In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Advice Please

Hi First I am a Colubrid owner, who just took on the responsibility of nursing a Columbian Boa back to health. I was given this snake by a friend who sold it and got it back 4 weeks later with a story of the snake being mean.. I guess she did not eat for this guy. When my friend got her back she delivered 15 slugs and 7 babies. This was about 2weeks ago. She still has not eaten and he had no warm place to keep her. So I brought her home and put her in with my collection. We modified a cage to keep in the heat and humidity.. The warm side is maintaining ambiant air temp of 88-90'. I mist her once a day with warm water. At night I have a vaporizor i put on in the room for everyone it really makes there sheds easier..
I have only had her since this past Thursday. She seems to be warming up very nicely, she actually moved out of the heat.
My big problem question is eating. My friend gave me 15 frozen rats..jumbo size. She looks so sad shape and not very strong. I bought her a smaller rat and killed it and gave it to her this afternoon, but she showed no interest. She was hissing and turned away. Should I wait a few more days until she makes this cage her own and try to feed her overnight. And will she be alright until then. Her sKin is very loose and she is skinny.
Thanks for any help.

I would wait to feed her.

Your set up sounds good. I would give her a week or maybe even two to settle in before attemtping to feed her. Feeding at night may be benefical. I have boas that feed better at night. When feeding try to disrupt the boa as little as possible. Feeding her when she is in her hider may help. I would feed her a small prey item. Handle and disrupt her as little as possible, not at all would be best. If she does not feed in two weeks a trip to the vet may be needed. I don't know just how bad off she is so a vet trip may already be neccesary. Good luck.

Hi, if you could it would be better to move her to another room away from your collection. Just in case there is something other than a stressful parturition or a new home causing her not to eat.
Next make sure she has a hide box and a large bowl of water. Since it has been a couple of weeks since she delivered she may be going into a shed cycle. Check to see if this is the case. If not try feeding her a small- medium rat dead or def. left overnight. I would stop misting her for now and make sure she isnt too warm. You may be giving her too much attention. After giving birth my Boas are removed washed and put into a seperate cage and the next day they eat so aggresively that it scares me.
When she gave birth at your friends house did he feel to make sure there weren't anymore slugs or babies left inside?
If she doesn't go into a shed cycle or eat in a couple of days I would take her to a Herp Vet so they can make sure that there is nothing left over inside her.
As for her looks, Boa moms look horrible after giving birth but they usually put the weight back on pretty quickly. So I wouldnt worry unless she doesn't eat.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask them here or email me.
Good Luck and Thanks For Caring, Rob
:)

u can also try the old pillow case trick to get her to eat and that is to put her in a pillow case with the prey overnight on the cool side of the cage. You may wake up to a surprise that she finally ate for you i have used this trick many of times and it does work. if not leave her in her feed tub overnight if u use one that is. another trick to try is to cut the nose of the rat open so some of the blood is out or the head even so the brain matter is out a little bit and that results in a strike as well. hope this helps
