Herps Euthanized in Vero Beach
This is a dated story by now, but it's the first I had heard of it. It was in the reptile news section in the new Reptiles magazine. I couldn't find any reference to it online.
I thought I'd post it here for those who don't get the magazine.
I was appalled by the refusal of the humane society to accept any help and killing the animals instead.
---------------------------------------------------------
Nearly 200 reptiles were removed from a pet shop in Vero Beach, Florida, where the herps were reportedly dehydrated and abused.
The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County gained custody. The St. Lucie Regional Herp Society offered to provide help, money, or to find licensed homes for them.
Most either died or were euthanized due to disease. Thirty reptiles were given to nonprofit educational companies.
The humae society was criticized for the euthanasia and for not accepting help. The humane society said they don't support reptile adoption.
