Well, I started building my outdoor Draco enclosure yesterday. This is what is looked like by the end of the day.
I've already attached shade cloth on the exterior to keep the little guys in. Hopefully the weather will be nice enough tomorrow so I can get started on the hinged doors and perhaps the double door frame will go up. It's a decent size at 8' x 8' x 8'. It will be divided equally into two seperate cages.
Males from both sides will be able to view each other through plastic netting seperating them. Hopefully this will allow them to engage in active displays and increase breeding success. I believe I'll be putting wire cloth on the bottom with a liberal coating of pea gravel to discourage nesting. Instead of nesting on the open ground I'll be providing a large plastic bin to lay their eggs. I'll be able to ant proof the bin, which is always a plus. Not to mention I'll be able to find the eggs alot easier.
As for the Draco's themselves, they have recently been marked with a non toxic cattle paint stick to allow me to ID them. This allows me to monitor each specimen in terms of health, weight, and reproductive data. Still worried a little about ants, but I guess I'll just have to take a proactive approach on that and agressively search and destroy and ant hills I find. The caging will be escape proof, so I may be able to continue the diet of 3 week old crickets. I'll post more pics soon as I progress on the enclosure.
