In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

From start to finish, this is NOT an acceptable transaction; not in terms of the snake's health, packaging or shipping. Period.

I sent Alex a PM to alert him to this thread when it was posted, looks like he logged on yesterday but chose not to respond.

I don't understand why the snakes were in his car but not the box? That's a pretty sad packing job, better to hold off shipping and go back to get the proper box with foam insulation which he 'forgot' than try to throw something together.

Hello, there is nothing to report. I haven't heard from Alex. He unfriended me on Facebook whenever i told him my concerns and the snakes, so i am not shocked he hasn't responded.

I am watching the snakes mouths, not much has changed, if i do not see any difference on monday, i will be going to the vet, thankfully one of the best reptile vets in the area is very close to me.

This is so sad.
He approached me a couple months ago telling me he was interested in offspring when I bred my Pucallpa Peruvian pair down the road.
He won't be getting any.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to update, not much of one. I have an appointment to see the vet on thursday (11/05/2016) to get them checked out.

I'll report back later than friday.

Hello Everybody,

went to the vet today. There was some pus abscesses on both snakes and the male has RI. The vet gave me some injections for the next 30 days.

The female's lower jaw towards the front of her mouth is inflamed somewhat and i was told to keep a close eye on that as it could become infected and/or more inflamed, but the vet was very optimistic about the treatment.

Alex Smith has posted several more animals for sale on facebook and at least one here since this original post. I sure hope people do their due diligence before purchasing any animal as well as being warned about how his animals are cared for (or the lack of).

Here is the receipt from the vet:

Shaking my head. Has enough time to dedicate to his wolfdog mixes but not enough to care for his snakes. For having such beautiful animals, you'd think he'd take care of them and keep them pristine?

Office visit 44bucks is not too bad. 133 out the door for a solid base line is well worth it.

Hope to hear Alex thoughts on this or pick up that tab...!!

Another update.

I have filed a paypal dispute. Alex/The Seller stated in the dispute that he would take the snakes back and refund my money, but I do not think that is the best situation.

1. They are still not 100% healthy and I do not feel comfortable shipping them back to him.
2. He didn't take care of them properly to begin with, so I do not feel comfortable shipping them back to his potential death care.
3. I have invested $135 to get them healthy so I would be out that.
4. It would prob cost approx $200 to ship them back properly.

Unfortunately as he has offered a complete refund if you return them, that will be all Paypal will care about, they will have little interest in the animals well being at all.
When you refuse to ship back( possibly) they will then, more than likely , just find in Alex behalf.
Pretty sure even if you point out the costs involved in shipping correctly and your out of pocket vets bills they will not be interested.
I am pretty sure the snakes are in much more capable hands now, just a real shame it had to go this way
Good luck!

I have to agree with the above. PayPal won't refund the money if a product isn't returned to the seller. None of us like calling animals products, but that's what they are from a business standpoint.

If you are going to keep the animals, the appropriate thing to do would be for Alex Smith to reimburse you for the cost of the exams and medication. Because I doubt that he would do this, your choice to keep the snakes would be the route to cost you the least money and give them the best chance.

Seems OK

For what it is worth, I received my Jungle Carpet Python from Alex this morning. He shipped yesterday, I received today at about 10am, via FedEx express. Snake came out of the box feisty and relatively unstressed (just how I like this species!). Packaging seemed to do the job, however perhaps spending $5 on a proper insulated box wouldn't hurt.

I'm completely happy with the purchase, and the snake seems really healthy. No signs of RI, mites, etc - looks just like his photos.

Anyway, Alex delivered what he promised to me.

Technosteve, maybe you got an animal that he was just flipping and wasn't in his care long enough to get sick. I dunno.

But what I do know is that PayPal sided with me and they are refunding the cost of the vet bill.

I will post more later.
