In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Daniel Nutwell

Daniel, as that pet stores customer, you got hosed...it doesn't feel good does it? Yet by not offering a full refund to YOUR customer, you are simply perpetuating the cycle...YOUR now hosing THEM. There is NO question that an immediate FULL refund is in order...PERIOD!

Refund Reeve her money. It should be NO concern of hers how you go about dealing with the pet shop. It is absolutely unacceptable that your keeping Reeve in the middle of this. She is collateral damage due to that pet stores nonsense and your ignorance (I don't mean that as an insult...I'm simply pointing out that you mentioned your inexperience)

Daniel, fix this!

:iagree: Very well put :iagree:

refunded, and the name of the pet store is Aqua Pet's in Milton, FL. i'm not even positive if Nancy (the owner) knew what she was getting. She took this lizard in on a trade, and just had cataract surgery. so her vision isn't great. but i believed her being as monitors isn't really my thing. i'm a snake guy and wanted to get into lizards. so, like i said, refund sent, and lesson learned.

You are a good man... and on the right track. Thank you. Looks like your owed a book

Thank you Reeve for confirming that you received the refund. I'm happy for both you and Stephani. Also, I cant blame Stephanie for wanting to keep it...Niles are amazing animals. The first lizard that I even owned was a Nile. It takes some work to calm them down...it'll do a lot of bullwhipping and pooping on you :)... but it is VERY rewarding when the little guy dozes off while your handling him/her (as Stephanie has already found out). I'm sure it'll be a great addition to your family and I wish you much success with it!

Now...It looks like Daniel made a mistake, either by trying to pull a fast one, or actually thinking he sold the OP a Water monitor. Based on his actions on this thread, I have no reason to believe it wasn't an honest mistake. On the BOI we deal with grown men holding out refunds because the customer called them 12 min and 54 seconds after the deadline listed in the their TOS. 20 pages later, after name calling and flawed logic, nothing gets resolved. Yet here we have a young man who, from post one, never faulted the OP, admitted he made a mistake, then manned up and made things right. Daniel...you did the right thing today!

By the way, for those of you who are thinking "...well, he was offered a book to make it right...and those books are 2 or 3 times the $ that he paid for the monitor...so he didn't give the refund with pure intentions..." The following is what Daniel PMed me earlier...

Thank You. i just can't believe they would do that. i honestly trusted them and believed it was a water monitor, and not a nile. but you don't have to get me a book lol. if you could give me some titles of good informative, educational books, that would be satisfaction enough. thanks again

Doesn't look like a selfish scammer to me.

OK...before we start handing out the torches and march on that pet shop, Daniel can you please PM a Mod and ask if it would be more appropriate for you to post a new bad guy or inquiry thread? As far as I can tell, this thread can be put to bed. The issues between Danile and the OP have been resolved. However, like I said, PM a Mod and ask them what to do. But be quick Daniel, the way I see it, we have a couple days to try and get you compensation from that pet store. If the BOI turns into pay-to-play, you might not be able to post here anymore (without being a payed member). Please contact a Mod so we know how to proceed.

Finally, lets not forget the book! Daniel, you said you'll probably just stick to snakes. However, I STRONGLY recommend you do NOT let this whole mess leave a bad taste in your mouth. Monitors are incredible animals with a lot of character and personality. They are really a joy to work with. However, its up to you...do you want a good informative snake book, or a good informative monitor book? Your call either way.

I don't want to get too off topic on here so lets talk about this via PM. The problem is, its been 8 or 9 years since I owned a monitor...I'm out of the loop. Can someone please PM me and recommend a few titles that you feel would be beneficial for Daniel to own? Daniel, if you rather have a snake book then I have a good idea on which books you'll learn a lot from. Like I said, I'll talk to you about this via PM. Right now I'm just soliciting some monitor book info from more experienced members...please someone PM me if you have an appropriate book in mind.

Score another one for the BOI...great job everyone!

You people really buy this? I don't believe a word Daniel says about this. He tried to sell a nile as a water & when he got caught he did the usual scumbag thing of pointing the blame elsewhere. A pet shop owner who has been in business for 20 years doesn't know the difference between a nile & a water or the laws concerning them? He refunded money to get this thread to fade off into the BOI & hoped his illegal actions didn't catch up to him. Had it not been for the BOI, he would of gotten away with the scam & kept the extra cash from the wrong species & inflated shipping charge. Another Dirtbag exposed!!!! Thanks BOI

if that were he case, i'd request for this thread to be deleted, but i'm not. i realize i wrong her, so i did the correct thing. as far as the pet shop owner, nancy, as i stated she just had cataract surgery and most likely honestly couldn't tell. if you feel i'm a dirt bag, that's fine, it's what these threads are for. i wasn't out to scam anyone, i was simply misinformed. i'm sorry you feel the way you do, happy new year

Daniel,
Once threads are started, they will not be deleted. You first tried to weasel your way out of refunding money by putting yourself first with what legal repercussions you might be dealing with, which is not the OP's problem. Then you wanted the monitor shipped back to you & have the OP break the law before you would send back money? Your own actions either make or break your reputation in this hobby!

well put, now, i'm done speaking on this thread and cluttering things up, if you'd like you can PM me. happy new year

Sorry to also go a bit off topic but although books are good they are VERY generic when it comes to keeping varanids in my opinion. If AtrociousOne is willing they can PM me and I will answer any and all questions I can, provide care sheets and photos of multiple species and provide my experiences from working with over 20 different species. :D But I can recommend a book or three. Again sorry to go off topic but wanted to throw that out there.

I have been scammed several times by a few different types and needless to say I've yet to see a scammer or weasel come and defend themselves and then still issue a refund. I'm not saying that you're not right in the possibility the only reason it was done was because of responses here. But I will say it's rare that refunds happen this quickly if at all. Most weasels just take the money and run. No need to give that name.

And IF the shop owner had impaired vision it's not impossible to mix up certain species especially when they're young and to the untrained eye can look alike. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you should to just a little bit.

shipping the animal out of the state is not breaking the law, where she lives the animal is legal. she has contacted FWC so when they contact me, i will inform them of the shop. i don't have a receipt though, i didn't get one cuz i've bought from them plenty, and trusted them. woops

Besides the issue with ROC, if you do not have a permit that allows you to display/sell, then YES it is breaking the law. Doesn't matter whether you are selling in state or out of state. Just FYI.

I for one think you are a good guy who made a mistake.Your unselfish actions have proved that I would do buisness with you any day of the week.I can name ( but will not) A FEW KNOWN DEALERS WHO STILL WILL NOT GIVE A REFUND OR ADMIT A MISTAKE.This thread has been a pleasure to read and watch unfold. You have shown me hope in this time of so many ripoffs. In fact I know someone who got a snake in the other day and it came in with a badly swollen head and mouth. When he contacted the dealer they said oh we had it 6 months and it was just fine and did nothing but said wait and see how it recovers.Took no blame at all.If the snake dies will they replace it I doubt it very much.
