question on building a rack system

We have an old bookshelf (cheaper one from walmart) that I thought about trying to turn into a rack system instead of throwing it out. Anyone have any good ideas on how to change it to something useful. Also, where can I get a thermostat at a reasonable price as well as the heat tape?? I will be housing kings and pythons on this.......

I get my tape from bean farm, they're the cheapest I found, wires from home depot or lowes and my thermostats from the classifieds here and I found one at show.

Test your extension cords before using, I got some from the dollar store that were supposed UL listed but when I hooked my toaster up I almost burned my house down. Really glad I was hungry.

Are you thinking of back heat or belly heat?

I am thinking back heat but not sure which would be easiest.....

Back heat is easier, example - if you have six levels two tubs per level back heat would be easier because you'd only have two strips to wire. Probably why it's so prevalent in the market. I prefer belly heat for my snakes.

Don't be afraid to solder, it's fun

There's a few places with good reps that will wire it for you, but you have to buy the cords and connector sets from them along with the tape.

And unless this has been moved it looks to me like you posted the ? in the right spot.
