In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,
The first contact to Alec taylor from guyana for some reptiles was last winter.

As i check his website and Facebook and Google search, i think he was reliable, so i order some reptiles include CITES species.

Everything was going well, and i sent the first payment on this February.
But after i sent the payment, he replied my email slower and slower,
and when i complained to him cause of CITES Permit, he just keep saying have to wait Guyana gov's act and just wait for a weeks.

But he said before, it takes only a week.

So i wait for him almost 2 months, so i said to him if he need more time for CITES permit, send me the non-CITES species first.

But he said it's cause of Guyana wild life department didn't open the for export, any animals can't export right now. And also, he already complain to the gov, so he will wait for some weeks and if it doesn't work, take action to the gov.

So one more month passed, i was totally give up with this order, i can't delay anymore and because of him, i lost many customers. So i said i want refund or give me some options.

and that's when he start to just watch the message and didn't give me a any reply. It's been 2 weeks.

I check the news about Guyana wild life dept's mass up so maybe it's true, but he makes me lost almost 4 month and my customers, have any solution or options for it, and now ignore my message and didn't refund my payment.

I don't care that Alec Taylor is Scam or Dealer, but i'm sure he is the one that shouldn't make a deal with it.

You sure his name isn't Garrett? Do you have any correspondence that you can post here? PMs, E-mails etc.?

Guyana is closed still, many of us who import from there are waiting as well for it to open, usually opens around March but something happened I think 2 members of export association were kicked off. So trying to find replacements that the government can approve I think.
He probably didnt scam you, but is waiting like all the other exporters to get quota.

OP, when you placed the order did the importer give you firm "receive by" dates or was it just implied? Obviously an order can't be stalled forever and the seller expect to keep the money, but imports are more complicated than other orders and there are more parties involved, so the seller can't always help the delays that they face. All the seller can really do is keep the buyer informed on the progress, unless specific dates or time frames were stated in the purchase agreement that give you defined rights to a refund. I've been strung along before, unintentionally, by a seller who was also being strung along by their exporter. It can be frustrating, but it is a risk that comes with the potential reward of access to species not easily obtainable in our own counties.

Do you have any paperwork or emails/messages showing what the purchase agreement was?

This is spot on. It also sounds like the OP is buying these to resell. There's nothing wrong with that BUT if he sold them to his local customers without having them in-hand, that's a black mark on him. I also deal with stuff where government regulations and paperwork can create delays - sometimes up to a year before I receive the product - and I never advertise or sell that product until I physically have it. That keeps my reputation intact.

Very good point! The importer could be in the same boat as the OP right now, stuck waiting on someone else they have no control over to fulfill commitments to their customers. The OP at least had the benefit of knowing it was an import order so delays could be expected, I hope his customers had the same benefit. (No dig on the OP either, having your funds tied up and being excited about an order is frustrating. I just don't know that it requires a bad guy tag)

Well thanks for the reply guys,
I was believe him, that's why i sent him a payment.
and i'm owner of pet shop, so i understand the delay on international deals.
Thant's why i just waiting him for 3~4month, but point is his manner.
First, he's reply became slow and slower, even though we use Whatsapp so i could know if he check the message.
Second, after he expain wildlife division's situation, he just keep saying next week, and another next week, next month, go on... i can't get any certain answer from him.
It makes my plan messed up.
Third, after 4 May, i didn't get any answer from him, keep ignore my message and email.
i know what you guys are saying, but i think he was very rude.
I said to him many time that our plan has wrecked so please refund my payment or give me other options, but he didn't evey say anything about it.
I understand the situation that exporter can't export cause of their gov, but he didn't give any solution or answers for long time! Just watch my message and keep silence for month. And also, i send email to him if you keep silence on my message, i'll write the post on forums. He also ignore it. That's why i wrote the post...
As simply, afther payment, he said have to wait the gov' authority, and keep ignore my contact for month. What else should i do?

3-4 months sounds like a long time to some, and others I bet it seems like a blink of the eye when it comes to import orders. We had asked for some documentation as to what the agreement was as far as delivery dates and you didn't respond to those posts for two weeks... technically you still haven't, so I'm assuming that means the "guaranteed" delivery dates were implied/assumed? Was there any clause related to when a refund would be owed (ie. If the order wasn't received by a specific date?). A private individual may not know to protect themselves in their purchase agreements, but I'm assuming as a pet store owner you would have had something in writing to protect your business?

If any of the above comes off as me being harsh, or siding with the exporter, I'm not (or at least don't intend to be). I'm just not seeing any proof of the exporter negating on their responsibilities, as you haven't shown us where there was an agreement as to what their responsibilities were. A little more documentation would go a long way.

Dear everyone, thanks for read this thread and finally, we will get the refund and planning to make order from him next month.
He was very vusy and through hard times, that's why he can't answer me right away and got the apologies from him.
Also he said he got the quotas for this year, so please contact to him if you interested in guyana animals.
Thank you!

I was in the process of trying to order some mammals from alec taylor but as the moment i sent him a copy of the import license application of which his info as sender and his transporter that he uses was needed so that the order could transpire and he did not respond and has ignored all of my messages from there on,I am lucky that no money had been exchanged and the lesson learned was to have a brokerage group handle the financial part of dealing with exporters.
