• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I would like to know how that works. I have seen several people, such as turtlesale.com who are bad guys in the business...I know turtle sale for one.

They ship baby turtles, via usps regular mail, in a padded envelope inside of a cardboard cut out box.

Go figure.

Are you referring to the banner ads, text ads, or google ads?

As for the banner ads and text ads, they are a self service program I set up whereby people simply register there (http://www.FaunaAds.com), pay into their account via PayPal, and set up their own ads. So I usually don't even know who is advertising until I actually see the ads myself. So far, none have been abusive, so for the most part I would have to say that it is working as I had hoped it would.

In reference to the Google ads, they work via keywords triggered from the page they are displayed on. And pretty much I see them for the first time just as everyone else here does. Some don't seem appropriate, but my programmer told me it would take a while for things to get zoned in for the ads. The reason they are now up at the top is because he told me the way I had them originally set up was not very effective and asked if I would mind if he tried some things to make them work better. And I have to admit that what he has done most certainly has made a difference!

Anyway, hope that explains things a bit.

I am refering to the google ads, I am pretty sure. I figured that was the way it was...sucks sometimes.

I find the sheer amount of space taken up by ads on top kind of annoying. When you open a new thread or go to post, the whole screen is now filled by ads, menu bars etc. and you have to scroll quite a ways before you get to posts / reply box. It would be nice if they were more compacted or restricted to the sides. The forum content seems to be playing second fiddle to the ads. It's a bit more of a chore to read and post, and I find myself getting more enjoyment from less "cluttered" forums.

I realize that these ads are likely a vital source of revenue, but there's a lot of empty vertical space up there too. Maybe change the tan ad bar to a one liner or at least get rid of the empty space. There's a gap between the Fauna sign-up bright green line and the box with the user cp etc. Then there's a lot of space above and below the google ads...

I attached a comparison of my screen when I click to view a post on this forum and another.
