• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

has anyone ever gotten in trouble for shipping fedex for not being certified? I used to ship SYR but now that they dont accept snakes I dont know what to do. I have a shipment that needs to go out today and getting certified takes forever. I am shipping instate(texas to texas)
 
I have been in trouble for receiving snakes from an unapproved shipper.

I got a call from the local Fed Ex saying I needed to come pick up my package. When I get there they say they know what's in the box and they will destroy the snakes and eggs because the shipper was not certified. They kept ranting about it being illegal and I had to set them straight about that one. Against policy yes, illegal no. They called corporate and left a message with their lawyer. They told me he would call right back. After 2 hours of waiting, I called corporate and had to beg and plead for my snakes. They finally released them after I promised to never ship or receive without approval.

I don't recommend anyone ship without approval.
 
Doing so requires that you go "stealth". No indications that the contents are live. There are posts in the archives from somebody that got nailed for doing that - it's a violation of federal law. I'm sure you've heard of the Lacey Act, even if you aren't familiar with it (It has popped up regularly in the SYR threads). Take the week or two to get certified, instead of risking screwing things up for the rest of us...your customer will understand. (Maybe he won't, but is it worth the possibility of having to deal with Federal charges? Are you making enough on that sale to cover the fine...or even pay the lawyer?)

All it takes is one little rustle to alert somebody that something isn't right...at that point, you're lucky if they just hold the shipment & require you to come get it (they aren't required to do that, btw)

OMG, They wouldn't really have the right to destroy the snake/eggs would they??

And as far as shipping and not being certified. That's your butt on the line and I wouldn't do it. No one could need a snake that bad, or at least I wouldn't think lol:shrug01:

So does a FedEx certified shipper have any recourse if an employee didn't know about the shipping waiver and destroyed a presumed illegal snake being shipped by a certified FedEx reptile shipper?
 
In spite of their claims, they would only have the right to turn the animal over to a shelter or wildlife rescue, not 'destroy' it.
 
Actually, I believe they have the right to shelf the box & take no action - which would still result in the animal's death.

Get certified and reschedule the shipment. ;)

The argument could be made that if they were aware a live animal was in the box, and shelved it, they could be prosecuted for cruelty to animals. I doubt they would leave themselves open to that.

Yes but you would have to prove that they we're aware that there was an animal in the box. There goes money to the lawyers, money to the court system, money for whatever they charge you for shipping illegally, etc. When its all said and done just pay the $40 or however much it is to ship it to the testing plant, they send your box back for free. I've heard it takes a while and I'm currently waiting for my certification, I passed but now I've been waiting a week for the legal paperwork.
 
Fed Ex pays for the box to be shipped to the testing lab and ships it back for free as well.
They didn't pay for the box to be shipped for me, but who knows maybe they do either way it doesn't cost that much to insure you don't lose a snake in the mail by not being certified.

If you ask they will give you the account number to bill your box to. I am not sure if they offer to pay but I have had to go through it twice now and they have paid both times.
