I know I can't spell why must they point it out?

So, I work for a student org. at UWSP. I send out letters to local agencies asking them if they would like me to help them find volunteers from the university. This is one teeny tiny part of my job, and am very busy. So I sent out my 200 or so letters in a rush due to printing delays. One of the agencies I sent it out to sent it back to me with a rather nasty comment on the bottom about how my spelling and grammar is embarassing to myself and the university, and then corrected in red ink all my errors.

Geesh...

I know I am a bad speller I use spell check when I can, and I know that my grammar isn't top par, but no one is perfect, I didn't need to be reamed out by someone I am trying to help.

I am trying to take it as constructive criticism but my feelings were hurt It reminded me of elementary school when my teacher held my spelling test up for everyone to see all my red marks.

Just another reason I want to work with Kindergarteners, they have no clue how to spell so they can't really correct me : )

Ouch!

Try not to take it personally, since the person who returned it to you probably doesn't know you at all.

Constructive criticism is a good light to view it through. Keep in mind that when you send out anything from your student org, you're representing the entire school as well as your organization. If you're sending to businesses and there are numerous spelling and/or grammatical errors, that reflects poorly and will consequently give a bad impression to businesses about your students.

If the tone of the note was nasty......well, just remember that as icky as rude people can make you feel, it's still better than *being* that rude person. If you really want to get their goat, send another letter apologizing for the clerical errors, use a ton of pompous vocabulary, and knock them back down an inch or two. FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, MAKE SURE IT CONTAINS NO ERRORS BEFORE MAILING!

No one is perfect. Just make it a point to use spell check religiously, or ask someone to proof read your correspondence before sending it out.
