If you comb through the python classifieds on here you have probably come across my ads. My name is Greg Bryant and own The Retic Ranch (no relation to Joe).
I ordered what he had advertised as a 5 foot white phase albino retic for $200.00 plus shipping. I Paypaled him $260.00 for the animal.
At around 1 o'clock this afternoon I received a package from FedEx that contained a snake bag, crumbled up newspaper, plastic bubble wrap, and NO SNAKE. I am goping to hold off on calling him a Bad Guy, for now. I am going to see how he handles this.
I inspected the bag to see where it wasn't closed all the way and there is an "airhole" in the box large enough that a snake could have pushed his way through. I also noticed that he sent the animal 2 day, not overnight!
I tried calling him several times and keep getting his voice mail. When I texted him he responded saying "Theres no way he was pakaged so good was the boxed sealed".
I have already filed a dispute with Paypal (not sure how much good that will do me).
I have included pics of the box that was shipped to me, the way it was packed, the gap in the bag, the hole in the side of the box, and the shipping label that states it was shipped 2 day.
Joseph Bryant of Carlinville IL do the right thing and refund the money and please learn how to pack animals before doing something like this again!

Wow.... I think that's one of the worst shipping conditions I've seen. I feel bad for the WP lost in transit :( I agree with Greg, refund his money and mark this as a lesson learned.

Let me clear my last sentence up.

Joe, you need to refund Greg's money and mark this as a lesson learned.

That has got to be one of the worst animal packaging jobs I have ever seen. No styrofoam inserts, and that box definitely does not have the crush strength needed to transport living things.

Was it even marked 'Live Harmless Reptiles', or something to that effect?

Joe, with the proposed ban this is how you ship a snake? Letting a python escape in transit does not help our cause. I say this to everyone... If you're not sure or not comfortable how to ship a snake seek help and don't ship a snake unless you are positive you're doing it correctly. There wasn't even any insulation, I don't know what the weather is like their but it doesn't matter, insulation is always a must. I hope you do the right thing Joe and as for the python running loose I only hope someone who's an enthusiast finds it and doesn't report it.

It was marked "Caution" and "Handle With Care". I believe he sent it, the box was marked at 5lbs, but I also believe it is now somewhere between here and IL.

Its hard to tell from pics, but it looks like the box was used before. (Not that's its a bad thing, but it looks like a box for a lamp or somethin :ack2:) was there even a heat pack in the box?

the box ws lined with bubble wrap in a snake bag three wire ties i couldnt pull the bag apart with my hands i weigh 215 and work out
in the fourth pic you can see the outline of the snake in the bag plenty of waded news paper. and te air holes were made with a small knive tiny slits there no way the snake could of gotten out. was even has 200 insurance
and that hole was not in the box when it left

We can see the bag is tied very tight... to bad you didn't close it when it was tied. In the 4th pic, I just see an empty bag leaning over Gregs leg to get a pic of your mess up. the air holes were used by a small knife? Or a small hammer? Those holes are massive, if your version of a small knife is a bayonett then yes, it would appear so. Btw, you can't insure a live animal, so you shipped it illegally? :NoNo:

It sounds like you're saying that Greg is lying. Why would you cut air holes in the box anyway? You need to learn how to package a snake properly before you ship again. Watch the video at www.shipyourreptiles.com please. The insulating styrofoam serves multiple purposes and one of those is a brace to make the box stronger. bubble wrap is not sufficient for insulation or strength. Bottom line is that you packaged the animal poorly and should be giving the buyer a refund. Also, I hate to tell you but if the shipping company realizes how you packed the animal they probably won't pay out on the insurance company and may be able to fine you.

Joe, The bag is on my knee...no snake in there. I was trying to get a good angle to show to gap, and if you take a look the wire ties are still on the bag (I never touched them). The hole in the box could have been made larger in shipping by either getting snagged or from the snake pushing, but if it were properly lined odds are the snake would still be in there (unless the box got really abused during shipping). Bubble wrap is by no means proper lining for shipping an animal. Joe I produce quite a few retics and do this as my sole source of income. I am not going to jeopardize my reputation by making false claims.
You know if you would have shipped the animal overnight (the way they should be) it would have cut the odds of him escaping in half.

Another question Greg, in the pics, the hole looks pushed in. Is that the way it was when you got it?

that is the way I found it. Once I realized there was no snake in there I didn't mess with box, but did inspect the bag to see where the hole was (but didn't undo the zip ties).

those air holes were small enough that a baby couldnt get out and this was a five foot python it had double bubble wrap all sides plenty of news paper and pacaged with more than enough packaging tape even if the snake got out of he could not of gotton out of box. and the box was maked on all sides with handle with care and fragile. no heat pack its 77 degreess and only warmer the closer you get to fl. I like how he puts it on here before he talked to me and every one so quick to jump done my ass. and that snake bag had three wire ties and was checked three times twice by me and onc bye wife

So you think the strength of a baby is the same as that of a 5ft retic? Who's notorious for being a "nose pusher"? Ok... even if its 77 lows, how cold is it 30k feet in the air? Oh... it wasn't over night shipping... I like how your avoiding the question of shipping illegally.

Air holes?

You might "work out" but you're still a dummy.

I tried calling you a few times. When I texted you you texted back that "theres no way he was pakaged so good was the box sealed". Prior to that the last I had ard from you was that you were going to send me a tracking number, that never happened. I have been a member for a little while now and have never started a thread here on the BOI and notice I didn't call you a Bad Guy. I am saying it was not properly packed and the animal escaped.
I paid for an animal and never received it. It was not properly packed and was shipped 2 day both of which contributed to the animal escaping. I am not calling you a scammer, what I am saying is you as the shipper did not fullfil your obligation and I should be reimbersed.
