In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

leaving bad karma and karma doesn't go up.

I feel like a NOOB but I can't figure out how to give bad Karma and when I leave good Karma I don't see that persons Karma go up...

I've tried the serach (How to give bad karma) but nothing came up, I'm probably not looking in the right spot. I hate for someone to hold my hand here and if there is a link to these questions I am in serach of I have no problems reading... Just looking for a friendly point in the right direction.

The negative Karma was removed a couple weeks ago because some people were whining about it. As for positive Karma, it sometimes doesn't show up right away in the left bars and really, unless they're on the edge of acquiring a new green square or you have a high Karma rating yourself, it might not even rollover.

Interesting... We sure don't want to hurt any ones feelings! God Bless America!

Thank you.

Thank you.

That's the way things work just about everywhere. The majority lose out due to a few doing wrong or a few whining about something. Look at all the bannings and restrictions of animals due to a few idiots doing wrong. That's all it takes, an incident or two and the rest who follow the rules get punished along with the wrong doers. Is it fair, I'd say not but what can you do about it? :shrug01: As the saying goes, a few bad apples spoil the bunch. :NoNo:

The karma system was being abused by some so it was changed so all you can leave is good karma.

We are a more friendly and happy site because of that.:)

Some are happier because they are no longer getting what they deserve for their poor choice of words and their new ability to continue to do so without consequences. :NoNo:

Man, if it only worked like this in the real world... You can't be fired but can only get raises! Who are we catering to? Adults or children? I love when people are honest, if I screwed up let me know, not only am I man and can take feedback (Good or bad) it also helps me think about how I come across to others. I don't try to piss people off, forums don't usually understand my personality as people do in real life... I joke and BS a lot, sometimes I come across rude when I'm trying to be funny... Oh well. :D

Negative karma was disabled due to some abuses by a number of members...as is usually the case - some people were happy about the change, some were not. I don't know if Rich plans to restore it at some point or not, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time it has been disabled.
As far as people's karma not going up - you have to consider the impact you are making, and the ranges shown for the different levels. When a member looks at somebody else's karma, they get a range. For example, looking at the karma of the people in this thread, I see the following ranges: <50-149>, <1000-1499>, <450-549>...No specific number for any given member. Now consider that one's karma score goes up by the value of the giver's "karma power"....in your case, Scott, that means you boost somebody by 5 points. David can give somebody 31 points...but even that won't necessarily change the range showed.
Further, while the running total seen in your User CP is up to the minute, the system adjusts things daily...at least in terms of ranking. So, if somebody moves from one group to another, I don't think that will be shown until the daily update. (I don't remember what time that happens)

That's a load of garbage. :ack2:

I'd have to agree, here.

Maybe there are some changes that could be made to reduce abuses of the karma system in order to reinstate negative karma. Perhaps infraction points and/or bans (temporary or otherwise) could be issued to those who abuse the karma system? Has this been tried before? (I didn't see anything on the Infractions post that directly related to karma...except for a couple general ones that might apply, depending on the situation.)

Not really feasible, Krystal. Only Rich, as site administrator, can view the karma logs. As a moderator, there is a multi-step process by which I can view the karma a member has received....but there is no definite indicator of whether it was + or - (only a best guess based on the comment), and I cannot tell what post it was attributed to (which means there isn't anything to judge)

But wouldn't that be where the rest of us would come in to report it if it did happen? Isn't that how it was brought to the attention of the mods in the first place? I'm pretty sure there was previously an infraction / warning points for Karma abuse but it was a few years ago.

To an extent, Dave....members could report negative karma which they felt was unmerited/abusive (omg, can't you just see the flood of complaints, lol), BUT the moderators would be unable to confirm the validity of the issue. Sure, we could read the karma comments; and if that was abusive in nature, we could address that....but it isn't always that cut and dry. A lot of the comments aren't problematic, but the negative karma could be retaliative or for inappropriate reasons (ie. disapproval of one's choice of vendor). If we can't see what post the karma is issued to, we'd just have to accept whatever the complainant told us.

I'm not sure if it would work but after hitting "submit reply" we'll see if it will. I'm thinking if the complainer(s) cut and paste the whole line the mod would be able to see the comment and a link to the thread in question. (again I'm thinking the cut and paste will allow the link to the thread to work and be clickable) But here is an example of someone going to a post I made just to attempt to leave me bad karma. :NoNo:

My point was that there is no way to confirm that info (that the post linked is, in fact, the one that received the karma)....yeah, I'm jaded from the amount of crap I've seen from people; but if I can't follow an official trail to see the info, I don't really want to look. I'm not saying that the majority of things people send me aren't accurate, but there is enough incorrect info that I don't take anything for granted.

I can understand where you are coming from Harald but at that point shouldn't the liar(s) be punished (for lack of a better word) versus everyone? It seems we are all guilty until proven innocent. Looks like the bad apple(s) have screwed the rest yet again.

I'm not trying to argue with you Harald. I know my opinion or posting here isn't going to change anything. It's I'm just against the everyone being treated the same when they all aren't the same. This is in every aspect not just this Karma issue.

To me it just seems prejudicial to group everyone into a single category that's all. (i.e. every Arabic person isn't a terrorist, all bald white guys aren't skin heads, all blacks aren't criminals, all Hispanics don't do landscaping, all posting here aren't going to abuse the Karma system, etc...) Just my opinion for what it's worth.
