In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Another thread got me googling ( darn google) for info. on a sarcasm font. I mean how many misunderstandings and flame posts start for lack of understanding a sarcastic comment?
I'm not sure what it would take to get it here, but the smart people at The Sarcastic Font movement ( the top of the google list) had a brain fart and here it is: ( they even have a Manifesto and Usage Guide.)

I think the back slanting font ( or is it forward slanting?) is subtle enough not to take away from the text, but indicative enough to avoid confusion...
What do you all think?
and to Rich:
Could this be done?

***ps) I started this poll at cs.com as well.

LOL.. I love the IDEA of it.. but the chance of it working is low.. Since most people will merely read it as italics.. and not get the idea that it represents sarcasm...

and for two.. the point of the sarcasm would be kinda deflated. ya know ? I mean.. where's the FUN?

^What she said.

Just have to explain the font on top of the sarcasm.

No matter what font you use, it can't make the reader any brighter

True, but we won't know unless we try. If enough sites used it, it would eventually be common knowledge. "lol" came about exactly that way.

True also, that's why there's option #3 :)

I like the idea, but my problem is pretty much all my communications would have to be back slanted - I'm British after all, and sarcasm is my native tongue.....

I can't tell if you're meaning sarcastic comments would be italicized or slanted in the reverse direction. Either way, it would be confusing for people who use italics for emphasis.

Even if we could put sarcasm in a completely different font, I doubt it would work. People wouldn't have a clue what the deal is with different fonts, and we'd have to explain to them what it means every, single time it's used. If we can't get people to read the bright yellow/red banners at the top of every page, we won't get them to figure out a sarcastic font.

Yeah, Some members might have to just tape the 'sarcasm button' down to their keyboard. :shrug01:

I guess we could make a Debbie Downer font as well, LOL ( remember her?).

:rofl: Some people don't like change. They will answer for everyone else..it's the "other" people that won't know what's happening...sigh.

I have no clue if the other people are as dense as some want to make out, but I am willing to take a chance that they may NOT be, and it may catch on quite as fast as "LOL" (some people STILL don't know what it means).:D

Here's the problem...

The font won't work unless it's actually installed on the computer that is viewing it. So if someone selects it in the drop down when making a post, unless I have that particular font installed on my computer, it will just revert to the forum default.

This is why websites use (at least those programmed correctly) web safe fonts as opposed to any ol' font found on your computer.

;)

And before anyone points out that they can view the font on the linked website and they don't have the font installed...It's because it's an image, not coded text on the site. You can right click and View Image to see the image by itself.

Actually, no, I don't. I don't watch SNL. Never have.

Sorry, but I have a sarcastic and cynical outlook on the general public due to seeing all manner of Stupid every, single day. (Like the freshmen who don't know what a compass is and how it works, who can't do 7th-grade math, who don't know what wind is, etc. And yes, those are real examples from classes I and my friends have TAed.) Sorry, life has made me jaded...and I'm sorry that I speak from experience.

Someone asked for opinions. I answered. <font="Sarcasm">Maybe we need a font that specifies when people want actual feedback and people who just want others to agree with them.</font>
