In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a female boa about 3 feet long and is about 1 1/2 yrs old. I moved her from one container where she was housed with another boa i thought MIGHT have resp. A day after moving her I noticed a lrge are a of skin (about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide). It looked as if she had been burned. However, I have her in a 50 gallon tank w/ a screen lid and a 75 watt bulb for heat. There is no way that bulb could have gotten the top of the screen THAT hot to burn her. Does anyone know of any parasite that could cause these same symptoms?? I'm really confused. It trys to dry out, but she stays in the water most of the time, I'm sure because it's painful. When it dries, it cracks open and bleeds a little. Anyone have ANY ideas.... and yes I'm taking her to the vet first thing Monday a.m.. Thanks for any input.

God Bless, Tony :shrug01:

Going to the vet is your best bet. If it is a burn, you'll need meds to fight off infections and such. You'll need some burn cream to keep it moist, and it's likely to take a long time to heal. Don't use over the counter burn treatments either. Some may contain aspirin type ingredients, and this will prove to be harmful to the snake. Let the vet give you the right stuff. You should keep the snake on a paper material so as to avoid substrate sticking to it. And you should clean it probably every other day while treating to avoid contamination issues. If it's a burn, and the snake is soaking a lot, you want to change that water probably daily as well.

Burns aren't like cuts or scrapes. They take a lot of work, and a long time to heal. They cause under lying problems, infections, and destroy tissue beyond repair at times. I've had 2 burn victims that I've rescued, and one of those I had to euthanize regardless of all that we did to save it.

Do you have a picture? Everything I said is based on a burn. May actually be something else. But don't skip the vet visit just because someone comes along and says "try this". ;)

Good luck
Rick

Thank You friend, I am using a generic brand Hemorrhoid medicine believe it or not. This was a suggestion from someone who just went through something similar and he was right, It is working beautifully!! Thanks again guys. Tony

I don't have a hard time believing it at all. I've heard some pretty scary stuff online before. I do however question it. Burns....hemorrhoids...not even close to the same ailment.

I just hope it all works out for the snake.

 ,if its confirmed as not being a "burn" the only other possibility is bacteria/fungus brought on by poor or insufficient/inadequate husbandry practices. These things dont just happen !
I would suggest treating it as "scale rot" and proceed towards a cure rather then alleviating a symptom. :NoNo:

My $.0¼
Twice daily you should flush the affected area and surrounding skin with Hydrogen Peroxide or Betadine and apply antibiotic ointment. While treating animal it should be afforded "Hospital Conditions"clean white paper towel strata with daily attention to any and all excrement(s) contamination, uniform temp/humidity levels(85-88*/50-60%)

Ideally a Vet visit would result in a proper diagnoses and proper treatment which would afford Superior results for the well being of the animal.

Best of Luck

I'm about done trying to advise people to do the right thing. Seems they'll just do what they want to anyway. :shrug01:

Let them learn the hard way like a lot of us have.

UUhh..Not really sure if thats directed towards me "personally" , but ....ok???

Anywho, I received your message. Thank you for your advice. Tony

Thank You EVERYONE for your input. Things are just wonderful with my boa and she is healing nicely!! I'm grateful for all the input. Thanks again, Tony

It was directed at you in this case, but more made as a general statement to ignorant people who don't want to spend the money to take their exotics for proper vet attention.

Owning an exotic is a responsibility, and sometimes it's a costly one. If you can't foot the bill, ask for payment plan or something. But taking a chance like you did is plain stupidity. Some over the counter meds can KILL your snake. I hope you never have to find that out the hard way.

If you are not willing to treat the animal to the proper attention it deserves, than you should not have the animal. Now THAT was directed at you. Take it how you will.

It's about the animals man.
Rick

Dear Rick..in this case your an idiot...had you taken the time to bother to ASK me..

if I had taken my snake to the vet, you would have learned I did. I was instructed BY MY VET that the meds he would have prescribed would have the same results over time as the cream I'm currently using. Just because YOU haven't heard of this doesn't mean it is a wrong type of treatment. You just need to become more aware of what really is going on with other peoples situations BEFORE you start to judge them.Take it as you will.

It's about common courtesy....man.

Yup, sounds like a Vet to me. You tell me, what else is one supposed to derive from that statement? You never said you have seen a vet. You said "Someone who just went through something similar"

Anyway, I DO hope it works.

Dear Richard, You are absolutely correct...I did say those exact...

words AND I took my boa to the vet the next day AND that is exactly what he told me. In that order. You just need to look at the dates of the threads and again just use a little common courtesy. Pick your battles...but be sure of what you say. Anyways, I am not angry with you just a little offended but I'm a big boy and I will get over it.....see already forgotten about it. Now group hugs for everyone. I asked for your advice ,you gave it to me, and I do appreciate it very much.
Sincerely,
Tony

What did the Vet call this issue ?
I would be interested in hearing how all this ties together ?
Rectal Remedies for Reptile rash

If you bothered taking the time to read the other ......

threads, you would have seen his diagnosis was a BURN. When you have tissue that has been burned by strong stomach acids or heat they BOTH produce the same thing... burnt tissue that is raw and very sensitive. The cream I use has a mild numbing agent as well as medication for the burn itself. It takes away the inflamation and promotes healing quicker because of the shark liver oil.If that makes no sense to you...you are also an idiot. Let me guess, now your gonna tell me you know more than a Vet who has 7 yrs of higher education..right??

FYI

I'm the person that gave Tony the advice to use the product that he did. I've worked in the chemical and bio-pharmaceutical industries virtually all of my life. My father was one of the top cosmetic chemists in the country and I learned quite a lot from him over the years. I consulted with Tony via PM and recommended this treatment for what I strongly suspected was a burn. It was the weekend and I told him to follow up with a vet visit afterwards to be sure it wasn't some type of bacterial or fungal infection since I could only go by his description and not see the damage firsthand.
There is absolutely nothing in Preparation H or it's generic version found anywhere that will harm a snake. I had an issue with a rather expensive Brazilian Rainbow boa morph and I cured a serious skin issue it developed in the same manner. For the nonbelievers, there's a fellow Fauna member here that can verify this. She saw the before and after effects and couldn't believe how well it worked. In my case, a few dollar tube of ointment cured a $1,000 + animal.
So instead of being critical you may just want to actually learn something here and even have a tube on hand. If worse comes to worse, you can always shove it up your :censored: :yesnod:

Ditto....and thank you Greg for the assistance. Tony

I can't believe the abusive, critical, aggreive people on this site and just think this only my first week here. LOL

I have no problem with anyone here as long as they treat me with the same respect I show them. I actually have a very good reputation here. I just loose my cool when I am attacked. Anyone else would be the same way. I just wish members would read ALL the threads before judging someone, whether it's a moderator or not. According to "Terms of Service" I can state may "Opinion" as long as it is well understood it's just that.. my opinion. I am begining to see who the antagonist are here in the forum. I will avoid them at all cost. And that my friend is "My opinion".

Thank You,
Tony
