In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

WOW, Man O Man. Where do I even start. As some of you may know already I am on deployment. I am on a ship out on the Ocean. I browse Craigslist daily from out here. I am guessing this is the best place to tell my story. 2 days ago (my time) I found a nice looking guyana on San Diego's Craigs List (CL). So I immediatley sent the link to my wife and told her to buy it. Who wouldn't want to pick up a well peaked Guyana for $100? Expecially one that would be ready to breed next year or so. (Keep in mind that my wife is home with the snakes right now, we have about 8 or 9 BCC's in our house.)

So my wife goes to pick the snake up. The woman (Julia) wants to meet her at best buy because her family is sick and company would not be a good idea. So the whole I am emailing my wife on the blackberry. Thanks to technology I can practiacalll text my wife through email these days. So after she gets the snake my wife replies to me. This snake is ugly. It has a black tail and is not pretty at all.

I then reply is it even a Guyuana, or BCC? She says she don't think so. THis is after she got the snake and left! My wife then goes to the pet sotre where she works because she is about to pick up food. She works at Pet Kingdom in San Diego. I am not sure who she is working with but they tell her the snake is a MALE Central American Boa. I finally get a pic of the snake. I am so dissapointed at this point. So I tell her to call the woman ASAP. Who does not answer for the rest of the day.

The next day comes and the woman returns the call. I am relieved that she called back and is not ignoring us. My wife explained the situation. The woman replies that her vet told her that it is a female Guyana and that the the picture in the Ad is the same snake that she gave us! She also said there is nothing she can do about it at this point. She also claimed that the guys at the pet store didn't know what they were talking about.

The point is. If anyone from San Diego browses this ad (that is still up) or the retic that she has for sale. I would not trust her. I attached the pics. one is from the as and the one with the blue pillow case is the snake we got. Yes this all boils down to my wife beaing and idiot (like I said we have like 8 or 9 BCC's and she shoudl know the difference by now.

This is what the ad read because she already took it off. Luckily I saved it but can't really use it is proof now since it is gone from CL.

"Hello, I am rehoming a Guyana Red Tail Boa. We have a cross country move ahead of us, and I don't want to chance her health in a car for 4 days. She is roughly 3 1/2-4 feet long, and in great health. Good eater, and is VERY docile. Would be a great snake for a first time snake owner. There is a rehoming fee of $100 (FAR less than what you would pay at a pet store) which includes the snake only. Serious inquiries only.

She is handled often, and doesn't bite.

Contact Julia at 813 695 4836."

SD Rip Off

First, thanks for helping protect our freedom. I can't say that loudly enough.

Second, what an obvious rip off. My guess is that the seller of that CA Boa will still be in SD when you get back. You gotta figure she's just an out and out liar and none of her story is true.

Third, if it were my wife, she'd NEVER have gone out of her way to increase my snake collection, so give her lots of credit for that. On the other hand, you might think about a visit to the optometrist for her. :)

I hate when CL sellers want to meet somewhere. It always makes me think they're hiding something.

I just google image seached guyana female. found the same pic there. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=guyana+boa&gbv=2

Funny because the woman claimed that the picture was an older pic of the snake she sold us?

The reason I did this is because i searched her phone number on craigslist and found a vacuum she had for sale. She mentioned that this was not an exact picture of the vacuum because her vacuum was broken.

Selling broken appliances and ripping off animal lovers on CL. What a great career.

Anonymity has it's merits. Gotta love the internet.

When you come back from deployment, find her and kill her. Don't worry, I'll be your alibi. lol

found her car for sale. The one she was in when my wife bought the snake. Too bad she doesnt run front tags like you are supposed to in CA. Or maybe she has it registered in Florida?

Does anyone know if any of the reverse look up things work? I need to get my wife to go flirt with some T Mobile guy and get this womans adress! LOL.

WOW, what a blatant rip off! That is obviously not the same snake... I can't even imagine how people sleep at night doing things like that.

Find her and kill her over $100?

What a jackass thing to suggest even if it was said jokingly.

Problem is now. Lack of proof that this is the snake she sold us.
Even though the snake is clearly not the one you posted a pic of earlier, it's hard to get away from the simple fact that your wife looked at the snake in person, handed her money, and left with the snake. You can try to argue that you wanted the snake pictured in the ad; but (IMO), it still comes down to looking at the snake in person + paying for the snake = getting the snake you paid for :shrug01:

Heck yes we're hiding something... our home address, our neighborhood, the potential browsing of our personal possessions, any clues as to the whereabouts of our other family members or children... the list is actually quite long. I have sold a ton of stuff on Craigslist and I will NEVER allow a pickup at my house. These days, you'd have to be a special kind of idiot to just trust someone you "met" over an anonymous classified ad.

So yes... every time I sell on CL, I hide everything I possibly can except my name and the details of the product. It would be imprudent and irresponsible of me, for my family's sake, to do otherwise.

It's unfortunate in this case what happened... but that's the nature of CL. I would be far more worried about bringing strange snakes with no history into my house than about whether I got the "right" one.

Unfortunately, I'd have to agree with Harald on this. I'd say you've done all you can insofar as warning others. Now, the best thing for you to do is see what you can get for the snake and cut your losses.

I would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER invite a stranger to my house through an internet deal. It potentially endangers me, my family, and my collection.

Ill just be sure to text her myself when I get home from deployment. Yes I am about as mad at my wife than this woman. It is hard living in Tennessee my whole life where you can leave your doors unlocked all the time etc. Then moving to a place like this where I have had a car broken in to and 2 cars vandalized for having McCain Palin stickers on them. Cant wait to move back.

I will text the woman myself when I get to Hawaii. If anything just to let her know how I feel about the situation. Theres no boubt it was intentional. Why else would she lie about the picture?

Sorry she said broken Camera and not vacuum.

Theres no boubt it was intentional. Why else would she lie about the picture?

I think you may have answered your own question. It would seem she was told she had a guyana by her vet and believed that she did. Her camera is broken so she couldn't take any pictures of the actual snake. So she figures the next best thing she could do is to search for a photo online that she could use to represent what she had for sale.

When you put it together like this.....I really don't see it as her intentionally trying to rip you off. I really don't see calling her weeks later to complain about it further as a very smart thing to do. That is pure harassment. You had a chance to walk away from the deal but you went forward with it. You should live with it and learn from it and make better choices in the future because of it.

Hard to believe something like that would happen in CA, the land of tolerance, enlightenment, peace, love, and liberalism!

Best of luck in the future, but like I said, it may be best to just cut your losses.

She told my wife the reason the snake looked different in the picture is because the picture on the ad was an old picture of the snake. But it was the same snake. This is the lie i was reffering to.

I was not there to walk away from the deal. Yes my wife should have known as soon as she layed eyes on the snake. Like I said we have lots of BCC's.
