• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

That is what I have been getting since this morning when I click on any thread.

I didn't get any notices about a server outage........ :shrug01:

I got that message a couple of times yesterday...figured it was just local congestion though, so I didn't report anything.

If it happens again, please post the date and time it takes place here so I can have a record to bring to the attention of my server guy.

Thanks....

Just happened, 4/17/2009 0802AM

Edit: I also kept getting "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." messages from VBulletin from 8:10AM until 8:18AM today.

Same problem occurring:

7:55 AM Site somewhat slow
8:04 AM Got the 'Timeout' message
8:07 AM Back to normal
8:11 AM Got 'Server is too busy at the moment...' message. This continued until 8:23 AM when everything seems normal again,

Is the server going through a scheduled backup at this time of day?

I got a 'server busy' a bunch of times this morning. For a minute, I thought mebbe I had been bad and the tech gods were angry with me

I've got my server tech looking into it, but to be perfectly honest, if he tells me that bandwidth and concurrent connections have exceeded the carrying capacity of the server and I need to go to a bigger (more expensive) one, then we're all just going to have to live with it as is. Paid memberships are at an all time low here (and CornSnakes.com as well - which is on the same server) and I have already offloaded some of my minor sites to another server to try to help. Which adds to the total cost of running all this stuff, of course. Sorry, but I just can't afford to do anything about it.

Right now the sites are running a bit in the black, but with the likelihood that paid memberships and banner advertisements will drop even further because of the economy, I can't run the risk of operating in the red by going to a more expensive server. Everyone is tightening their belt these days, which includes me as well. If my sites wind up being in the red for any length of time, well, sorry, I just can't be the only one digging deeper into my own pocket when everyone else is trying to save their own pennies and not spend it on frivolous stuff like memberships and advertising.

Like I said in my PM Rich, it's a minor annoyance, and since it only seems to last 20 minutes, you won't hear me complain a bit.

Rich,

I also got the same messages several times, and have noticed the sites (here and CS.com) a little slow, but it is not a big deal. Hopefully there will be some more paid memberships coming in. I have to get back to my advertising here too....
Don't worry too much about it, just thought I would let you know that both sites are a bit slow. Go take care of those babies, we will be here when you get back!

Kelly

Please make note of the time (easter standard, please, as that is what my server guy is going to be looking for) when they happen. He thought he fixed the problem, but I guess not... Might be several things causing the same symptoms.

Anyone else? I'm not seeing any server load spikes or getting locked out myself. It's entirely possible it's not my server causing the problem now....
