Has anyone on here ever ordered a dragon from A-1? If so what kind of dragon did you get and how did they turn out? Here is a pic of a female Blood dragon that I got from them. Her tail, legs and head have shed. Her body has not yet. In this pic she is about 12/13" long and like 150 grams.

Hello

Hello,

I have not purchased any dragon from A-1 dragons. Where are they located, in Arizona, or Oklahoma? I have heard of them, but at the moment, I cannot remember.
She looks very good. When did you get her?

Hello

Hello,

Oh Ohio. I just could not remember. I could have looked it up!! LOL
I had not heard all that many good things about them, either.
That is not good.

I got her in Dec of 06. She was 2 months old when I got here. She did not grow very big or fast at all. And she got everything everything all my other dragons got. So I don't know. She is a very alert girl and eats everything and a lot of it...lol That is not good that knowone has anything good to say about them.

I guess It is what it is.

Hello

Hello,

Well, all you can do is the very best you can do. She definitely wont be any less of a friend for you though.
If you think it might give you some peace of mind, you could get her tested for adeno virus. If you do not plan on breeding, or bringing any other dragons into the house, then it really is not much of an issue then.
What type of lighting are you using?

Tracie

I think I will get her tested. I use 10.0 UVB and 100 w Sun Glo by Exo Terra. Just like all my others. The last time I took her to the vet he said she looks and feels good. She is just a small dragon. But did not do the test. I will not be breeding her or putting her with any of the others. I wish I could. She has wonderful colors. I called A-1 and talked to them about he. They got mad and made it sound like it was all my fault. And I was doing something wrong. They have been breeding dragons years and years. All of their dragons are big and strong. And in all that time I am the only person to call and complain about any of their dragons. And they sale 1000's of dragons each year. I find that hard to believe that I am the only one.....lol

This is coming from a company that says they "very social creatures and are very interactive with each other." Or perhaps the reason they have big strong dragons is because they feed them scrambled eggs. That was a new one for me. We looked at them when we first started looking for a beardie and after some searching and horror stories, we went else where. The care sheet they have is interesting reading for sure.

Hello

Hello,

Well, if they got that defensive that is definitely not good. I am sure you are not the only one who has called with a complaint if they got that mad & would not discuss anything with you.
You use a reptisun 10 a flourescent tube bulb then? As long as it is changed every 4-5 months for optimal output & she is getting good quality calcium & foods, then there is nothing you are doing wrong.
You can either do a fecal test through Lou Ann at the U. of Illinois, or you can go through your vet to do a PCR which is a cloacal & dna swab test on the vent that is sent to the U. of Florida in Gainesville through Dr. Jacobson.
As long as she is healthy, it doesn't matter if she is a little smaller. :D

You know it's funny, if you look at their "available" page, you will notice that the blood red dragons are much smaller in size than any other dragon they offer, and are smaller compared to the national average... Blood red dragons are usually very large built dragons because of GG crossings in the past, but at 3 months they should be larger than 6", just take a look a the rest of their 3 month old bloodlines, and you will notice a much longer/larger dragons... Obviously they either have small "blood" breeders, or they have been inbreeding to much... Larger breeders do tend to inbreed a lot to retain/increase the color they need/want!

But breeding small breeders with usually amount to smaller offspring...

Wow this is not a good recommendation... I know most bearded dragons like to have a body temperature of 93-94 degrees for proper digestion, and for being active... This is not correct, and even in the past this was would have been way off!

A basking light should be provided at one end of the cage. The temperature at the basking area should reach 90 deg f with the other end of the enclosure being room temperature 74 deg f.
