Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info US GLOBAL EXOTICS SPCA RAID

I agree what is wrong with microchipping? That is a compromise.

What is wrong with it? First, it assumes the other side is negotiating in good faith (which they are not) and that they will be satisfied with a compromise (which they won't.) Second, it won't accomplish anything except make it inconvenient and more costly for responsible, law-abiding owners.

I agree we should all stand together because this fight is against us all. Just as the florida issue has gotten out of hand. I was at a resuce in Fl and a nile monitor was about to be put down and I offered to take it to GA But because of the permitting issue, I couldnt because I dont have that permit even though its not required here in GA. He had done nothing wrong but he had to die because of permitting issues. He was the 2nd one to be put down that month. Didnt seem fair to the nile monitor or me. But no one cared.
I feel for the folks at US Global. I have been on a VERY small scale of what is going on with them. On Christmas eve a few years back a lady came in and made a big scene over water not being in a desert reptiles cage. Despite trying to educate her, she later called animal control and a fiasco insued. Short story. Ended up in court, GA dept of Ag inspectors contradicted the animal control officers testimony despite that I was afraid of putting my life on the line of the jury who may or may not understand reptile care. Cost me over 5,000. in attorney fees and fines to settle the case and later I closed the petshop. I couldn't place my family's welfare with uneducated do gooders that can make your life hell with the drop of a phone call. It is very hard to find a pet shop here that has much in the way of reptiles. I can understand why. Sorry so lengthy but I support FULL investigation by legal investigators over peta or other do gooders any day. I too would like to be linked if there is discussion of the Florida laws on Reptiles of conern.

So has anyone actually seen photos or any proof of these supposedly mistreated animals? I dunno but it would seem that if there were actually mistreated animals PETA and SPCA would have photos all over the media to show everyone and further their agenda with the general public. Some of these people especially with PETA aren’t exactly the most level headed middle of the road kinds of folks you know. At times they can be downright fanatical about their agendas so it seems kinda weird that there’s no photos of the alleged abuse when it would serve their cause so well. Like I said I dunno but just something to think about.:confused:

Sure they can show photo's but who's to say they weren't fabricated and certainly they won't show the whole picture.

Actually they should have video taped the raid entirely from start to finish.

But I think I understand and if what I understand SerpentsDen to mean is correct, I agree.

The agencies (PETA and SPCA) could show pics, but the pics wouldn't necessarily show the true story, they could be slanted. Therefore, in order to get the true story, the entire thing should have been videotaped from start to finish? Then we could see the TRUE story. We would be able to see if there were any obviously starving animals brought out, and know if there were there any dead, obviously abused animals? A video would have answered these questions instead of leaving it for the public's imagination?:shrug01:

I agree to that too, but also agree with what the other poster was saying, if it was really as bad as they are saying, they should be plastering images of these so-called horrific conditions & animals all over the place. I find it a little suspicious that there aren't more images of it out there, video or other.

With video at least it would show a broader sight of the situation but wasn't someone from PETA working undercover neglecting animals to further their agenda?

Here is a thread that concerned my business, it's a long read but if you pay close attention to the dates and time lines you'll see through the confusion.
And it made the newspaper 6 months later with no pics of abuse.

Arlington granted custody of seized animals

By SUSAN SCHROCK

[email protected]

ARLINGTON — A court has granted custody of more than 27,000 animals seized from U.S. Global Exotics last month to the city of Arlington.

Municipal Judge Michael Smith ruled Tuesday that owners Jasen and Vanessa Shaw cruelly treated the hundreds of species of exotic animals at their north Arlington wholesale business.

The animals were inhumanely confined in cramped and dirty cages and denied necessary food, water and veterinary care, Smith wrote in his order.

The animals have been cared for by the SPCA of Texas and other nonprofit animal welfare groups since being removed from U.S. Global Exotics on Dec. 15.

ARLINGTON - A judge has ruled animals at U.S. Global Exotics were treated cruelly and stripped all ownership of the animals from the owners, reported Mike Bass, the assistant director of Code Compliance and Animal Services in Arlington.
The city of Arlington now has custody of the more than 27,000 exotic animals seized from the wholesale business on December 15.
Municipal judge Michael Smith ruled Tuesday that U.S. Global Exotics "cruelly treated" the animals by confining them for extended periods of time without necessary food, water and veterinary care.
The SPCA and other volunteers are now caring for the animals at an undisclosed location. An SPCA official says it costs several thousand dollars daily to care for the animals, which includes turtles, snakes, lizards and many species of mammals.
Authorities raided the north Arlington business based on an undercover investigation by PETA. The city said it confiscated nearly 26,900 live animals such as lizards, snakes, fish, hamsters and frogs, but it also took out 603 dead animals.
About 4,000 animals have died since being removed. The SPCA blames existing health conditions and said the death rate has slowed greatly in recent days.

U.S. Global Exotics sold the animals over the Internet to buyers around the world.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow 4000 animals died while since being removed on December 15th, that's like 190 dead animals a day. I wonder what kind of proper care and veterinary treatment the animals were given :ack2:

If this is anything like the pit bull raids all of those animals will be long dead before they can even attemnpt to get them back.

This sets a dangerous president for whosalers and keepers alike. There was a person busted for many animals and was charged with animal cruelty for every snake in the freezer. As he did not have a vet report on every animal.Clean out your freezers if you have any dead snakes.

From Jasen:

Dear friends and colleagues of the pet industry,

Before continuing, I know you are all busy trying to make ends meet and
get through your busy day. I know you may look at this email and say "
oh it is too long to read now, I'll read it later" HOWEVER I URGE you to
not lose concentration at this moment in time as what I am about to tell
you is so CRITICAL to your future, you simply do not want to ignore what
I have to say. Please read on.
As you are probably all aware US Global Exotics Inc was raided on
December 15th 2009 by the city of Arlington with the direct assistance
of PETA. Our company was infiltrated by one of their people for almost 8
months and over this period of time (and no doubt many months prior in
the form of their support staff); began to formulate a case and plan to
put me, my family and my employees out of business.

Their timing was no coincidence as they focused on their goal to
heighten their media exposure by stepping up their assault on our
industry and our way of life. They do this right around the same time
they are formulating bills in congress to put a stop to our industry in
general with the likes of bills S373 and S669. You don't think "the
largest animal seizure in US history" has not got the politicial ears in
Washington poised to hear what our adversaries have to say?

At this moment in time we have had a ruling by a city judge that ALL
27000 animals were treated cruelly and have as a result been given to
various "humane" groups for care until the appeal process is complete.
Although I do not want to spend this email going over the case and the
shocking details of what this all means, a very important link you
should visit soon to get familiar with our side of the story and the
DEEP repercussions is detailed below:

PJBoosinger.com <http://pjboosinger.viviti.com/>

Many would have heard all the one sided opinions reported by the media
and the slanted story that simply leaves out almost all of the facts.
Some of you may be wondering what really happened. Sensationalism is all
the media seems to care for now which helps them sell advertising and
generate profits however our time has now come to start telling our side
of the story.

THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We have today set up an account that is driven using Paypal that is
designed to help fund a defense for our case. The process to defend and
appeal is expensive and right now we need the ENTIRE industry's input
into this cause. Together with this mail is the blog and link from
independent organizations who are 100% behind our fight. They will
manage the fund for this fight and work to set up a permanent donating
fund to help defend these types of cases in the future.

Love us, like us or hate us, believe me; this case is more about our
industry as a whole rather than about US Global Exotics individual fight
however the first real battle for our survival and YOURS starts right
here and right now!

Our industry is under REAL assault and has been for many years prior.
Extremist groups such as PETA have for too long gone in and turned
people's lives upside down without too much difficulty. Somehow they get
local government behind them (donations of large amounts at
opportunistic times seems to be an effective and preferred way just
recently) so they have quick and unrelenting power. Because of fear and
lack of financial resources, most victims targeted walk away from all
their years of hard work feeling thankful that they ("the humane ones")
only stopped at taking their livelihoods and all they ever worked and
dreamed of and not also their freedom.

As you read this email you are going to have to dig deep into your heart
and soul and decide whether or not you want to see this industry survive
or be taken down by a group of people who have completely different
values than we do. This fight has come to the front lines because, if
they can do this to me and my family, not one person in our industry is
safe. If our caging, our methods, our facility, and our husbandry are
considered cruel, don't be surprised if you and your business are next!
For those people who actually got to see our facility will tell you we
had one of the best. These are not my words but words of many over the
years who have visited.
Based on this fact and based on the fact we followed industry guidelines
(which the judge acknowledged in his ruling and which he decided was
insufficient) that are proven methods of good husbandry practice, the
end is VERY near if this case if not fought and won. We spent more than
$200000 in professional caging and equipment and did not spare the cost
of getting the best of the best. We simply wanted to run a good live
animal wholesale operation.

For those not directly involved in the pet industry but got this mail
from friends or family asking for your support, don't think this
movement ends here. There is a fundamental war of ideology going on
right now that is about to explode as these radical groups get more
traction. Every win gives them more funding and more courage to take it
to the next level. Targets now such as pet exotic animals may seem
inconsequential to many however the use of animals in general at all
levels of human life is on their radar for destruction.

Today and tomorrow we need a commitment. I am offering you mine to fight
not only for myself but for you and our industry as well. The problem is
I cannot do it alone.

Don't put off going to the link to donate. Don't say I'll do it later
because you probably won't. Don't say you can't spare something because
right now you cannot afford not to spare something. Give as much as you
can. If your company had a good day, week or year so far, give
accordingly. If things are tight, just dig as deep as you can and give
what you are able. The key is PLEASE GIVE at http://aodefense.viviti.com
<http://aodefense.viviti.com/> .

This could be a turning point for us all or just another large nail in
the coffin for our industry. Which one it becomes is now in your hands
together with every other friend and colleague on this broadcast.
If you believe in this cause then do not stop with your own donation.
Get the word out to your family and friends and explain to them that
this will affect you therefore you need their help too! Tell your
customers and encourage them to donate too.
This is a case of numbers donating something, not a case of a few
donating large lump sums (although that is encouraged too!).

I want to thank you for reading this right through and for taking this
as seriously as it needs to be taken. I will be sending you updates as
things progress and doing my best to help keep our industry a thing of
the future and not a thing of the past.

Thanks for your support.

Best regards
Jasen and Vanessa Shaw
US Global Exotics Inc.

Quite frankly I think the conditions the animals were found in were as described and as in the opinion of the judge, cruel and inhumane conditions. Now don't get me wrong, maybe that's not how it was all the time, maybe it was just an off day, but that's the day they chose to raid the place and that's what they took photos of.

I've been to a lot of wholesale shops in my time, some big places and some small places. I can honestly say that maybe two to four out of ten operated within what I would call the standards. That's less than 50%. And what I refer to by simple standards is clean water, clean environment, fresh feed, proper lighting, proper equipment. I'm very observant, because when it came to my customers purchasing the best it meant my obtaining from the best.

And whats this crap about an infiltration? You have a multimillion dollar business and you don't simple employment screenings? Background checks and such? References? I seriously have to doubt this company even required an application to be filled out let alone sitting down for a face to face interview with the owner.

No, I just don't agree with this at all. I don't think all of the animals were mistreated, but there was enough there being neglected and has been accurately described and presented to the court.

You have 2000+dead iguanas sitting in containers because that's the way they arrived? OK, so what are you doing with them? Why are they still in the boxes? Why aren't they being disposed of? If they are going to be disposed of, where are they being disposed? Are we waiting for someone to dig a whole to bury them in? Are they being incinerated? Other than them just sitting there stinking up the joint, WTF is being done by anyone to get them out of there?

Nothing seems to be in order here with this company, it all seems to be a wreck, like somebody forgot that they were actually dealing with live animals, living breathing animals that depend upon you for the absolute best care like you depend on them surviving long enough so you can make a profit.

Look, you do what guy want to do but I would not go in with this guy and send a dime of your money unless you got to see all the pictures and tour the facility exactly as it was when it was raided. I would want to see veterinarian records and receipts and charts and review the employee procedures and policies and all that other good stuff. Treat this solicitation of support as though you were going to become his partner. Because I'll tell you, by supporting his fight without any real knowledge either way, you are effectively agreeing he is right and partnering to his problems with the court.

I love this hobby, but I'd rather lose it and know that I always stood on the right side of it and did the right thing and acted the right way. I'd be god-damned if I'd support that person knowing very well he could be wrong and just so that I could have what I wanted and not see it taken away from me. I'd have a face and a name to put to the person who laid the screws on me and took away what I enjoyed doing for a hobby or a business.

You know why this crap doesn't happen in hobbies like trains and those little electric race cars ans such? BECAUSE THEY DONT :censored: crap in a cage and breathe and eat and rely on you to stop what you're doing and take care of those things before it becomes too much and then someone else starts noticing you have so much on your plate to deal with and then they start seeing you as irresponsible and greedy and they want to stop you. For christ sake, stop yourself!!! Take on what you can handle, scale back when you have too much. Hire someone and take less of a paycheck or take the big bucks and remember what your responsibility is and why you started doing this in the first place.

They are living breathing animals. They have the same right to live as any animal on this earth does. Come on....we put a guy in jail for life for kidnapping a person. We do nothing to the guy that shoots or poisons cats and dogs in his backyard for kicks. We got a guy that carjacks an old woman on her way home from grocery shopping and he gets 15 years in prison. Another guy steals a snake in a bag out of a guys truck while he's getting a cup of coffee and then beheads it because he didn't know what he was stealing. That guy gets nothing.

Maybe this just needs to get taken away from us so we can start over. new rules, new regulations. something has to give.

I am sorry, the "machine" won't let me give you any more karma.:(

I agree 100% I HATE emotional laden appeals.

I'm sorry to read this post(s) from you two, Chuck and Deborah. They are both not well thought out for either the individual situation nor the scope of things that could become of this issue (along with afew other posts). If neither of you care that much for the hobby of keeping exotic tarantulas, lizards, snakes, birds, tortoises, fish, etc., and you are just fine with a world of only dogs and cats for pets, that is certainly your perogative. But it is not conducive to a productive discussion of both sides of the issue to rant on what you are thankful to know is right and wrong, and judge others by your standards that have as of yet been shared with the rest of the class....

I for one, may not have cared for some aspects of the conditions at US Global, and would approve of other conditions there, but overall feel that supporting this person starts a leg up of support for the hobby in general and I can justify sending a few bucks or more if that is all he asks. We live in a country that uses others as examples to build any case on, good or bad, and it all starts somewhere.

All I would ask of anyone posting is that if you make a point of something, please cite an example or otherwise show what you base your opinion on instead of blank inflammatory statements. I visited the location a time or two, and trust a few other people I know who have been there, and from that small collective is what I gather my views from.
