    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I thought I'd bring this here to ask others opinion and to warn others of this guys selling tactics.
For the past several months I have watched this guys ads with disgust, seems any animal that is slightly out of the ordinary he slaps on a new name or calls it a morph and claims it should be a new subspecies or something.
I was searching through the classifieds when I discovered he decided to use my line of hogs to his advantage. I own a small collection of western hogs that produce animals with a sort of Tiger Barred Pattern. Last year I decided to coin the term "Tiger Phase" to describe and name this line. Now he is currently selling a hog that is slightly aberrant and is calling it a Tiger Phase hog,I do not believe I produced this animal, this is misleading and I have had a few emails asking me what's up with his ad etc. I feel this is stealing in a way and at the very least extremely dishonest and misleading. I emailed him politely asking questions and asking him to remove the ad or phrase with no response. Do you feel I am in the right for being concerned?

His "tiger-phase" look nothing like yours. He obviously sees the potential $ windfall from using the name you coined and using it when representing what appear to be standard Western Hogs. People will associate the coined-name with your animals and believe they are getting something from the same bloodline capable of producing specimens like yours.

I feel it is pretty hard to claim exclusive rights to the "tiger phase" term when discribing any reptile. To me it is more of a discriptive term rather than a copyrighted name.

I need to agree with Kevin. That is just a term in my eyes as well. You could say that about any color phase.

I tend to disagree guys. The term "Tiger Phase" indicates, to me anyways, that the seller has some reason to believe that this patterning is more than just a one shot abberration. "Tiger Looking" or "Tiger Patterned" would be generic, I agree.

While it doesn't denote a straight genetic recessive trait, it does, at least indicate that the seller considers it to be a line trait. Once a line is recognized and ties to a specific breeder, ethically others should not use the exact same verbage to describe their own stock. This is not a copyright issue but an ethics issue.

Justin,
I wouldn't worry to much. He probably just has the one animal that looks that way. Based on his price he obviously isn't try to get rich, lol.

Ron, you probably caught it anyway, but you signature disappeared.

Wouldn't want anyone confusing you with another with a similar ID. :)

Dennis,
That's strange, I even checked the box that says "Show your signature". Thanks for the heads up.

My opinion

The term Tiger seems to be a generic term to describe some animal with stripes. It is similar to the term Granite in Balls. Simply a descriptive term. If you want to name your line, I would suggest you coin a name using the term Tiger, such as Tiger Hog, Red Tiger, Bengal Tiger, Rear fanged and mildly venomous Tiger, Your name here Tiger....ETC

Thanks for the opinions, I do see what some of you are getting at but I feel a little differently on the subject, I guess I am a little bias. I heard back from the guy and he appologized and is pulling the ad.

for future reference

aside from taking a photo of the animal in quesstion. Write down whatever name you intend to use to describe the animal, and place it in an envelope and mail it to yourself , certified. Make sure the person at the counter stamps the envelope with their stamp to indicate the actual date of acceptance. When you receive it back, dont open it, but keep it in a safe place. This will copyprotect what you have written and photographed.

Basically,anyone claiming to have title to your description, would have to provide some legal proof earlier than the stamp from the post office. We both know that is not going to happen! That is copyright infringement ! Jerry

Mistakes ????

I have dealt w/both Justin and J.T. (Alien Reptiles) and have the highest regard for both . I am quite sure that J.T. was not attempting to "cash" in on your morph----he probably knew of no other way to describe his specimens....I know he is very honest and likewise, you and I have several dealings ----all excellent----remember this," the only people who never make mistakes are those who sit on their butts and do nothing" !!!! I sincerely hope both of you can remedy the situation as I consider both of you to be honest beyond reproach----Earl H. Turner Ph.D.
