In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just want to start breeding a bit, just like a pair or two. Do I need a license or need to tell the state of Texas anything for selling them/shipping them online or to pet stores or anything? What do I need to do to be legal doing this?

I haven't started yet, but can't wait!

Thanks,
Levi.

If you are serious, I would suggest you look into the laws in your state. If you actually want to make some kind of success in it, it's best to start right. Most businesses need a business license, this involves paying taxes and having a shipping permit.

Otherwise, if you are just going to be breeding a pair or two..good luck.

I'm planning on just starting with just 1 or 2 pairs. Would I need a shipping permit? Do I have to get a license? Pay taxes on my sales? Etc. Also anyone that knows texas laws or has business here, I would love to speak with.

As for a shipping permit, unless that is some Texas-specific thing, you do not need one.
Fed Ex can get you a live animal shipping waiver--there are instructions on that in the shipping forum. Or you can just use SYR.

You will need a business license if you make over a certain $ amount each year from your sales. Check your State law to determine how much that is.
You will have to charge/pay sales tax on things you sell in your State, but not things sold across State lines.

:iagree:
FedEx waiver is also a shipping permit for THAT company, sorry for any confusion.

Doesn't matter how it's shipped. If you're selling to another person in your state, you have to pay sales tax. If you're selling to someone out of state, you don't have to pay sales tax.

Watch for city taxes, too. If someone comes to your house to pick up an animal, or you deliver or ship to someone in your city, you may have to add a local city tax in addition to the State sales tax. Check whether your city has an added sales tax.

Or just do as some of us do and swallow the taxes (get a whopping bill later, if you are honest).

I sell the snakes, put money aside and pay the taxes myself. Simpler..when/if I expand that can change.

I would set up a business liscense. It's minimal in cost and if you operate at a loss or moderate gain (which you likely will), all your expenses become wright offs without paying extra taxes.

so... What are you hoping to be breeding?

Hopefully, BPs... Maybe 1.1 Mojave and a normal female hoping to get some cash from BELs to allow me to start breeding more pairs.

Anyone know of some good makers like that ^ (the mojaves arent extremely expensive and can pull out 1-1.5k BELs...)

HOWEVER, this is only if S373 is denied before the show I'm going to later this month.

If it isn't.... Horrible day and will have to do something else... :(

Good luck with them :D
Boa genetics/morphs are pretty easy for me but I can't make heads or tails of a lot of the BPs (and eggs scare me)
What are BELs?

I made my calls/faxes/ emails again today

I have small business links somewhere, I'll look for them.

Thanks mate. I just researched ball stuff.. Not pro but I sorta get it. BELs is blue(or mayb black) leucistics. The blue eyed were the ones I was reffering to. Solid white with blue eyes.. About S373 - can it be utterly canceled tomorrow?

S 373 has not yet gone to vote. It's on its way to mark up. At this stage, it can be altered and amended. We don't yet know what changes will be made. The Bill will then still go to be voted on, where it could be voted down completely, OR turned into law.
