In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Can my monitor eat bologna, and turkey and chicken i buy from the deli, he wouldnt eat yesterday so i threw in a peice of bologna and it was gone in the morning... is that alright or no.

I would highly advise against it, the packaged foods we buy are full of preservatives that have no business going into a lizards gut. Stick with insects (lots of them), turkey (raw or cooked), frozen/thawed rodents (in moderation), cooked chicken eggs (again in moderation), and fresh quail eggs are nice too.

Um no. No. No. No. No.

WHOLE PREY ITEMS ONLY!

If a monitor doesn't eat or doesn't eat consistently it's husbandry related usually. Which you did not answer my questions in your previous thread.

Human food is for humans. Lets keep it that way.

Bugs, rodents. That's all it should be eating. Many would disagree but there is nothing scientifically proven or long term keeper proven that a primary or all rodent diet is bad. If the husbandry /cage is proper and proper meals are given there's no ill effects on the animal. And that's based off my keeping monitors for 18 years. 98% of that time being a 100% all rodent diet.

But you're starting off bad already. Bologna? Seriously?
There's 0 nutritional value in that for one and you just fed it a pure fat (bad fats to) meal. Not to mention it will probably have diarrhea. How do you think you'd feel and look if you were fed nothing but a pure fat drink for a meal???

You can feed crickets, roaches, wax /mealworms, superworms and rodents. You can also feed sea food but it MUST be whole UNCOOKED. Whole shrimp, crawfish, smelt, mackeral. Healthy fishes. NO GOLD FISH OR CATFISH.

If you're having a hard time getting it to eat a live pink or fuzzy mouse then dip it in a little bit of raw egg and give it or prick it in the body or head and let a little blood out. I guarantee you it will disappear.

Well Dustin, you asked for advice, and you got it. It's completely up to you whether to take it, or the advice of your 'guy' with 20+ years of experience. Best of luck.

He started eating crickits just as of late, the guy i bought him from must of scammed me, he threw up after eating them, all of them came up... he must of sold me one with a diesease or something... the only reason i tried bolgona is becuz people said they eat human food all the time and he wouldnt eat anything else..... I've been talking to alot of people with experience and im going to call a guy in town see why hes been puking and if he can take him and see whats wrong with him

He's probably puking because you fed him JUNK. How long have the savahannas of those "experienced people" lived for? Are they obese? Do the even move?
You can look up a CARESHEET and know what to feed a Savannah, they AREN'T good starting monitors either, you should've done your research before you obtained one and already made it sick. He probably wasn't eating before cuz he hasn't acclimated and probably doesn't have proper housing either. Just because they WILL eat eat doesn't mean they SHOULD be eating it, Dogs would love to eat cholcolate, you wanna feed your dog some? (chocolate is TOXIC to dogs)
I've been watching Christine TRY to help you.
Don't come asking for help if you're just going to deny it, and keep treating the animal poorly.
Give it to someone who CAN take care of it.

I'm willing to throw money down now and bet that animal is being house VERY poorly. Inconsistent eating and now regurgitating. Poor little monitor and at this point it's survival is looking really grim.

I've been very plain and simple and told you exactly, to the letter what you needed to feed it and now you're still willing to take the advice of an unknown person who "has 20 years of experience". My experience is proven a thousand times over in my monitors even breeding and producing hatchlings which all went to good homes.

I bet the animal is to cold and probably really little. So you not only stuff it with, what was it ........... 30 crickets I think you said then you feed it bologna. No wonder it puked. Little ones cannot pack away a lot of food, especially unhealthy food living in poor conditions and keep it down. Not even adult monitors can take that at times.

Savannah are the worst starter species because people tend to think they're garbage can and can "eat anything" and are lazy. This is a complete opposite to fact. As already stated.

Since you're clearly unwilling to provide me with the requested information then I at this point am unwilling to further help you. You didn't get scammed. You're just a poor - inexperienced keeper. The sad part is your monitor will now suffer and die because of it. Don't you dare blame the seller for your negligence.

guy that has 20 years of experience told me to put cod liver oil capsuls in his food, along with feeding him ground beef

Is that "experience" good or bad? In my experience, just because someone has been dealing with reptiles for a long time doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're doing. Longevity does not guarantee wisdom. I say, go ask this "guy" how long his savannah monitors usually live. If his answer is like a few years, then he's full of it. A healthy monitor should thrive for well over a decade.

I strongly advise checking out this caresheet: http://proexotics.com/care_savannah.html
