Bugs in my rat food

I have found tiny beetle like thing in my rat chow/seed mix. I'm not sure what to do about them. Should I throw it out and start over? I thought about bagging it up in small bags and freezing it as I can't fit a 50# bag in my freezer. I have bug sprayed around the walls a few weeks ago before I found them, so as they get out they are dying.
I guess I will buy smaller bags in the future. I have never had this happen before.

thanks,

Steph

what i always do when i get birdseed or any other food for my ASF's, i always freeze it for 48 hours in the coldest part of the fridge. freezing it for that long will kill any bugs and any eggs. unless the food is bad or eated away by the bugs, dont waste it

Oh man, those things are awful! I had them until I realized they were living in my fish food. I would throw the food out and next time keep it in a sealable container. I haven't had a problem since. God those things are awful...

Catch22
They sound like some type of pantry beetles same kind that come out of the dry goods from store people eat. Theres about 10 different kinds but they all do about same thing. The eggs are laid when they harvest whatever the food is made out of we bring the food home into a warm house and they hatch out. Then they keep reproducing in the food. Freezing will kill them out but keeping food in sealed containers will help from them spreading to the rest of house.

Thanks for all the tips. I went ahead and tossed what I had left and am buying smaller bags so I can freeze and seal them.
