Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm incubating some leo eggs at 82*. I read online the humidity is supposed to be 80-90%. I setup my incubator and it was at 40% then I put in a water dish and it went up to 60%. I then added another water dish and it's up to 65%. :( I can't manage to get it any higher than that . I searched online and on fauna and all I found is to add a water dish which I already did I have two in the incubator. My incubator is a Hovabator. Can anyone recommend any suggestions on what else I can do to increase the humidity?

Are your eggs just laying in the bottom of your incubator with dishes of water around them?
If so, that might be your problem. Try using a deli cup(with a lid) with a damp substrate. There are a bunch of recipes on line for incubation mediums. Just do a quick google search.

No, lol. My eggs are inside a container with a lid and as a substrate I'm using damp perlite.

That's how I tried to hatch my first eggs too. I found out that Hovabators work great for chicken eggs but suck for reptile eggs.

Go get a little tubaware container with a lid. Get some good medium like perlite or vermiculite (WalMart sells perlite in the garden section). Dampen it and put a couple inches in the bottom of the container. Bury the eggs halfway in the medium, or all the way if they're dehydrated, and mist only the walls of the container (never the eggs directly).
You can poke tiny holes in the lid if you won't be opening the top at least once a week.

Leo eggs are easy to hatch :D Good luck! The babies are so cute.

I kinda like my hovabators. They have worked very well for me.

You could mist the lid of the cup, also. That will increase humidity, but if your eggs look good, I wouldn't mess around too much.

Hovabators have a good rep,are affordable, and breeders use them succesfully. I'm using damp perlite and have them in a deli cup w/ lid. The container has small holes in it. I've hatched day gecko eggs before at room temp though, so it's my first time with an incubator. I can't wait for them to hatch. Thanks for the info!

So far the humidity isn't affecting the eggs, but I just wanted to get the humidity up to what it's supposed to be at. If it doesn't make too much of a deal then I will leave it how it is. Now it's at 70% and I just mist the lids so hopefully it goes up a bit more. Thanks for the info! :)

Keep in mind, the humidity in the incubator is not important, the humidity in the container is. I used Hovabators for years and hatched out thousands of gecko eggs in them. I used vermiculite and incubated my eggs in deli cups with all but one of the small airholes covered with tape.

Kelli,

That's what I was wondering about the humidity. I have never heard anything bad about using the Hovabator for reptile eggs. Thanks! :)

I agree with Kelli, I used those for years before I converted a restaraunt fridge. I prefered vermiculie over perlite, dampened it before the eggs went in, covered them 2/3 and sealed the Tupperware and let them be. As Long as I saw condensation around the bottom I let it be. If I needed I misted around the edges. Opened lids once a week for circulation. Presto! Babies!
