In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A question please

Wondering what your experience has been with the following.

My females will sometimes show a little more activity when the breeding season nears. Sometimes not. Usually always when I insert the male. No biggie really, because other then that, everything else is "normal" for what I've come to observe from them.

But this time around, Morrigan, my '06 Kahl female has decided to destroy her cage...repeatedly...with her activity increase. I mean, she tears up the paper, flips her water bowl which is no easy task, rearranges the whole place, and urates about every other day. And i mean in abnormal places too, like on the glass doors, all over the hide and walls of the cage, then she tramples it and tracks it everywhere else, including her and the male. I cleaned her cage yesterday, she messed it up over night, and I cleaned it this morning. As I type this, I think she's trying to leave me a present on top of her hide.

This sort of behavior has only been since I started tentatively inserting the male a couple months back, to see if he thought he knew what he was doing yet, or if I wait another year. He's still a tad on the young side, but displays much willingness. Thing is, I'm taking her behavior as not wanting him around at all. :shrug01: He's been removed for 3 days, and he'll be feeding this weekend.

So what's your take on this? You have any females that get like this when a male is present? None of mine have ever gotten this bad before.

And before anyone asks, 11" x 24" Flex controlled by a Herpstat Pro. Temp gun agrees with settings and readings on Herpstat, which are hot spot 92.4° and cool end in the low 70's. Boaphile 4 ft cages.

Any input would be great.

I've had females throw urates all over the place, but none ever got as destructive as you described.

I have not had any get that destructive either ... but for the past two years, one of my females has gone to "searching", it would seem (a behavior I had only previously seen in my males). The end result of this, is her getting nose rubs. She got one last year and she has a minor one this year. It stops as soon as I put a male with her, at least in the two times this has happened that has been the case.

In your case, however, I would agree that she may simply not be recessive and the presence of the male is causing this behavior, however bizarre it appears to be.

Have you attempted to place another male in there with her?

Maybe she is not up for breeding this year. Maybe she is, but not with that male. I am not really sure. It's kind of odd.

Usually with other animals (cats and dogs in particular) when they become destructive like that it usually means that they are unhappy with something that is going on in their environment...in this case the male being in her cage lol. Either he is too small to breed with her or he is just getting on her nerves and she doesn't like him, that's my best guess.

Good luck with you season!

I have never had destruction of a cage that bad before. I have had a couple that would bunch up the paper and flip the bowl while smearing urates on the doors. And that was only a couple times last year. Please let us know what comes of it. Good luck.

hmm weird question but are you 100% sure Morrigan is female?

Someone just recently explained this same scenario on the BP forum. That's what I asked him, too. Only reason that I skipped that question was because of Richard's experience. Would certainly be the first thing to checkout, if the sex has not already been confirmed.

Same reason I did not ask either, but it is a good question.

I'm aware of his experience (why I said it was a 'weird question') but it was the first thing that popped in my mind to cause such behavior and well, we all make mistakes sometimes...
;)

Oh, it's a great question, especially for anyone reading this with less experience. Was just explaining why I deleted it before posting my reply. :)

Well, I was until you asked anyway. HA HA I palpated her many times as a neo and never felt hemipenes, she has a shorter tail, and is growing like a female would. But...I'll make it a point to probe her this weekend sometime. It would be the first time palpation has failed me, but it's certainly possible I reckon.

I welcome all questions. I ain't perfect. Don't feel the need to hold back stuff like that with me.

BTW, I was right. She defecated right on top of her hide last night. She's still active, but maybe just a tad less today. Been 4 days since I removed the male. He is still pretty small compared to her, but seems big enough and up to the task.

Another male is out of the question. She is destined to make me some TH Blood Sunglows, and those are the only plans I have for her. Don't need any unplanned for babies around. LOL

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll leave him out for a full feed cycle or 2 and see if she chills out, and if it starts up again when I reinsert him.

I wouldn't ever expect palpitation to fail due to its 100% track record well into
some animals 2nd year. Excluding of coarse animals fed out on the 10-14 day routine
that has the net body mass near 4-5 year adults grown more conservatively.

I strongly feel the animal is correctly sexed by a well established non'evasive technique

I prefer palpation as well. But I do have years of experience probing. Helping a friend move last minute notice, so I'll get to it afterward.

Just got it and the room is a wreck :ack2:
3) cages near flipped by males
2) by females
12) floor soaked yet water bowls are up right and have most of their
contents.

What a mess . . . . . .

LOL Have fun with that.

Morrigan probed 5-6 scales deep. So I'm back to being sure she's a female.

And also an update. She's settled down now. Back to acting normal. The male however is courting himself and his hide. That's what he did last feeding too, and attacked it with a hiss, but refused to eat it. Hoping this time around he'll be more in the mood for a meal. I hope i didn't create a maniac by inserting him at such a tender young age. LOL

Anyway, I'll keep him out until this coming feeding and the next. Re-insert him and see what we see.

Thanks again for the input.
