    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I hate to have to be doing this again, for a couple of reasons, but here's the short story. YES, I am posting quickly...NO, I am not waiting for attempts at resolution or deception.

Jerry posted an ad for a couple of pieds last week...I happened to be online when they were posted. The ads were his first posts here, but it wasn't a brand new account (registered 8/29/99). I checked him out - admittedly going so far as to check his IP info, comparing it against other users and recent scamming trends (He had no trader rating or BOI threads).

My next step was to contact him - via email (as requested in the ad), then PM (he was still online, so I notified him of the email). One of the things I requested was a new picture of the snake on a piece of paper, with the message For sale on FaunaClassifieds, his name, and the date. I received that within 15 minutes, and he posted that pic in the ads (he did this for the male and female).
There were a few more quick emails, a price was agreed upon, and a shipping date was offered by Jerry. Yesterday was that day. No snake arrived today. I have received no response from Jerry since the day I made payment, but he's been checking in here semiregularly...the last time being yesterday at 5:32pm (so he was online, and could have contacted me if there had been a problem)
The lack of communication is what spurred the quick post.

Unfortunately, this event probably made it just that much harder for the small breeder. I know that I won't be purchasing from anybody I don't know personally...unless they have an incredible reputation, and/or a reference list that includes people whose opinion I trust.

Jerry will be notified of this thread immediately upon its submission. He may/may not show up here...in the meantime -
prospective buyers, BEWARE!

Harold... I hope this doesn't turn out to be another scammer!! I'm one of those small town hobbiests but have been lucky with my sales in the last month or so and haven't had any issues as of yet!! I hate it when this happens because it makes us little guys look horrible!! I just hope this can get resolved in a hurry and if this guy is a true scammer that he gets what's coming to him!!! :( I'm sorry you had to go through this... You took the chance and it looks as though you landed on the rocks below!! I hope that's not the case!! Let us know if something changes!! Thanks for posting this though... That's what's so great about this Board!!

Just noticed a typo in my original post...Jerry's account was registered 8/29/09, not 99.

Still no contact, and no response to the PayPal dispute (which has been elevated to a claim).
Thankfully, I remembered to switch the payment method to credit card, so getting my money back shouldn't be a big issue if PayPal drops the ball. It's just incredibly disappointing (and frustrating) that this crap has become so prevalent in the reptile world.

No comment about why he hadn't responded to my past two emails. For the record, I didn't say I didn't want to ship on Monday as he'd suggested...here's the email I sent him on Sunday:

I just looked at the local forecast for the week.
Monday night high 20s
Tues + Wed night, low 30s
Thurs night, high 30s

I don't know your level of experience with shipping, so I don't want to overstep my bounds here. Shipping can be done safely at these temps, if you have any questions, just ask. (My expectation is, of course, that she arrive alive and healthy...) If you aren't comfortable shipping at those temps, I have no problem waiting for a warmer day - like TH.

I'm not going to reverse the dispute with PayPal until I have her in my hands, but I would like nothing more than to end this thread on a happy note. Time will tell.
 
It takes some mighty cojones to try and scam a mod... But I guess it goes to show you can't always trust a transaction even when you have to power to check IP addresses.
 
Well, things have taken an interesting turn....Since the last email I posted (Jerry saying he would ship on Monday), I have received a few more messages from him:

I ship through shipyourreptiles.com and they ship through ups. I have a shipment lined up if that still works. Fedex requires a license and the branch in lansing, mi said they will not ship pythons. I can still ship today nif ups works

Of note here is that the above email was sent at 08:27, and I responded at 09:34...offering him a couple of options (he could ship her to be held at UPS for me to pick up, he could turn her over to one of the people I know in MI + refund $50 for shipping, or he could refund my payment - in full - via PayPal. A couple hours later, I sent him another email, stating that I felt it was best not to involve anybody else; so he could ship or refund)
Did he ship?
No...but he sent another email at 01:12 today (Wed), stating

Just to make sure - you are not sending to that address....you are having the package held for pickup at that address. There should be a box to check for that option, then you will have to input the address.
If you just plug it in as a delivery address, it will go on a truck and ride around all day.

So, Jerry (if that's your real name), what's the deal? By the time you sent him that email, you had sent me 6 emails, so I doubt you just couldn't think of my name...hell, you had sent me one less than 10 minutes before you responded to Tom! Then you state, after having my money for 11 days, that she has been sold to somebody else?

I disagree.

It takes no balls, guts or conjones or eggs or even brains to scam anyone. Anyone can scam...it takes guts to stay honest and provide good customer service in these times.

Weak, weasly liars scam and steal because they don't have the guts to be straight up and honest.

Well, I just got a tracking number: UPS: 1Z14W5620197737646
This will come in just under the wire for the PayPal claim - he has til 3/20 to respond to them.
I'll be taking my camera to the UPS hub.

Not sure why Jerry hasn't posted here, I know hes been on the site a few times since this thread is posted...maybe he'll see fit to comment after the package arrives & I make whatever comment seems appropriate. (I'd still like for it to be a sincere apology, but can't quite bring myself to hope for it at this point.)
