it, and would certainly not insinuate/imply/wonder if there were something "funny or unfair" going on. Rich has, I'm sure, problems due to running this site that most people would not put up with and they would just throw in the towel. I chose to contribute in the hope that this site and all it has to offer, good and bad, would be avalable for me and other for as long as possible. Otherwise one day we will click on the link to this site and will find that they "paved paradise and put up a parking lot".

That will be a sad day as far as I am concerned. Again IMO

In the case of the BOI, this is a very real possibility. For those of you who are paid members, you can see my concerns about this problem addressed here -> http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116009

I guess I should have posted those concerns in this forum, but oh well.... If someone wishes to cut and past pertinent passages, you have my blessing.

I really wasn't kidding when I put that link at the top of the page about helping to keep he BOI alive. That thread indicated above will explain what I meant by that. Sorry, but I have to look out for my own welfare too....
 
Fauna is not a "non-profit corporation" getting tax exempt status, so no one has any right to see "where the money goes". Rich provides a great site, and it's saved a LOT of folks thousands of dollars by exposing scammers and showing who is not honest in dealings. There is no way to ever know how many folks come here and click on a Bad Guy thread on a seller and find out the seller is a scam artist. Street smarts ain't gonna expose a slick scammer.
I couldn't care less if Rich spends it all on candy and donuts. He could be building a orphanage for wayward lizards. Don't care, I wish I could help more than I already have.
And Shrap.. for once... you made me laugh out loud with the Happy Meal comment. Thank you. Seriously, it's been a day, and that was priceless.

I think the paid members do understand already what you are saying.

I would like to appeal to those who are on this site regularly that are not contributing members. When I look back at how much I gained in knowledge from you people, even in a single year it is worth my contributing to keep this site up. I don't want to see it go away, but rest assured, it will go away if people who use it are not willing to support it. Not only with words (that I am sure are appreciated) but also with there money. I know times are tough, but realisticly, a contributing membership is not a huge amount of money, IMHO. Once it is gone, Rich is not likely going to go through everything it would take to bring it back (I would not blame him). Would you be willing to give that up to get it back? If I sound like a lap dog for Fauna, so be it. I like this site and want it to stay. I'm sure many of you feel the same. If I am wrong, I have misjudged you folks and am the bigger fool for it.

If that is the case, I will thank Rich for all he has provided for us. There are people I will not deal with because of what I have gleened from this site. As well as people I would not (you judge for yourself which is which).

I have been coming here for for a while. I read much and post when I feel I really have something worth while to say. If you disagree, that is fine, and I understand. If you agree, step up to the plate and help keep this site going.
 
Just to make sure we are on the same page, FaunaClassifieds itself is not under the gun. At least not directly. It's the BOI and the legal liabilities (from a financial standpoint) that are a concern to me. Every post someone makes on the BOI naming someone as a BAD GUY is a legal liability for me, regardless of the fact I am protected by federal law. I would STILL have to hire an attorney and go to court if served with papers from that bad guy who is trying to get the courts to remove that thread about them. Anyone who has started something similar to the BOI has had to (or WILL have to) face that reality eventually. The question is, can I, and do I want to, have that hanging over my head when my financial situation changes abruptly? You know, I WILL be retiring from my main business soon. :yesnod:

When the upgrade was done to the base software for this site, I spent some extra $$ to get the classifieds in better shape with the displayed thumbnail images. My main reason behind that was the hope that the classifieds may pick up in traffic enough so that IF the BOI has to go away, it won't be the death knell for the entire site. Lord knows that he general discussion forums are never going to amount to much here, so the classifieds are the only hope for the site itself if paid memberships and advertising just aren't going to cut the mustard to keeping the BOI alive.

Traffic IS picking up here, even if paid memberships are dwindling. Hopefully the more participation, then more people will be willing to contribute financially. Even with a small percentage doing so, the larger the total, the more that small percentage will be in total $$.

In any event, by the end of January, 2010, I will be eligible to start collecting my Florida state retirement. Figure on that being the time for me to take a long hard look at my plans for the rest of my life.
 
Well, OK. There's an old saying. If you're not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.
