Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I know you may find this hard to believe but this virgin female a 100% het albino mated with my 100% het albino male and had her post ov shed March 27. That is 86 days ago she has not shed since and I figured she just reabsorbed the follicles. However, she looked big and I kept an eye on her and at 2:15 AM she finished laying and gave me five beautiful fully veined fertile eggs, her first clutch! I cannot believe she kept these eggs for that long; if I have it calculated correctly according to my records that is 113 days of egg retention. Does that seem right? Regardless, it is what happen and I am very happy but this cannot be normal can it? I am a bit worried because she lost a lot of weight in these eggs and has not eaten since the beginning of March when she weighed 1693g. She weighs 983g now and that has me very concerned. She seems OK (very active) but very thin. This is only my second season breeding and I do not want to harm any of my animals.

nice clutch richard,, hope you get two albinos from them and they would be 1.1 and then u are sitting good and happy.....good luck and keep us posted......mark

That must be close to some sort of a record, just shows you should never give up!!!!!!!
I would give her a week or so and try feeding her again. She should be alright, they tend to lose alot of weight between breeding and laying.

Are you sure of her ovulation date? I've heard that some females either don't shed after ovulation or they sometimes shed twice (though, this is just hearsay).

Not eating since March is really good, actually! My female who laid a little over a week ago hadn't eaten since November.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry unless you can't get her to start eating soon.

Congrats on the eggs!
Did you actually see her laying those eggs at 2 this morning?
I think you may have missed them being laid before and they are already a week or more old

I'm no expert but I have been doing this for a number of years now and I"ve never been able to see viens in an egg less than a week old. Usually more like two weeks old.

You might be watching for those eggs to hatch a week or two earlier than the usual 60 days. But I could be wrong, stranger things have happened.

Congrats on the eggs~ they look good!

oh, I forgot to add
If your putting the eggs in a bator go ahead and wash the female in luke warm water with a little dish soap. She won't like it. Clean her enclosure extra good, new substrate and all. I even rearrange where in the rack the tub is so it is completely different. Give her a couple days and start offering food. She should be right good and hungry, but she is unlikely to eat unless she gives up on those eggs.

If you leaving her on the eggs~ I've never done that so I have no advice. Good luck!

Congrats on the eggs!! I'm with Krystal on this one, are you sure of her ovulation date? Cause that's just insane!! My female shed twice for me after her ov, its really not that uncommon I believe. After she 1st shed on day 27 she was goin into another.

Like others said she should eat within a week and clean her and her tub as suggested!

As for veins being in eggs. I've always (and everyone else I know) been able to seen veins as soon as I candled them, which was right after they laid and eggs are in the bator. So no worries there! You're good!

I hope you get some albino babies! GL

Really? Cool, I'll try again this year. What kind of flashlight do you use? I use a mini maglight in the basement (no ambient light at all). I do both poultry and snakes and I've never seen a vein in a fresh laid egg. But I don't recall actually even trying to look for veins before a week into incubation in a number of years so it's entirely possible I didn't have a strong enough light then. What kind of light are you using to see veins immediately? Will a mini mag work you think?

Congrats AGAIN Preacher!! Surprise clutches are always nice!! :D

I use a mini-mag light so you should be fine with it. I even used that same light to candle my dragon eggs, and they're almost as small as jelly beans!! lol IF I candle mine, it's only right after I set them up to go in the incubator. Once they're in, I don't bother them except to add water when needed (usually only once or twice during the incubation period).

We bought a mini led flashlight and probes already.....we don't even have any mature females yet.....too soon? lol. Keep us posted on your clutch. Hope there's lotsa albinos developing in those eggs :)

Strange, I've yet to have a female go over 34 days after prelay shed.
Makes me think you thought you saw an ovy and you thought you had a prelay but missed both, and they actually did both more recently...
It's not uncommon to miss the cycle by one shed period, we have one that's doing the same thing. We thought we saw a nice ovulation and then the prelay and then nothing, but eventually she glowed properly then ovulated and shed.

I candle immediately after they lay and always see veins, unless they are infertile.
LED mini mags are great for candling :yesnod:

Yes, I did see her finish laying, if you look at my post time you will see I was up very late!!

Thanks they are nice size too!

Boy, I really want to thank everyone for the responses.

Several have questioned the ovulation date and shed. I know it sounds impossible that is why I asked, this is the first year we have gotten eggs and I am learning but March 27 was the last time she shed.

Is it possible she had a later ovulation and did not shed?

Meh, it isn't impossible--just unlikely. It could very well be that she went so long. My female who laid last year went 48 days, and I sure didn't think they could go that long!

It's definitely possible she ovulated later and just didn't have a pre-lay shed. Or maybe she just really, REALLY wanted to keep those eggs! :D

What temp was she kept at after her pre-lay shed? I'm guessing lower temps increase the time between ovulation and laying, though I don't have enough data at this point to make a conclusive judgment.

Her hot side is a constant 88-90 and the cool side is the ambient temp of the room from March til now that would have fluctuated from about 75 to now 81.

If she tended to hang out on the warm side, then I would've expected her to take closer to the average time between pre-lay shed and laying. But stranger things have happened! ;)
