I've bought a couple animals from Ian and haven't had any health problems with them. While I don't find him to be the nicest or most warm and fuzzy person I've ever met, I don't get hung up on things like that. The fact is, Ian deals with a lot of animals. Both CB and imported. He takes in trades and buys wholesale. Sick animals will happen. How he handles customers with those types of complaints is what is important in my book.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!. Sick animals can come from any vendor even the most reputable breeders, it happens!! I just find it sickening when the vendor fails to make good on a bad deal. In my dealings I have found Ian to be anything but professional as far as social skills are concerned. Do your research before buying. I highly advise staying away from vendors dealing with alot of import/export your chances of ending up with a sick snake are far greater!!

Yeah. Thanks Mike Schultz, bash on me all you want. I'm happy that you can call me names as well. And he said "tough guys" right in front of me while he was talking to somebody next to me, obviously referring to me as well just because my girlfriend tried to reason with him. She wasn't being snippy with him anyways, it's just how he couldn't handle her trying to reason with him after I spent $138 pn vet bills and he didn't want to help me out. I didn't tell my mother or my girlfriend to talk to him. I never act out as the way I did at the show. Ian just made me lose my temper because he threw words at me and my girlfriend. I was "cool" with him when I went behind the table with him the first time. All he wanted to do for me is sell a snake to me with the same discount as to anybody else. I really don't even know as why I went back to him for a new snake since the snake I had originally bought was sick. I also google'd Outback looking for more neg feedback on them and I found a recent thread that someone had bought a snake with an RI from them and Ian did not help them out at all. Oh well. I'm sure the most part of his snakes are healthy, but as for the ones sick like mine I just want people to be aware of.

I really am not falsifying any parts of the story. I didn't go to that show to pick a fight. I never, and i mean never have gotten so angry in my life. All he wanted me to do was keep buying from him in the future and he would take off a a small discount off each snake I buy up until the discounts added up to the cost of my vet bills. That is ridiculous because he was selling to everyone else at those prices and my deal with him would be nothing special. I could have ended up with another sick snake anyways. If I had my own reptile breeding company and had a customer with the same thing that happened to me, I probably would have told them to ship the snake back to me to have it checked out and have it traded in for a healthy one if it was indeed sick. Or if the buyer did not want another snake from me, thinking it would be sick, I would probably pay for most/all of the vet bills.

I do wash my hands EVERY time after I handle my beardies. The sick snake I bought from Outback Reptiles was sick before I brought it home because the day I got home from the show, it defecated the runny,horrible smelling stool. None of my beardies came in contact with my snake. It was in a totally different room on a different level of my house. All of my beardies seem to be fine and not sick at all.

Yes Ralph, that's what I'm asking...Along with any reports the Vet has available with the diagnosis of the Spider. Generally it's pretty standard to post conversations and other information to back up your story. Because the exchange was face to face, your evidence would be in the veterinarian reports.

I then asked what he could do for me price-wise on the $200 female, thinking he could at least take off $100, I mean breeders usually take off $50 or even more when you ask for a better price on a snake priced $200 and up. I mean maybe he could be a nice guy and let me pay the difference from my vet bills, but I didn't have my hopes set that high. He said $160 was the best he could do. I told him I'd think about it and walked away, pissed off. I was pissed because he was taking that percentage off for anybody who was asking to buy a snake from him. I was there watching him sell snakes for a pretty long time. I then walked away in disgust, but my girlfriend approached him while I wasn't there and tried to get a better deal on the snake or at least trade in my snake I originally had bought from him for one of equal value because she knew I was upset. He told her no and that it was my fault that I went to an overpriced vet. He said that him or any of his staff would not have recommended seeing a vet, and to just talk to them first. Seriously? I just talked to him on the phone after the last reptile show and I told him I was going to a vet, and I had to get back to him with the status of my snake. Once I heard he was pretty much calling me stupid for taking my sick snake I bought from him to the vet, I was furious. I went back up to his table and just stared at him and his snakes for a good 10 minutes because I didn't even know what to say to him. He was making some comments to customers near me that there were some "tough guys" at this show, obviously relating to me because I wanted to be reimbursed for the money I spent just to get my snake back to normal. He asked me if I needed to see anything, I replied "no." He then asked if I wanted to talk to him behind his little table again so the customers won't be scared away after knowing I bought a sick snake from him. Why would I want to hide from all these people that he sold me a sick snake? I don't want other people to buy sick snakes from him, but whatever I can't stop them. I stood there just staring at his snakes for another 5 minutes or so and he asked if I was going to stand there all day, trying to be wise. I then asked him why he sold me a sick snake and then he started to get angry because there was a crowd at his table and they heard me. I don't even remember what he said after I asked him. It was just something to try and cover up what I asked. He then started to get wordy and try and make me feel stupid for going to the vet once again. I replied to him "I can't wait to post some nice feedback for you on the internet" and then he flipped out on me.

Seems like you were more angry about not getting the 50% discount on that female pastel than anything else.

Your going on about expensive vet bills you expect Ian to pay for, did he tell you to take that spider ball to a vet? it was the right thing to do but dont expect a seller to pay for them without asking before hand.

Its a good idea to take all new purchases to a qualified herp vet for a wellness exam and a fecal to assure the health of a new snake.

Btw, the stare down was classic!

Ralph I believe that if you had approached Ian in a less hostile manner you may have already settled your problem.

I have purchased animals from Ian in the past and always been satisfied. In fact I just picked up a group of milks this weekend at the all Maryland show. I carefully inspected and handled each before closing the transaction and asked questions about feeding habits etc. In my opinion waiting a whole week before contacting outback reptiles with your concerns was a mistake. How can any one selling reptiles at a show know what happens to the animal when it leaves Their care. What bothers me about this whole thread is the fact that you went again to the show with the intention of making another purchase from a seller you are clearly upset with. Most but not all buyers would chalk it up as a bad experience and move on to another breeder.

Could you please post a copy of the vet report so that we can see some proof about the hookworms.

My scanner isn't working at the moment since it's old. My mother told me she will scan them for me at work tomorrow. Oh well, I'm 19 and live with my parents.

I don't want any of his snakes anymore. I was interested in the pastel he had, but not after the $40 he was going to take off the price tag that he would have done for anyone else. And definitely not after how he cursed me out.

I'm sorry, but telling an unsatisfied customer "f*** you" is not a way to resolve an issue.

You've said this several times, but what makes that a foregone conclusion?
(I know if you came to my table, and I had something marked $200, I wouldn't be dropping the price that much unless it was something I absolutely didn't want to take home.

Also, FWIW, given the behavior you've described (yours, that is), I'm surprised you weren't told to move on or leave.
Do you really think you would be considered a tough guy for standing there, staring at him, while having your mother and girlfriend argue with the vendor? If he WAS referring to you, I'm sure it meant sarcastically.

I walked out form behind his table obviously pissed off and walked away as my gf stayed up there to talk thing over with him since I had gotten nowhere. But here's the point, I bought a sick snake from him. I told him on the phone I would take it to the vet to see if there was something wrong. He told me alright, and to see him at the next show to work things out or to call him back. I found out there was indeed something wrong with my snake. I saw him at the next show and nothing was done about my $138 i spent on vet bills on a sick snake I bought from him. I talked to him behind his table and he wasn't gonna do anything other than give me a regular buyer's small discount off of a snake. Then he rambled off on whatever he was saying and being mean about it. I was wrong for going to the vet that cost me a lot of money to save my sick snake I bought from him and it wasn't his fault...yeah ok. I told him I was gonna post some feedback fro him when I got home since he wasn't going to help me out much. He told me he didn't care and then cursed at my gf and I. Then out of anger, I cursed back at him and went down the table telling people not to buy from him because he sold me a sick snake then headed for the exit. My mother came back in with my gf and I after to talk to him since he just cursed us out, while I had to pick up some live rat pups I forgot to get before.

This truely is an unfortunate event. Ian is very accomidating and will go out of his way to make things right. When you have a large operation like Ians, you have thousands of customers. Not everyone will have the best luck. He is human and will make things right. Coming up with threats like bashing someone on a forums, is where you went wrong. Making a threat will just give you an "F off" remark from anoybody. If you really think posting a bunch of nonsense on this forum hurts his feelings or hurts his business, it really just attracts more attention, and gives people some comical relief. I have seen Ian take care of kids at the White plains show that left their King snakes in the car while they went to burger king for lunch, only to retun to the vehicle with cooked snakes in the car. Your situation might not have been your fault, but it might have been resolved well in your favor if you did not act out. He might have made a $40 off remark in front of other people, but realistically you probably would have recieved a new snake and satisfaction that would have excceeded you expectations.

you wrote this in your original post. Maybe you should have taken this into consideration more when you bought the snake. Most people would not buy a thin snake. I'm not saying the snake was or was not sick to begin with. Anyone can sell an animal not realizing its sick.

I usually have a table myself at the White Plains, NY show. I once had a customer purchase 2 baby milks. At the following show, he brought me a dead snake (the rest of this clutch did fantastic). I knew it was mine from the markings. He had bought from me previously, so I just replaced the milk with another. 3 days later, i get a call (from his mother) that the replacement snake died. It was from a totally different clutch and morph. Obvisouly it was something they were doing wrong. I told them there was nothing I could do..a lot can happen in a weeks time.

I've both bought from and sold to Outback Reptiles, I have never had a problem with them.

A 20% discount is a big discount on a $200.00 female pastel ball python. I bet if you got the $100.00 discount you were trying for this thread might have read Ian G. awesome good guy.

On a serious note...when buying at a show go over what you are buying with a fine tooth comb.

What I mean is look it over real good.

Yeah, it didn't seem too bad though. It just looked a tad bit skinnier than the rest of the ball pythons. I was referring to it as maybe there was something wrong with it, but I didn't know as to I was somewhat new to the ball python community at the time. I was sold a sick snake.
