In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The week before Thanksgiving, I went on KingSnake Classifieds to purchase a corn snake. I came upon the ad advertising Hypo Bloodred Lavenders (aka Hypo Plasmas). The babies were priced at $80 each. When I contacted the seller he offered to sell me a pair for $160 shipped. I agreed because two would make my breeding plans go smoother/faster.

It took 3 weeks to have them delivered. This was because because of college, I only had Thursday's to be at my house when they were delivered. This was not the problem though, because of my tight schedule and it being winter I can understand where it would take some time to have them shipped. But I was always having to nag him to get a response.

The true problem came with shipping. They were supposed to be shipped on Tuesday and arrive at my apartment on Wednesday. On Tuesday night he promised me he would send me the tracking number when he got home. I was busy with studying for finals, so I did not check until the next morning (Wed). I found out he had not emailed me the tracking number. They could have been in Egypt for all I knew. I emailed him that morning and gave me the tracking number. The seller claimed that FedEx had a delay so it would be two days before they were delivered. He offered to give me a partial refund on shipping if that was the case.

When they arrived today, I was appalled by the way they had been shipped. There was no insulation, and the "heat packs" were merely hand warmers. Even if there had been no delay, the hand warmers would have stopped being warm before they got to my house. I should note that I live in the Chicago area and it is cold here (seller knew this). Needless to say the two corn snakes were freezing cold. The male was so unresponsive at first, I thought he was dead. The female had obviously faired better and was more responsive but she too was freezing cold.

So I let them warm up where they had proper heat. I did not have time to properly check them out, and was more worried about their health than anything else. Then someone on Corn Snakes Forums pointed out that they were not Hypo Plasma's which I had ordered. Both had checkers on their bellies. I went to check for myself and sure enough both had checkers and their head patterns were of a non-diffused. The seller advertised them as "Hypo Bloodred Lavenders" (which would be a hypo plasma). I received the wrong snakes.

Here is a video I made of the unboxing, the ONLY editing is I cut out the section where I put my phone down.

Here is a video of me going through how he shipped them

I do not know what to do. As noted by somebody else by the way he packed them, it does not look like he cared for them and returning them may be sending them to their death. But at the same time, if I keep them it falls to me to re-home them, because without the diffused/bloodred gene they are not what I want nor need for my breeding plans. What is the best course of action?

First thing I noticed was the "2 day" printed on the shipping label. He shipped them 2 day, not priority overnight. Hence why they were delayed a day. He indeed, probably did ship them, but made you to believe otherwise to make it look like a "one day" shipping.

The packaging is appalling. They are lucky they survived at all, also given that is was a 2 day trip. Absolutely unacceptable.... There isn't much that needs to be said about the packaging, as there was none. 1/2 inch insulation sides/top/bottom, paper towels to surround and a single 40 hr heat pack taped to the top would have been sufficient.

He absolutely should refund you a SIGNIFICANT portion of the purchase price IMO.

Watching the video and seeing the lack of response is quite disturbing. Poor creatures. How are they fairing now?

The female just shed. The female retreated to her hide and the male is in a corner on the warm side, not moving (not even to go into a hide). I am worried about the male.

Did you use a credit card thru PayPal? Sometimes PayPal is just fine to deal with when you have an issue but especially with buying live creatures, they can be useless. However credit card companies are generally much better at getting your money back in the event of a problem. Usually a good idea to pay thru your credit card when paying thru PayPal as that will give you two third parties to go to for resolution if you have a problem.

RIDICOULOUS! WOW... NO INSULATION AND THEN SHIP THEM 2 DAY! SHOULD BE A FULL REFUND FOR ALL THIS BS! HE DIDNT EVEN SEND THE RIGHT SNAKES! HE SHOULD REFUND YOU 100% AND KEEP THE SNAKES, NO WAY SHOULD THOSE BE FORCED TO GO BACK OUT IN THE COLD AND THROUGH THAT BS AGAIN! WOW! IM BEYOND MAD AND THIS ISNT EVEN ME! SO SORRY!

That box was shipped 2day. I ship a lot of fedex packages for my job, he would of had to have put that information in himself. There wasn't a delay, he lied. It is absolutely unacceptable to ship animals like this, even in good weather. There is no excuse for what those two snakes had to go through.

I know nothing about corn snake genetics, but if they weren't what you purchased he's obviously got some explaining and refunding to do.

Have you or anyone else notified the seller of this thread so they can explain themselves?

I just notified him, I will add (it is in the corn snakes forums but not here) that he has offered to call me tomorrow (Friday) to discuss a refund.

Shipping 2nd day in mid December? In an un-insulated box? Those poor, poor babies. The female was alert and tongue flicking at least. Oh, I hope they make it. And I hope the seller makes it right; and if he wants a future in reptiles, he had better learn a lesson from this.

Absolutely no excuse at all for shipping those corns in that type of packing/lack of, in that type of weather. Laziness coupled with animal cruelty. This seller needs to be gone from this industry.

OP should be instantly refunded everything.

RoseRed, how is the little male doing?

I also found it interesting that this seller, in his ad for Extreme Okeetee babies, on Kingsnake.com, seems to have played with the color-editing of his photos a tad bit too much.

Those poor snakes I hope they recover well. The shipping was horrible I honestly hope the seller learns how to ship and learns from this mistake quickly. Please keep us informed on how your corns recover.

Being a hardy species, they should bounce back well, With the temps they endured they into a brumation state over the 2 day period. So be sure when you warm them its gradually and not a instant blast of heat. Gotta remember that this species is found in in the 48 states so they can handle temps fairly well.

Be sure to report his shipping practice if he used SYR or RE. Insulation sold in packs are cheap. He did 2nd day air to save 10$ im sure which wasnt worth it in end.

That is horrible.

Local to 48 states or not, baby snakes that size should not subjected to anything like that.

I'd really like to hear his excuse for using hot-hands, 2-day shipping, and no insulation on some of the coldest nights we have had lately.

Pitiful.

So sorry to see how those babies were shipped. Hopefully he makes right in the end, if not, that's just rotten!

Oh man...that shipping is HORRIBLE! I'm really glad I came across this thread. I was looking into purchasing the male Hypo Lavender Bloodred and female Lavender Bloodred Het for Hypo pair that he had for sale. I'm really glad I went with another breeder! That is completely unacceptable! I hope he gives you a full refund and you can keep the snakes. At least you can nurse them back to health and find them good homes later.
