In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Albino dropped her litter!

This might be stupid question but is high mortality normal occurrence in albinos? Or is it because this was her first time?

Well generally, it normally occurs more often in virgins. First clutches normally have more of a slug ratio than other pregnancies for the boa. So next time around for my albino should be better (I hope at least).

However breeding albino x albino, snow x snow, etc. is not something anyone should do. The babies will be deformed, still borns, slugs, etc. (so I was told, I have never done that).

I see, did not know that.

Even if the 2 albinos are from unrelated bloodlines???

i have unrelated pairs of albinos that give birth to healthy babies. but prefer to stay with either my het to het or albino to het the babies from these breedings seem to have better color and also better feeders to start. i have heard that both sharp strain and kahl strain can have issues when breeding albino to albino.

Yah, I'm not too sure on exactly how you may get around the albinoxalbino breeding or snowxsnow etc. because I have never done it. I have hear very unfortunate stories about it, and its very sad that so many come out with problems or deformities. I dont know the details of it so I cant really say anything but I just know what to do it, the odds are very bad. Your lucky that yours are healthy. :)

Congrats on the babies!!

Sorry to hear about them being early, high mortality is pretty common in premie litters. That's pretty cool you got a paradox!

What I've found over the years is it seems to be better to leave the babies at the birth site until they move off on their own, which can be as little as a few hours to my last litter some stayed 'in their sack' and didn't move off until over 48 hrs after birth. Just keep them warm and very humid. At this point since they've already been moved, just make sure to keep an area where they can get extra warm as that will help them absorb the yolk faster, once the yolk dries up, it does need to be removed (and if the umbilical bleeds, it needs to be tied off, I haven't had to do that, so I'd suggest talking to some other people about it before you do it, I know Dave Colling at RainbowsRUs had a nice write up about how to do this).

Hopefully the rest will continue to pull through but honestly be prepared for a little more die off over the next few weeks. My first litter was from albino female x het male, she dropped premature of the 16 that were born alive (8 albinos 8 hets) after 2 months I was left with 4 total, 2 albinos and 2 hets. The ones that survive are usually pretty strong through.

Good luck and please don't let it discourage you.

:) Thanks for the reply! I did leave them at the birth site for over 2 hours just to make sure everything was finished before I started removing them. The 6 of them that were alive, only 1 was moving at all. The rest looked completely dead in the cage. When I picked them up they moved very little and actually thought they were dead but saw little movement so I put them in the seperate tank in hopes they'd make it. I'm praying the 3 make it ok. Its a horrible site to see and to bury the little ones that didnt make it.... their now buried on the side of my house. Poor little guys...

I think the paradox may have died from me not cutting the yolk off. I was told it would naturally come off. One of the het's still had the yolk attached and it came off by itself so I thought thats what would happen. I'll be watching the last albino more closely now though because he/she still has the yolk attached.

The last albino died this afternoon.... :( I will post pics of him/her tonight or tomorrow... buried him/her in the same area s the rest of them....

I still have the 2 hets though! Their gorgeous! I'll shoot some pics tomorrow of them and post them. :)

Wow, very interesting, thank you so much for that link! I have a normal columbian that will be dropping an immense amount of babies soon so this will definitley come in handy if needed. :)

Thanks everyone for the kind words about the losses. I will take some pics today of the hets that are doing well! They look identical to their dad!

You're welcome :) And keep us posted on the other litter! Good luck with them.

Bell, I do have a GORGEOUS big girl thats VERY crazy looking, BUT I wont be selling her lol! I dont even know what kind of price I'd put on her to tell you the truth. I've never seen anything like her before. I'll post some pics of her up in the next few days. Yah, that big coastal girl was amazing, she went to a good guy though so I'm happy! I'll let you know if I let any others go and will def. keep you updated on the tiger carpet eggs! It sucks that my Jag didnt take. I saw her a couple times copulating with my pure Diamond and even thought she was gravid for a couple weeks but nothing :( Oh well! Next season she'll be bigger so I guess its ok she didnt take this time around!

Abby, I def. will keep you posted on the other litter! When she drops I'll make another thread for her and her babies! I'm excited!

By the way everyone, I took pics of the 2 baby hets yesterday but didnt get a chance to post them up here yet. I'll do that tonight so make sure you check back here! Their so cute and look EXACTLY like their dad!
