In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Boa w/bad skin condition..I NEED HELP PLEASE!!

Let me attempt to clear this up.

You are on a public forum. You asked for help. BUT, you left out pertinent information, like, "I saw a vet on Monday, and they agreed with the treatment". Go back and read your own posts. They lead one to conclude that you did not see a vet, but merely went by someones advice. The vet tidbit didn't come out until after I jumped on you.

You also didn't mention Greg was the one who advised you. There are people out there with very little actual knowledge, that will gladly advise you to "try this stuff, it worked for me" not knowing what they are talking about. We see it all the time. THAT is what aggravated me enough to lash out like I did. Judging by your post's, this appeared to be the case, yet again. Had you mentioned Greg, I may have held my tongue a little better, as I know him to be fairly knowledgeable, whether I agree with him or not.

Now, I'm a big boy too. I can admit when I do wrong. And perhaps in this case I was a bit quick to react and not ask more questions. For my part in that, I do apologize. But at the same time, if you are going to go to a forum for advice, you really should include all the facts. Leaving stuff out will most likely cause a mis-interpretation of what's actually happening. Just like what happened here.

So instead of being critical you may just want to actually learn something here and even have a tube on hand. If worse comes to worse, you can always shove it up your

What's to learn Greg? We had little facts until the last few posts. We did learn though that you are willing to prescribe a treatment based on a verbal or written description of an ailment. Something a proper vet would never do. Hmmm. Wonder why a vet would never do that? Or a doctor for that matter? Any ideas? Could it have something to do with the fact that many medical ailments may appear the same by verbal description, but when seen in person, it turns out to be something different? You think, just maybe?
I truly hope you never run into that situation and wrongfully "prescribe" a treatment that does harm to the critter. May have worked out in this case, but still a foolhardy thing to do with out actually seeing the animal. IMHO.

Back to Tony. Again, My apologies for jumping the gun. I should have asked if you actually seen a vet yet. My bad.

I admit to not being the most patient person in the world when it comes to sick animals, and what APPEARS to be negligence from the keeper. It really is something we see a lot of. I for one have had so many sick/injured reptiles come my way from keepers that don't want to do the right thing, it's sickening. Having spent literally thousands of dollars out of my pocket to get them in shape and find them a suitable home, has probably added some to my impatience on these subjects. (Not an excuse, just a reason.) I have 2 more sick ones coming this weekend, just to emphasise what I'm saying.

BTW, antagonism was not my goal. If it was, I would have been a bit more pointed about it. Being direct was my goal. (you know, like a wake up call) I try to help people with problems probably as much or even more than a lot of people on this site. I admit to being rather direct about it, but my concern is very real, and 100% FOR the animals.

Anyway, peace out. I apologize again for my part in this. I really do hope it all works out for the best.

Actually Rick, I don't wonder at all "why a vet would never do that, or a doctor for that matter." It's kind of like calling up a lawyer for free legal advice. It's just not gonna happen. My vet requires a $50 fee up front the minute you walk in the door before even seeing him. I'd say it's all about the money. Try finding a vet that will treat your animal out of the goodness of their heart. Again, it was the middle of the weekend and vets don't do house calls, particularly for snakes.
I didn't blindly offer advice. We went back and forth through PM's and I recommended (not prescribed) something I knew would be harmless (even if the problem was misdiagnosed) and would at least provide a barrier from further tissue damage or infection until he could see the vet on Monday. I told him NOT to use 3 in 1 type antibiotic ointments others were recommending because they COULD do more harm than good.
I didn't feel there was any risk involved and wanted to help and the bottom line is I did. Even the vet said keep doing what he was doing for treatment because it was working.
That's what I meant by learning something here. Instead of ridiculing someone for using an unorthodox treatment, it may just pay to remember what worked here and in other instances in the back of your mind.

AFTER i was told to f-off...Do you not read these things?? How about that guy? Did he get a point?? I do have the right to defend myself or do I ??

You obviously have not read ALL the threads tonight and have no clue as to whats going on...issue all the "points" you like if it makes you feel more of a man.

For one , I read the entire thread before issuing points. Rick's comments were not directly at you. It was a generalized statement. You however put your comments directly to two individuals. Rick pointed out which post was directed towards you.

I'm not harsh as a mod by any means but I will check anyone that directs unneccesary names etc towards an individual.

BTW , if name calling makes you " feel more like a man " then I'd suggest another forum or reptile site.
