In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

AHHH i hate that tons of people in the buisness wont een reply to me because i am a minor. I even give them my nimber ere they can talk to my parents. I HATE IT.

I think realistically it's about liability because of the day and age we live in... if you are talking about you trying to purchase. I think that as someone who's underage you'll just have to get used to it. lol, as someone who is an "adult" now, looking back, it went by really quickly.
Maybe instead of you getting in touch with people, have your parents do it so there is no question or problem.

Sorry, when I say it went by quickly I mean being underage. Even though at the time it can be a pain waiting for that to happen.

I understand where the breeders/sellers come from on this. You will too, when you get on the other side of that line.

you may have better luck if:

I understand typos because I have alot of them myself but if you contact a seller with that many typos, they will most likely not respond nor would I. I may not correct typos here or on the forums, most here know I am bad at typing lol

But if I were you, I would work on being able to articulate what you want and type it well with a follow up email from the parents and a call from the parents to the seller.

I have free long distance so its not the money of the call, if the parent really wants the minor to have the animal they can pick up the phone and call me!

Oh come on i was in hurry i was typing fast. All nthe e mails i write i type well and are spell chacked but the point is i say my parents dont know a thing about reptiles and that can we talk about the reptile side and the discuss the payments. AND, their responce always is i will not talk to kids. I always say my parents can talkl to you after we discuss the reptile part and i think that is fair if i know how i am caging it, feeding it, and taking care of it i should be allowed to discuss with people what they are selling if i start by saying my parents can call you.

Ok, if they are as well typed and as spell checked as your reply, you need a new spell checker.

Kids and minors are 2 different things, kids are children of a very young age (or a baby billy goat which would be the proper term), Minors are about to be of the age of 18, say 15-18.

Minors should be able to ARTICULATE what they are looking for and be able to express it as well as being able to explain to the ADULT parent which is responsible for the purchase in the end. And yes be able to type it or use spell check to correct the type.

I've sold to one 13 year old, well that has since passed he is now 15 but he was able to express what he wanted and his parents confirmed the transaction by email and phone.

What you are asking for is for someone to just guess that it is OK to send you this animal and that it might be OK with mom and dad, and that you know what you want even though you can't express it in a typed format. That's alot to ask from anyone!

Let us now hope you are not in such a hurry to "take care" of this reptile you complain about not being able to buy!

The problem is what Wendy stated...
Just look at it this way: people who are selling any product to an underage person run the risk of potentially overstepping the parent's wishes which in turn puts the seller at risk. People are just looking out for their best interest, and are trying to respect your parents. I am glad that they do both!

Do noy say i can not type or express it in a good format because i can. Some people do talk to me and then i say now you can talk to my parents so you can get approval.

I judt do not respect when i state what i am looking for and ask if we can talk and then you can talk to my parents.

Allright so my typing skills are not perfect yet

LOL.

Anyways this is the sound off forum and you needed to sound off. It is a pain for minors., no doubt. Acourse time WILL fix your problem :)

Jesse, I don't have to say you can't type its obvious to anyone who reads what you type. And I have had to read several of your post more than once to figure out what it is that you are tryign to say.

I can't type, alot of people can't BUT when I am asking a seller about something in email I try to read and re-read before I hit send. You don't seem to do that nor capitalize your I's. That is a big stand out that the person is a young minor.

I have sold to minors, when they email me with a well typed email and the parents CALL ME and make the arrangements for the sale, including payment and shipping dates. I have also asked for photos of the proposed set ups and ask about feeding and general care to make sure they know how to care for the pet they want.

So I don't see where you would really have a problem, if you do as you say you do and send a WELL TYPED EMAIL as to what it is you want and have your parents CALL the seller to set up payment and shipping.

Just work on your typing skills and communication and have your parents contact the sellers to set up the arrangements for you. That should help solve buying problem you may be having.

There is more than the risk of having upset parents:
In all states minors, unless they are living on their own, can disavow most of their contracts except for necessities, which does not include reptiles.

I bought my ATB from a minor and it was a terrific transaction, and I talked to the mom and it went perfectly. But all minor transactions should be on a case by case basis.

The minor vendor I purchased from was knowledgeable, confident, and kept the conversation to the reptiles and the sale. I would be more likely to transact business with someone like that, than with someone who starts off complaining, to me that is a red flag.

Just my two cents: if you post a lot on this site, and people see you are responsible and have knowledge or are working hard to acquire it, I think you will have a chance, with your parents input, of acquiring reptiles through vendors.

I understand your frustration, but there are many other things to consider when people are reluctant to do business with a minor. For one, I believe it is illegal to engage in a 'contract' with a minor over the internet and/or by mail. Selling an animal to a buyer is a sales contract. Second, it is standard policy from a liability standpoint that we can only accept PayPal and credit card payments if they are in fact from the person and account they were issued to. We as sellers can be sued by parents who's kids 'borrowed' their credit cards without their consent. Dealing directly with the parent ensures us that a minor child has their full consent to own a reptile.

Allright so my typing skills are not perfect yet
BYW, this forum has a spell checker... it's one of the buttons next to the "submit reply".

Marcia,
I know that contracts with minors are voidable by the minor, and so carry great risk to those contracting with them. Are there special statutes for internet sales making the sales actually illegal? I am interested in finding out more about internet law, it is something I have not yet read about.
