    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I agree this male does indeed look like splendida. And no, this is not the “wrong“ baby pic. I know because I own the parents, paired them, and they produced this baby along with siblings that came out mostly black! Thanks for looking.

Then it's not a Mexican black Kings, it's just an all black cal king, I know, they're different, it's just a fluke

This is what I know: The parents were sold to me as MBK from a reputable source. I bred them. Most of the babies come out mostly black. A few come out looking like desert kings. Some folks say MBK are just melanistic desert kings. Others say the blackest MBK have been line bred to make an overall “black” animal that we like to call “MBK” and is also the most sought after “look” when it comes to “MBK”. So what does all that mean? I honestly have no clue! I know that even these bright babies turn black over time. We can individually call them what we like. I call them MBK because they were sold and labeled as MBK to me, and tbh, I can’t prove whether they are or not MBK, because I truly don’t know. That is my non expert two cents. Thank you kindly for looking.

Cool looking MBK. I love the "wild" phase pattern. I can attest that these are MBKs, I've bought from Armando before. His pair are known to throw juvenile patterned babies which will eventually turn all black as they mature.

If you have ever seen wild MBK hatchlings then you would see a pattern similar to splendida. The solid black look of hobby MBK hatchlings is a line bred trait.

Black is black

Please read Common Kingsnakes by Brian Hubbs. There are documented records of hunter in Sonora Mexico that collect solid black kingsnakes/ (page 223)

ExtremeHypo, I agree that some “black” snakes were collected at some point absolutely. There is also another book, forgive me for not remembering the name of it, that states that wild MBk are also hatched with patterning and some traces of coloring as well. So much has happened and changed since those books were written, who knows what is what anymore?! Thanks for sharing.
