    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I bought a spider ball python and have had her for almost a month. She ate the second day after she was shipped to me. She has tried to strike at me every single time and has bit my gloves every time, tried to strike at my boyfriends nose. I bought her a couple mice and with in three weeks only ate one mouse. She is my fourth ball python but I never had such an aggresive one so I guess my questions are

if I continue to hold her will she quit becoming so aggressive?

Do all spider balls look like they have a mustach? I thought at first she had mouth problems but she seems fine. Drinks water, strikes and swollows fine.

Anything is helpful!
 
I had a mojave that was pretty aggressive when I got him. What I did was be nice and slow and easy around him, especially when picking him up. The first priority was making him not want to strike in the first place.

Once I had him, I held him. For the first week I just put him under my shirt against my skin. That way he was in a warm dark place, couldn't see all the movement around him, and was getting used to my scent. After that I held him in my hand away from my face for a few more days until I felt more safe around him, then let him wrap around my neck.

Sometimes it would take him more than 30 minutes to loosen up out of the ready to strike position, but I made sure to NEVER put him back while he was like that. He never got anywhere until he loosened up.

It has been about four months and I am comfortable handling him and picking him up, however he is still way more "jumpy" than any of my other balls. I still need to take it easy and let him know I'm there and touch him for a few seconds before I pick him up, but he is SOOO much better than the day I got him. He hasn't struck at me or even done the quick recoil for over a month now.

Pretty much all ball pythons calm down after being held enough and after they get used to a routine. I wouldnt be too concerned about it, in fact her striking out like this may even be good, shows that she is healthy and is acting like a normal snake would when being confronted in a new environment.
