In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The Senate Committee on the Environment & Public Works (EPW) has passed S. 373 aka 'The Python Ban'. The committee held a mark up session on S. 373, to amend title 18, United States Code, to add constrictor snakes of the species Python genera to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) (Ranking Member) expressed concerns about the bill. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) offered an amendment to limit the scope of the bill to only the 9 snakes addressed in the USGS report on large constrictors. Senator Cardin further agreed to work with Senator Inhofe to improve the bill prior to a vote on the Senate floor. The amendment was passed by voice vote. S373 was then voted out of Committee by voice vote with Senator Inhofe registering a NO vote.

S373 has now passed out of committee. It cannot become law until it is voted on and passed by the full Senate and House of Representatives. There is still much work to be done prior to the Python Ban becoming law. S373 in its current form is unacceptable to USARK and the Reptile Nation. We will continue to work with Senator Inhofe, Senator Cardin and the EPW Committee Staff to shape the future of this bill. Please make an appointment to visit with your Senator and express your concerns with S373. Everyone needs to step up and make contact with your Senator. Let USARK know about your meeting. It is time to step up our game and show Washington we are serious about this. Continue the good fight. The Reptile Nation thanks Senator Inhofe for his even handed treatment of our industry.

It is extremely important for everyone in the Reptile Nation to take direct action to STOP S. 373. If you don't take massive action now you may never get another chance to effect this legislation. We have come too far to give up now. We can win if we all pull together and take massive action. DO IT NOW!

ACTION STEPS: USARK Senate Campaign

1. Email your Senator- This is the simplest step to take. It is only effective if done as apart of USARK's comprehensive overall strategy. Email alone is the least effective way to get your message to Congress. Please click this link and follow the instructions to Email your Senator. http://www.rallycongress.com/united...epers/2705/tell-us-senate-to-stop-python-ban/ Then go to step 2.
2. Phone your Senator- This is also an easy step that everyone can do. It is more effective than email when trying to get your message through, but still is best used as one part of the USARK Senate Campaign. Please click this link and follow the instructions to Phone your Senator. http://www.rallycongress.com/united...epers/2707/tell-us-senate-to-stop-python-ban/ Go to step 3.
3. Visit your Senator- This is the single most effective way to influence your Senator. Make an appointment to go in and talk to your Senator's Staff. They will respond to your personal visit to their local offices. You don't have to go to Washington DC. This makes your Opposition to S373 personal and gives your Senator a reason to oppose the bill. Contact USARK and we will coach you and give you talking points to use with your Senator. We can help you get a strong message across. Just let us know once you have scheduled you appointment. Go to step 4.
4. Report Back to USARK- We want to hear about your progress. We have set up a forum for each state where you can report your experiences. Let us know what happens. You can also discuss your experiences with others from your state. We are interested in all of your experiences, but especially those all important 'in person visits' with your Senator. Please click this link to Report Back to USARK. http://usark.org/forum/ You will have to register just like any other forum. Then go to the S373 Senate Campaign and click your state. We can't wait to hear from the Reptile Nation on this!
Lobbying Campaign:

Not only is USARK is spearheading the grass roots fight against S373, but we are leading the lobbying effort for a coalition of interests in Washington, DC. We are the only organization involved in this issue that has a powerful professional lobbying presence on Capital Hill. We have employed a team of top flight lobbyists that have been engaged on S373 since it was introduced last winter. We have reached out to the Pet Industry and have been approached by the Fashion and Western Apparel Industries; all of whom are concerned by the implications of arbitrary legislation of new Lacey Act provisions that could negatively impact their business. This is a time when we need 'all hands on deck' to fight this ill conceived legislation. Unity is essential. There is Strength in Numbers... Protect Your Rights! We will continue to engage this fight at all levels.

Hey FaunaClassifieds!

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jonathan Brady and I've been in the herp hobby for about a decade now. I recently contacted Andrew Wyatt with concerns that the USARK message may not be reaching enough people due to the limits on his time. I offered to donate my time by signing up on as many herp forums as I could, and posting USARK press releases for everyone to see.

I realize many of these forums already have USARK members posting the messages which is GREATLY appreciated, but the thoughts I expressed to Andrew were that it might be nice to have a single voice across all of the forums giving these updates. I've also committed to making myself available to answer questions about the legislation as well as action requests made by USARK. So feel free to post questions under the threads I've started. I've set up an email account as well, it's: [email protected]

I hope that my contribution on this forum is useful, and I look forward to seeing you all more often!

Thanks,
Jonathan Brady

Jonathan,

Welcome to the site.

If USARK would like their own forum here on this site to be able to directly reach the membership, please let me know. Many of the members here might not be inclined to come to you, so perhaps having a presence and a rallying spot on site would be helpful.

My only string attached would be that if I set up such a forum, that it actually be used and not left abandoned two months from now.

Rich,
A dedicated forum would be great. I can guarantee that I will continue to post on the forum as long as Andrew has me in this role.

I can't guarantee that Andrew will make an appearance himself, as he is just overloaded with work already. If you want Andrew to make the posts himself, I'll be happy to get in touch with him and see what his thoughts are.

Andrew does have my username and password for this forum and he could always register a username of his own.

Let me know what your thoughts are!

jb

It really doesn't matter who from USARK would post notices and engage in dialog, as long as the membership here is kept abreast of latest developments within that forum.

How about providing a forum title for me as well as a short text description while I mull over where I think this new forum would best reside?

You're putting me on the spot Rich! lol ummm... How about something like:

Legislative Updates and Herp Industry News (provided by USARK)

The latest press releases and news stories that affect us all.

.

Feel free not to include the "provided by USARK" if you'd like the forum to be a utility to which all members can contribute.

How's that sound?

How about USARK - Legislative Updates and Herp Industry News ?

Still has the USARK pull and then we can all contribute in one place instead of being scattered all about.

And Thanks to both you and WebSlave

OK, I created the new forum for you. After some reflection, I thought with all the serious issues coming down the pike concerning everyone's "rights" to own animals of their choosing, it might be best to move the entire section on legislative issues higher up the totem pole where the light from the spotlight is brighter.

Not saying this category will stay here forever, but I believe for the duration, this might be a good idea.

Oh yeah, I'll move these threads to that new forum as well with a timed link between them...

I see that this post has sort of moved in a different direction but I just wanted to say that I emailed a petition via the link and it said I was only the 18 person from NC to do so, I realize that there are other ways to take action but I really do hope that my fellow NC herp keepers are standing up and speaking out as well as all the other herp keeper in the US.
