    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

About the BOI and it's future here...

If the BOI goes away, it's really going to hurt the little guys, myself included. (But mainly I'm speaking to those that sell here but don't contribute.) Without a means to check to see if someone is legitimate before sending money, people are going to stick to dealing with those they know. And where can we point to show them that we're legit too? There won't be anywhere, and we have only ourselves to blame for that. Think about it.. And then contribute. We stand on the edge of losing the big 9, and the BOI. It's time to stop standing back and letting others do the work.

For those who have given, my gratitude.
 
I agree that we NEED the BOI. It is a real shame when people post on a thread about how upsetting it is that someone has been shafted, or scammed, only to not contribute themselves to ensure they are not the next one being screwed. :shrug01:
 
If I may contribute, I see now, a "consortium" of breeders organization being developed to regulate prices. I think these people that have gathered together to form this consortium are hoping for the demise of the BOI so that they can take the reins. This may be one reason why there are few supporters compared to the number of members....

I think now, if the BOI is going to retire, then I should sell all my stock rather than depend on a consortium of FRIENDS to be fair on the market.

That's just my take:shrug01:
 
Please don't badger people about not being paid contributors here. I guess everyone has their own reasons.... :NoNo:
 
webslave, i do not feel as though i am badgering.....just wonder why people expect everything for free....or to be paid for by eveyone else. people take advantage of the BOI, but ride on other peoples donations........
i just wondered if there was a legit reason or if they were just cheap.....
a lot of time and effort went into the BOI and it may disappear because a lot of people that use it on a regular basis do not want to pay......
sorry if i upset you....bit i will be upset if the BOI goes away

I doubt anyone would be sorrier then me to see the BOI go away, but still, that is no reason to hound (or choose a word you feel is more appropriate) people about not pitching in to help keep it. I just spelled out the issues facing me and the BOI and everyone is welcome to think what they like about it, and act accordingly as they see fit.

You are welcome to put whatever and whomever's names you want into my statement if, in your opinion, you feel it fits, but I seriously doubt you can dispute the actual face value facts of my statement. And, quite simply, facts are facts, regardless of the causes and the consequences.

Anyone with half a brain that reads that crap will figure out that it is not any fault of mine that this site has a lack of contributors. In all actuality this website makes quite a bit of money, do you not see that? Anyway, Merry Christmas.
 
I was not on Fauna back when all that happened, and quite frankly other people's old grudges do not interest me in the least. The simple fact is that I never would have known about the BOI if I hadn't joined GF, so Kelli is directly responsible for at least one contributing member here. I found it to be a valuable resource, which apparently will be shut down or allowed to wither away and die regardless of how many supporting members there are, and I'm very disappointed by that.

Thank you. I support the BOI and have sent others to this site more times than I can remember, because I believe it is a fantastic resource. I would not be a contributing member if I did not believe that.
 
I am sorry if the facts I mentioned insulted, offended, or seemed accusatory to anyone. I simply stated the facts. Facts are what they are, regardless of who likes them or not.
 
Facts are facts, but not all facts are interesting or relevant. My concern is not who said what about whom three years ago, my concern is that the BOI, a valuable and useful resource, appears to be on it's way out one way or another. If you have no interest in saving the BOI, and plan to either shut it down or cripple it so it dies off on it's own, then what was the point of the big "Save the BOI" campaign? Are contributing members really saving the BOI, or just throwing our money away?

If you read this thread in it's entirety, then you know all the facts you need to know in order to make that determination.
 
forgive the legally uneducated...

I never realized, and I know is niave, how much of a legal threat the boi was. I guess I figured that as long as what was posted was not slander there was no room for a law suit. I think that the more I see in the BOI the more opinions I see and I can see where someone may get into trouble over an opinion. So here's my thought...
I know that most of my friends that are aspiring breeders usually don't have the money off hand to pay for memberships to place classified ads and thats why they come here. While it's great to have a free place to put up an ad I don't think that most of us would have a problem paying a small percentage of each sale to the website similar to the way ebay is set up. The difference would be that you would only charge the percentage of the sale whereas ebay charges for pics and bold print and all that junk. This way people don't have to pay for an ad unless they sell something and then they're giving you a little something for helping them do that. Of course this would be some work setting it up but I'm sure there are people here who would help. I think that this would also bring in more money for your retirement than relying on contributions to the BOI. Obviously you would have to work out the details on controlling payments thru the website but it's something worth considering I think.
As for me I'm gonna go edit some ads to include.... (5% of sale goes to the BOI)
 
This thread is 28 pages long. I have read it before, but I don't really feel like taking the time to go through it again to try and piece the facts together when you could easily give me a straight answer. I don't intend to be rude, disrespectful, or accusatory, I just want to know if our contributions mean anything.
