The other day my female white sided bull dropped 6 eggs. She was housed with a bigger albino male bull for the last year and I had seperated her because I had noticed what looked like dried blood on her vent about a month ago. I didn't put them under for the winter and he had never showed any interest in her so I foolishly left them together. I say foolishly because she is only about two years old and I was planning on trying to breed her next summer or even the one after that so she could grow a few more feet. She never looked gravid (just normal healthy thick) so I figured the blood was just dirt or fecal material or an unsuccessful mating attempt until I caught her laying some big white eggs a few days ago. Sadly the pictures don't do her colors justice. All I have is a camera phone.
I honestly thought she was too young to be gravid or I would have fed her double! I feel guilty because once she started laying eggs she appeared underweight.
I waited a day and fed her two very small thawed mice which she attacked with what struck and swallowed with passion. I gave her two last night, soon I will offer her rats again.
You can see four withered gopher eggs to the right from this spring. Those I was planned for and they ended up being duds! I finally gave up on them. The guy I bought the female from last summer said his pair also mated without any coaxing. The father is a hybino about the same age but he's a hoss! I've been told he's what is known as a "grower". I'm interested to see what comes out of the eggs. I don't plan on keeping them all if anyone is interested!
