    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So, is anyone else tired of seeing two or three sellers trying to prove who has/is the biggest penis by trying to one up the other with 10, 12, or 13+ ads posted in a row? They effectively take up the entire first page and continue to bump when their ads drop to the lower half.

Personally, besides making themselves look like immature, insecure little children their lack of professionalism and common courtesy has earned them a spot on my "do not buy from" list.

Anyone else find this behavior annoying, or am I the only one who would like to see the placement of ads restricted to 3 or 4 per day per user? :shrug01:
 
It does seem pretty silly

I think that it would get pretty time consuming as well.
I also think it is a bad sales tactic. So many bps for sale by what seems like lots of people... could be a counter productive way of marketing :confused: , but they would all have to agree with that logic in order reduce their ads.
I do think 3 a day is enough for most people (too much like KS), but maybe 5 would be better.
 
Sam, there are two, maybe three, threads going on about this problem... so no, it's not just you that sees it as abuse.
 
Amazing how your ad can get bumped to the end of page 3 in one day when really only 2 other people posted ads since yours. :rolleyes:
 
I was just going to create a thread about this very subject when I found this. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I get tired of looking at the same ads over and over. It makes me stay away from this site actually.

Its not as if one doesn't see the same ads over and over on other sites...at least not the ones I have visited.
 
But at least it's not the same 50 ads by the same 2 or three people all the time!!!

True enough - I'll admit that I am not well acquainted with the various reptile classifieds. I advertise, and look, here & at KS. KS has a much higher # of ads posted daily in the categories I visit, and they limit the number of ads that can be placed...but it is still the same 60 ads placed by the same 20 people.

There are some obvious differences in the way advertising works on the two sites - perhaps more obvious after one has utilized each one...but I guess that really isn't our specific topic, lol. Anyway, Rich has stated that, as a whole, he thinks the classifieds aren't heavily utilized...and, as such, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to place limits on the people that ARE utilizing them. From that perspective, I agree. I don't like opening a section and seeing a wall of ads from a single user, either; but I can scan past them just as easily here as anyplace else.

Some people have called for limitations on the number of ads somebody can place in a day...but who is that going to impact the most? The person that pays $25/yr, the person that pays $100/yr, or the person that pays $250/yr? Even if the limit is set at 3/day for a Contributing member, 6 for a Benefactor member, and 10 for an Endowment member, most of the volume advertisers would not be impacted significantly.

Don't get me wrong, I am not attempting to discourage discussion on this topic...I just think it should include more than a personal/professional dislike for an individual. I know there are people that don't like the situation - let's break it down to why, and address it constructively

truth is classifieds do not get enough traffic..so we are all stuck in a strange situation..of course no one here likes rickster..but on the same note we cant bash him for what he has purchased..seems we are all angry at whom he associates with and use this forum to bash at him instead of finding a way to ALL work together and drive visitors /members etc to this site..lets face it guys there ar 2 super powers in the reptile advertisement world..king snake and fauna...fauna seems to have mostly smaller suppliers and those who have been banished from king snake..when i post adds on kingsnake i get 2-3000 views a month on each add..here i get 2-300 a month..seems to me we need to find a way to get more attention to this site then we all will get what we want from it...

like others have said king snake as well has the same adds over and over but there ar 20 times the adds..i have tried many ways to put my adds up..i have now compiled them all to 1 add (ballpython section)however by the end of the day im on page 3 and only got 1 view..when i list several adds i got several views...basically what this board needs is more sellers in the classifieds section..this may seem strange coming from someone who sells animals here but lets face it..the more sellers we have the more buyers we have as well...

some sections here nobody post any adds in so no one looks in there either..
we as sellers and member need to find a way to come together and make this board what it should be..especially those of us who make a living from breeding and selling reptiles..

i have considered buying larger links/banners here etc but i did not get any more hits to my web site when i purchased before..when you look at the classified sections you can see the sponsers and the amount of clicks/visits they have received and all are very low..this is not intented to bash the owners etc of fauna but if they could find a way to drive more customers here then more of us would be selling and buying here as well...

this is just my 2 cents worth

This is a tricky issue. As a non professional, I prefer the "one animal, one ad" format. If I am looking for a specific animal (which is always), I don't want to sort through someone's (often poorly) designed website, or feebly thought out format.

I realize the honor system is being abused, but DUH.

If I see an ad for the specific animal I am looking for, I will be much more inclined to view it, as opposed to "lots for sale, everything must go, see my website for pictures".

At this point, I am not proposing a solution, just helping to define the problem, as I see it.

this was also my point..as a buyer i prefer to see each animal or group sold seperately..however so i dont seem like others i listed my animals together therefore slowing my sales etc..there has to be a resolution to this problem..however i will have no choice but to sell my animals seperately from now on..however i will not post a wall of 8-10 adds at a time..it will be confined to 2-3 adds at a time

You are painting with an awfully broad stroke there...and making a pretty big (even if inaccurate) statement. I would guess that a fair portion of the membership does not even know who "the Rickster" is, and relatively few have any feelings whatsoever. Let's be honest, how many of them really know that Joe Capone is pushing his play button. IMO, you are giving them both a lot more credit than is due. Then again, anyone that does know just needs to look at his ads (Joe always did have ugly a$$ clowns, lol). Anyways, it is actually a very small group of people that has made an effort to bash him here.

True. I won't assume that others get the results that I do, but my ads on KS generate far more BS responses - heck, probably 10% of them do not even come from working emails; which I find out AFTER I have responded. I don't sell in large volume, and this is not my livelihood, but (so far) my ads here have resulted in more sales. Yes, I get more views & inquiries from KS...but I also waste far more time on nonbuyers and get more stupid, lowball offers, as well. And that doesn't even touch upon the BS scammer emails :ack2: . Ahh, the price of advertising to the masses.

I'm going to address jsrocket's response here, as well.
Of course, there are a number of ways to do things. PERSONALLY, I prefer the title of the ad to reflect what is inside - if it doesn't, or if it doesn't contain something in which I am interested, I just don't open it. And a generic "lots for sale, check my website" will very rarely get me to follow through and comply. As for the one animal/one ad format, it kind of depends on what the animals are. Since we are pretty specifically addressing the BP section, I'll use that as an example: If there are a variety of different morphs, then different ads might be the way to go - like I said before, I like the title to pretty much spell it out for me...but for a group of normal females??? Why waste the effort on them individually, especially if they are fairly close in size? I would much rather have the seller post that they have X number of females available, and show pics to choose from (even if that means having to follow the link to their site in order to see them all). Rather than see 10 ads posted by a seller, I think in many cases, they could combine a few of them (especially if there was some similarity, ie spider combos).

dont get me wrong..i was in no way standing up for rickster or bashing him this time :rofl:
this issue has been brought up way to many times and it only seems to make him worse :deadhorse

It's a catch-22. Sellers don't want to bother advertising until the traffic is here to see their adds. And buyers don't bother checking the classifieds (ie: "traffic") because the volume of ads there is not enough to bring them.

In this situation, the cycle can ONLY be broken by the sellers. They have to be the ones to post the volume of ads to give the prospective buyers a reason to come looking for the ads. The reverse just cannot sustain itself.

If you post the advertisements, they viewers will come. That is what will drive customers here and then to you. I, myself, cannot do that via any method I am aware of. If the sellers want traffic here, they have to provide the incentive to make that happen.

at kingsnake they are not allowed to post on anothers classifieds adds either so you cant really fault someone for that..

now if everyone were to leave rickster alone he wouldnt lock his threads but im sure someone here who loves him well would use that point to attack him..or perhaps we should remove this ability from all posters....after all we do have mods who could correct if there were people who mis-used the classifieds
