Albino genetics

Hey, my name is Al Hunter I am new to the forum and I have question about a litter I recently had.
I bred a sharp strain sunglow to a red group hypo female The female was not het for albino. She delivered 11 babies one of which is an albino. I was very surprised when I saw it but I thought right away that the female must have the sharp gene and nobody knew or remembered. Then I thought that I really missed the odds if she was het and I only got one albino ( 10% ).
So has anybody heard of this happening that an albino just shows up unexpectedly like this? I heard a rumor that hypo to hypo breedings can sometimes produce albino babies. I thought that the genetics were pretty straight forward here and both parents had to have the albino gene. Any help or comments will be appreciated.

You are correct. As far as I know the female has to carry the albino gene as well. Albino is a recessive trait. You just lucked out and got a dh sunglow female. Just my opinion. As far as odds I'd say you didn't do so well if she is a het albino but hey you did good cause you didn't know she was lol. All of the other baby's will be 100% hets though! You would think, if het albino you would get at least 2 out of 11 babies.

I think it is a very nice batch of babies! The pic of the whole litter was pre shed. I think the red group influence is really showing. Here's a pic of a probable super hypo and a pic of mom. ( red group hypo purchased from Tibor Papp )
